Reflections On Devon
by Elizabeth Heckert
Copyright 1996 by Elizabeth Heckert

With True asleep beside him
And Uly in his bed
A realization struck John
Devon Adair was dead.

No more yelling, no more fights
With Devon's stubborness
*I can live without her* he thought,
*I think, I hope, I guess*.

*I can't lead this group!
What, was Devon nuts?*
Then he thought,
*I haven't got the guts!*

Which was absolutely untrue
That he knew for sure
But how did Devon deal
With these people and these chores?

*She must be incredible*
Danziger thought in awe
*I never knew how hard it was*
The truth he finally saw.
So she's rich, but not stuck-up
Or even a stubborn fool
In fact his good old psycho woman
Was looking kinda cool.

*God, I wish she wasn't dead
No, not dead just locked away forever*
He'd have loved her long ago
Had he known he'd never hold her, ever.

He remembered "their place" on the hill
At the winter camp
Of how their relationship, barely formed
Was like Lady and the Tramp.

She the Lady, I the Tramp
He though amusedly
I wish I had the chance to tell her
That to my heart she held the key.

And as these thoughts ran through his head
Of Devon's sad demise
The sun of G889
Had found some time to rise
