Where had she gone wrong? Yesterday they were fine. She had never felt more in love. And she knew that he loved her back. So what had happened? Had he just woken up this morning and decided that he didn't love her? Why couldn't he be with her anymore? Ginny's thoughts went back to a few hours ago. Harry had asked to meet her by the lake so that he could tell her something. She had practically skipped there, such was the good mood she was in. There were lots of others around, enjoying their free time. When she got there, Harry ( who was gazing out on the lake, deep in thought) didn't even notice her until she kissed him softly on the lips. "Hey, " said Harry waking out of his funk, "I need to talk to you about something." He held her hand and walked her over to a spot which was fairly deserted. "First things first. I need to do this." He pushed Ginny's fiery red hair behind her ear, and cupped her face in his hands. He brought her face closer and closer until finally their lips touched. Harry wrapped his arms around Ginny, deepening the kiss. Then, he broke away suddenly. "Harry, what's wrong?" Ginny asked, concerned. "I'm breaking up with you." He turned towards the lake. Ginny sat down with a bump. That was not what she had expected. "What?" she asked in disbelief. "I'm breaking up with you." He said defiantly. "It's just not working out." "But I ….." Ginny looked at him hopelessly. "I'll see you later. I've got to go. " He turned back towards the castle and started walking away. "Harry! Wait!" She ran after him and caught him by the shoulder, forcing him to turn round. "But I don't understand. I thought you loved me." Harry's face wavered. "Well, I….uh… I don't." "Tell me." "What?" Ginny stood in front of Harry with tears forming in her eyes. They hadn't fallen yet. "Tell me you don't love me!" Harry looked out at the lake, and closed his eyes. He opened them and the same defiant look that she had fallen in love with, was back on his face. "I don't love you!" Ginny gasped and the tears fell. She turned and ran up to the castle not bothering to stop whenever anyone asked her what was wrong. She didn't stop running until she was safely in the common room and in her favourite chair. The tears just kept falling and falling though. They would be there for a long time. Chapter 2 Harry sat by the lake, thinking what he had just done. Oh god! He thought I just made Ginny cry. I made the one person I care about more than anyone else, cry! He hit himself round the head. He looked out at the lake again and thought some more. It's for the best. This way she won't get hurt. I don't want her to get hurt. She's safer this way. It's the hardest thing I'll ever have to do To look you in the eye, and tell you I don't love you It's the hardest thing I'll ever have to lie To show no emotion when you start to cry I can't let you see what you mean to me When my hands are tied and my heart's not free, We're not meant to be It's the hardest thing I'll ever have to do To turn around and walk away, pretending I don't love you….. Harry wrung his hands, trying to convince himself that he had made the right decision. Ron's words came back to him. If you hurt her, I swear I'll hurt you back ten times more. Well Harry wasn't sure if he had stopped her getting hurt. Her face when he lied to her, Harry knew that he had hurt her then. He didn't mean any of it of course. He loved her. He loved her with all his heart. Which was why he had broken up with her. Because everyone that he had ever loved had been taken away from him. If he hadn't had that dream, then he might not have done it. But the dream was so terrible that he had to make sure it never happened. Harry was in a black mist. He couldn't see anything. He could just hear Ginny calling out to him. He ran towards where the voice seemed to be coming from, when suddenly he heard a scream. Ginny! He thought he raced towards the sound but when he got there all he saw was Voldemort! Then he noticed, lying at Voldemort's feet….. "Ginny!" He rushed to her and laid his hand on her cheek. "She's dead, Harry. Dead!" said Voldemort. Then, as Harry knelt there, stroking Ginny's lifeless face, Voldemort started to laugh. And he laughed and laughed……. That's when Harry woke up. He shuddered, as he sat there next to the lake, remembering the dream. "Yes" He thought "Ginny is safer this way. I can't let the dream happen. And if we're not a couple, then Voldemort wouldn't be able to hurt her." Harry stood up and brushing the tears from his eyes walked solemnly back to the castle. Professor Dumbledore sat in his office thinking. There were not many things that happened at Hogwarts that he didn't know about, and the romance between Harry and Ginny was certainly not a secret to him. There were very few romances at Hogwarts that lasted, but Dumbledore would bet his wand arm that they stayed together. He was, of course, very upset when he saw the scene by the lake. Something very unusual had happened though. Not that life at Hogwarts was ever normal. A lot of the kids seemed to be taking after the Weasley twins so you never knew what to expect (Dumbledore couldn't wait till the end of the year - that was when the best trick happened). But what had occurred by the lake was unusual even by Hogwarts standards. Dumbledore was sure that he had seen a ball of white light pass from Harry to Ginny, during their kiss. How and why, he couldn't tell, but he knew that with all things magical, it would reveal itself eventually. "Magic is a very mysterious thing." He murmured to himself quietly. Chapter 3 Ginny lay in her bed, looking at a picture of her and Harry, with tears still falling from her eyes. So far she had avoided most of her friends but with some it was impossible. Her four roommates were trying to console her but they couldn't figure out what was wrong. "Come on Ginny. Just tell us what's wrong." said her friend Rachel in a calm soothing voice, "We can only help you if you tell us what's the matter." "Go get Hermione. " whispered another of Ginny's friends, Daphne. They all knew that Ginny and Hermione were very close, almost like sisters, and if Ginny was going to tell anyone it would be her. One of the girls left the room and returned a few minutes later, with Hermione just behind her. At the sight of Ginny, with tears in her eyes, she rushed over, and wrapped her in a sisterly hug. "Oh Gin, what's that idiot done now?" she asked. Ginny burst into a new wave of tears and Hermione looked at Rachel and Daphne, bewildered. "We'll be downstairs." Rachel said edging out of the room. "Good luck." Daphne added as she and the other two girls left the room too. Hermione looked back at Ginny who was gazing at the photo longingly. "So are you gonna tell me what happened?" she asked, getting into a comfortable position. Ginny nodded her head. They were going to be there for a while. Harry looked up from his book to see Hermione come down from the girl's dormitory. She did not look happy. She sat down next to Ron and looked at Harry hard. He avoided her gaze and returned to read about famous quidditch victories. Ron greeted her with a kiss then turned back to do the homework he was working on. There was a tense pause. Hermione interrupted the silence. "Why, Harry, that's all I want to know. Why?" "Why what?" he replied stonily. "You know what. Why did you do it?" "What are you two talking about?" asked Ron. "I'm not going to tell you why." sulked Harry, ignoring his best friend. "Why not?" Hermione glared at him. "It's none of your business." "Huh? What's none of her business?" Ron said, getting annoyed. "Nothing." Harry said hastily. He hurried up to his room before Hermione could interrogate him any more. Safely on his bed, with the curtains closed, he breathed a sigh of relief. He reached a hand under his pillow and pulled out a picture of Ginny. The picture blew a kiss at him and blushed. Harry sighed again. "It's for the best!" he repeated, trying to reassure himself. He flopped down and his face fell in his pillow. "For the best!" Chapter 4 "Harry? Are you awake?" Ron asked as he entered the room. "Yeah." Came the unhappy reply. Ron walked over and lay down on his bed. He took a couple of deep breaths and stared at the hangings. "You know, I'm having great difficulty trying to stop myself from hitting you." Ron commented. "Hermione told you then?" "No, actually. Lavender did. Hermione stalked off to the girl's dorm just after you. Probably to comfort Ginny some more!" Ron spat out the words and Harry winced in his private hovel. "How did Lavender find out?" he asked. "I dunno. What I do want to know is why you broke up with her. I mean, you two never argued, never fought. So why? Or were you just playing with her, leading her on?" "Ron! C'mon! You know I would never do that!" Harry said angrily. "Then why? You must have a reason, so tell me before I end up hitting you." "You'll hit me anyway." Harry murmured. "What?" Ron asked, "Nothing!" Harry interrupted "Anyway, I don't really want to talk about it." "Fine!" Ron sulked "You know, maybe you didn't love her, but I thought that you at least cared about her enough to not ruin her life!" "Ruin her life? Not love her? Ron, those are about as far from the truth as possible!" Harry yelled as he threw back the curtains. "I love that girl more than Quidditch, magic, and my firebolt put together. There's only one thing I want more than her, and that's to see my parents again. I love your little sister more than anything!" "Then why break up with her? Why cause her so much pain?" The two best friends eyed each other, cautiously. They were both red in the face, and Harry's eyes were all blotchy due to him crying. Harry took a deep breath and tried calmly to explain to his friend, his actions. "Because if you haven't noticed, I seem to have a certain enemy that takes away everything I love and care for. My parents were killed before I can remember, my godfather is a fugitive because of him, and the whole of my world, my friends and everyone I know is afraid of him. I don't want Ginny to get hurt because of me. She's the best-looking girl in the entire school. She's bound to find someone else. And although it will hurt me like hell, I'd prefer it to be like that rather than to live with the knowledge that the girl I loved had died because of me." Harry looked at Ron defiantly. "So you see, Ron, I'm not leading her on. I'm trying to protect her. It's for the best!" Ron looked at his friend with a burst of pride. "And I thought that I was being an over-protective brother. Talk about over-protective boyfriend!" "I was just doing what's best." Harry conceded, feeling empty at his sudden confession. "You of all people should understand it." "I didn't at first. Thanks mate!" Ron slapped his pal on the back. "For what?" "Helping me to understand. Now the only problem is how we tell Hermione." "We don't." Ron looked at Harry in shock. "If we tell her she'll only go and tell Ginny. If Ginny knows, it might put her in even more danger. And I won't let anything happen to her." Harry hit his fist against his bedside cabinet. "Fine." Said Ron adamantly "I won't tell Hermione anything." Chapter 5 The next few weeks were particularly hard for everyone. Hermione wasn't talking to either Ron or Harry, as neither one would tell her Harry's reasons for the break-up. Ginny was very subdued and was often found in her room. Both Harry and Ron felt guilty, Harry for causing the problem in the first place, and Ron, because he had to decide whether to side with his best friend , or side with his sister and his girlfriend. The rest of the Gryffindor house was feeling just as tense. For the seventh years, the NEWT's were just weeks away. Hermione was always found in the library. Also the was the up coming game between Slytherin and Gryffindor. Whoever won this match, won the cup. It was making a lot of the younger players nervous. However it did keep Harry's mind off things as he was the captain and in charge of organising practices. One evening Harry was having trouble sleeping. He just kept having the same dream again and again. Every time he closed his eyes to try and get back to sleep, he saw the image of Ginny, lying there in front of him, lifeless. His eyes would open immediately, and it would take him another five minutes just to convince himself to try again. After one final attempt to get to sleep, Harry threw himself out of bed and stumbled downstairs to the common room. He directed himself to a chair near to the fire but before he sat down, he realised someone else was already occupying the seat. "Ginny?" Ginny lifted her head to see Harry gazing at her. "What are you doing down here?" She blushed, then shrugged her shoulders. "I couldn't sleep. Too many things on my mind. It's happened a lot recently. What about you?" "Bad dream. Thought I'd come down here and do a bit of revision." "Where are they?" Ginny asked. "Where's what?" "Your books?" She looked down at his empty hands and smiled a small smile. She pushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear and the fire lit up her brown eyes. Harry noticed they looked sad and distant compared to the way they usually looked. That's because of me. Harry thought. "Umm, I left them upstairs." He grinned feebly at Ginny. She laughed quietly. "Only you would forget something like that!" she mocked. "Hey! You just laughed! You haven't laughed for a week! Finally! It seems so quiet around here without you smiling and laughing." Harry sat down opposite her and grinned. Ginny looked down at her feet. "Yeah. You have that effect on me." Immediately, Harry felt guilty. Ginny looked up and blushed. "So….. what was your dream about? We've just started studying them in divination and it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. We're even allowed to fall asleep in class!" "Well it wasn't really a dream. It's more like something that might happen." "So it's a vision?" Ginny asked, pleased to be able to talk with Harry again. He seemed to be avoiding her recently and she missed him dearly. It wasn't just the relationship she missed, it was the friendship too. She missed the way they talked about utter nonsense, and sat and did homework together. She missed everything about him. And she knew he missed her too. She knew like the way that you know about a good melon. "Well, no. I mean, I hope not. It's not very pleasant." He shuddered involuntarily. Ginny looked at him, wondering. "Well, what happened? Maybe if you tell me enough I can analyse it." "Are you sure?" Ginny nodded her head. "OK, Voldemort was there, and so was….." He paused, unsure as to whether he should tell her that she was there. "Go on." Ginny pressed. "You. You were there." Ginny looked a little startled then gestured for Harry to continue. "You were lying on the floor, and Voldemort was standing above you laughing. I couldn't get to you and then ….." "Then what Harry? What happened?" "You died." The effect took a while to hit Ginny. She gasped. Then she looked at Harry in horror. "Harry, how long have you been having these dreams? Why didn't you tell anyone?" She moved forward in her chair and bit her lip. This made Harry uneasy. Ginny only bit her lip when she was really worried or upset. "About a month. I didn't want to worry anyone. Anyway, they might think I was crazy. Dreaming about Voldemort, and you getting hurt. They'd think I was sick, or twisted." He sent Ginny an apologetic smile but she didn't see it. She was too busy, thinking. "Harry, is that why you broke up with me? Because you thought I was going to get hurt? Is that the reason?" "No!" Harry exclaimed. Ginny sent him a look that clearly said do not lie to me. "Yes," he sighed "but Ginny, you understand my reasons, don't you?" "Oh Harry!" She walked over to him and gave him a tight hug. "You don't need to protect me. I'm a big girl. I can look after myself." She gave him a long kiss and snuggled herself in his arms. "I've missed you so much." "Ginny, we not getting back together!" Harry stated. "I've missed you too but we're not a couple again." "What? Why not?" "Because I don't want you getting hurt. I'm not putting you in danger." Ginny stood up and put her hands on her hips. Her red hair seemed on fire and she had a defiant look in her eyes. "But I've been in danger before. I've met Voldemort and survived. And anyway, you hurt me more when you broke up with me, than all the curses Voldemort can use put together." "Ginny, you don't understand. He killed my parents, made my godfather become a fugitive for godsake! He takes everything I love away from me!" "And you are doing the exact same thing! By pushing me away, you're leaving yourself vulnerable. You can't defeat him on your own, Harry. You need your friends around you. We all want to help, but you won't let us. You're throwing away your only weapon." "Oh, and what's that?" Harry said. "Love, Harry! Love! Dumbledore himself said it. If there's one thing Voldemort doesn't understand, it's love. That's the best weapon we have." "I'm not letting you get hurt." Harry sulked stubbornly. "Fine, Harry. Push me away. Push everyone away. We'll still love you. You can't stop loving someone. I know! I've tried!" She turned around and started towards the stairs. "Ginny, wait!" She turned around and saw Harry looking back at her, sadly. "I'm sorry!" "Me too, Harry!" She turned back and walked up the stairs. She turned out of view, and burst in to tears. "Me too." I know that we'll meet again Fate has a place and time So you can get on with your life I've got to be cruel to be kind Like Dr Zhivago All my love I'll be sending But you will never know Cos there can be no happy ending In the common room Harry was sitting looking at the fire. Slowly he wiped the tears from his eyes and walked up his stairs, back to bed. Chapter 6 When Harry woke up the next morning, he realised two things. The first was that he had hurt Ginny yet again. Why he had disclosed the information about the dream to her he didn't know, but now he had to worry about what Ginny might try and do. He knew that she would try and prove to Harry that she didn't need to be protected. He was afraid that she might get herself hurt by doing something stupid. Harry felt lost and at a dead end. Either way, Ginny would get hurt, and it would be all his fault. The second thing that he realised was that the quidditch match he had been worrying about for the past two weeks was today. He was going to be playing Quidditch on almost zero sleep. Augh! Harry rolled over and buried his face in his pillow. "Harry! Harry! Get up you great lump!" Ron yelled, throwing one of Harry's trainers in a gap between the curtains. It hit Harry in the face. He sat up immediately. "C'mon! The Quidditch match is today. The team's getting worried. The younger ones are starting to think that Malfoy's abducted you." Harry pulled the curtains back and wiped the sleep from his eyes. " Like he'd manage it." He snorted. "Okay, I'm up. Can you go tell them that I'm alive and I'll be down in a minute. Oh, and can you check that they've all had breakfast?" "Sure, but you'd better hurry and get ready. There's a bit of toast on my bed" Ron called as he went downstairs to do what Harry asked. Harry looked around the room. He felt awful. He put on his robes and went to wash his face. When he came back, he grabbed the slice of toast on Ron's bed as he put on his shoes. His eyes fell on a bunch of red roses, that were also lying on Ron's bed. A small box was wrapped up next to them. "Hey," Harry said to Ron as he walked in, "What are those for?" "Well, it's kind of mine and Hermione's 6 month anniversary today, so I thought that I should give her a present. You know, to get her talking to me again. Hopefully giving her this, might distract her enough, so I won't have to mention anything about Ginny." "She probably already knows." Harry commented glumly, as he took his firebolt out of his trunk. "I told Ginny last night." "What?! How did that happen? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Ron asked. "I went down into the common room last night, because I couldn't sleep, and she was down there too. We started talking, and somehow I told her everything. So now she's going to be putting herself in danger, just to prove to me that she doesn't need protecting." Harry slammed the lid of his trunk shut and started walking down to the common room. Ron grabbed the presents and followed him, still asking questions. "Why did you tell her? Couldn't you just avoid the subject?" "What? With Ginny? Come on Ron, she's always been able to twist me around her little finger. And you know how she always gets straight to the point, as quickly as possible. Avoiding a subject with her, is like avoiding Malfoy. He just keeps coming back." "True…. So that means I don't have to keep it a secret anymore? And Hermione won't have to ignore me anymore?" He looked at Harry, grinning. "No, Hermione doesn't have any excuse to ignore you." Harry gave a feeble grin to his friend as he walked into the common room. He felt extremely guilty. If today was Hermione and Ron's anniversary, then it meant that it was also his and Ginny's. He could remember when in his sixth year, he and Ginny arrived back at the castle after their first date, to tell Ron and Hermione that they were a couple, only to find that Ron and Hermione (after years of bickering) were now a couple too. His eyes glanced across the room and he saw, to his disappointment, Hermione dragging Ginny over to where they were standing. He started to move away, when Ron grabbed his arm and held him to his spot. The two girls landed in front of him, Ginny looking as anxious to get away as he did. "Harry, Ginny's told me everything, and I forgive you for being such a prat. You were just doing what you thought was right, even if it was completely wrong. You, however," Hermione pointed at Ron "have no excuse." "Umm, Harry asked me not to tell anyone, so I didn't. He is my best friend, after all." He looked guiltily down at the floor. "And I'm your girlfriend! I think you'll have to do a lot of grovelling till you're back in my good books." She looked at him snootily. "I thought I would, so……" Ron revealed the flowers and box from behind his back, and said cheerily "Happy 6 month anniversary!" Hermione gasped. She took the flowers and box, and looked at them, astounded. She looked back at Ron. "Oh Ron, they're beautiful. And you remembered!" She flung her arms around Ron's neck and gave him a kiss. "Does this mean I'm forgiven?" He asked sheepishly. "Yes, you are forgiven." Hermione grinned at him. He smirked at her. "Then can you take the roses away from my back. They have thorns in." Hermione hit him with the roses and turned to show Ginny. "They're beautiful." said Ginny softly, "I wish I had some." She looked meanfully at Harry, but he looked away. "Umm, I should go check on the team. I'll see you guys after the match." He said, trying to get away. "Okay, good luck with the match." Hermione called as her and Ron went to find a corner to make up properly. Ginny's gaze followed Harry across the room until he sat down behind a chair to talk to Colin Creevey, the goal keeper. "Don't worry, Gin," said Rachel, coming up behind her, "He'll see sense soon. He's just a typical bloke. An idiot." "Yeah," Ginny agreed "but he was my idiot." Chapter 7 Harry strode on to the Quidditch pitch to be greeted by cheers from ¾ of the stadium. His eyes glanced across the crowd and he saw sitting near the top, Ron, Hermione and Neville. Ginny and two of her friends were sitting in the row in front of them. He turned his attention back to the pitch. Standing in front of him was Draco Malfoy. Harry sent him a look of hatred. Malfoy returned the gesture. Madam Hooch ordered them to shake hands. "So, Potter ready to be flattened?" Malfoy sneered in a drawl. "Not if you are planning on a repeat performance after last time." Harry replied. He could hear his team-mates sniggering behind him. Last time the two teams had met, Gryffindor had flattened Sytherin by scoring 70 points in the first 15 minutes, and then Harry catching the snitch, after it had been hovering behind Malfoy. It was the best victory Harry could remember. "Very funny," said Malfoy, squeezing Harry's hand tight, "How's your girlfriend? Oh I forgot, you've had enough of weasels, haven't you?" Harry tightened his grip and Malfoy winced. "Get stuffed, Malfoy!" He said as he released his grip. Madam Hooch seemed oblivious to the conversation that had just past before her. "Players, mount your brooms!" she called. The whistle blew and they were off. Soon Gryffindor were in the lead 150 points to 60. Harry tried hard to focus on the game and find the snitch, but he could sense something was wrong. He had just turned his broomstick round towards the forest when he saw something glittering. But it wasn't gold. It was a ball of red light and it was coming his way. As it came nearer, it got bigger. Below him the game stopped, all the players turning to stare at the light. As it got closer and closer, Harry felt his scar begin to burn. He looked towards the light and knew what it was. Voldemort! Chapter 8 Ginny sat in the stands watching the ball of red light coming towards the pitch. Somehow she knew that whatever that ball was, wasn't good. She looked towards Harry and saw him clap his hand over his forehead. No, his scar! If Harry's scar was hurting that could only mean one thing. Voldemort! Oh no, Harry! Voldemort was going to get him. Harry would try to battle with him! Ginny stood up and started running down the stands towards were all the players were landing. She had to help him. Harry was going to get himself killed. There was no way that he could take on Voldemort all by himself. She rushed out into the field, to where Madam Hooch was ordering all the players to gather. Ginny looked around the huddle of people in a mixture of red and green robes, but nowhere could she see a head of messy black hair. She turned to scan the area behind her, and then saw standing in the middle of the pitch, Harry. Ginny ran towards him. She was within 50 metres of him when she heard a huge voice echo around the stadium. "Cassei Surroundus!" Suddenly, a wall of energy shot up behind her. She jumped. "There!" bellowed the voice "Now I can't be interrupted." Ginny looked out to the other side of the wall, and saw Dumbledore reach for his wand. "On the other hand, I'd better be sure" the voice contemplated "Petrificus Totalus!" In an instant, everyone in the stadium was wrapped tight in a full body bind. Inside the wall of energy though, Ginny and Harry were unaffected. "Ginny!" Harry had just noticed that she was standing next to him. "What are you doing here? You have to get away! Voldemort's coming." "Harry, I'm not leaving you. I'm going to help you!" "No, Ginny, you have to go. Before he gets you. " He pushed her towards the wall, but she resisted. "Harry, I'm staying." As she spoke those words, a storm began to form inside the prison of energy. Ginny knew that Voldemort was going to come to them, but in the corner of her mind she still thought it was impossible that he could be back. However, she thought, this is the same part of my brain that told me Harry wasn't interested in me when we first started going out. Harry looked at her face of determination and realised that there was nothing he could do to move her to safety. She was going to stay there whether Harry wanted her to or not. "Why are you doing this to me?" He asked her softly, looking into her big brown eyes. "Because I love you." she replied. "Aww! How touching. You love each other. Pity you're going to die!" laughed Voldemort. He emerged from the storm, tall and scaly. Harry pulled Ginny towards him. "Ginny, stay behind me." He ordered. If she was going to stay, she was at least going to be protected. "My, this sounds familiar. Your father said the same thing to your mother the night they died!" Voldemort commented, "I think I'll change a few things this time. Don't want to seem unoriginal. I'll kill the girl first." He waved his wand and Ginny was lifted to his side. Harry reached for his wand, but found it wasn't there. He looked up and saw Voldemort twiddling it in his fingers. "Sorry, Harry but last time our wands battled, mine came off rather badly. I'm afraid I can't let you have this back." Voldemort reached out and grabbed Ginny by the arm. He looked her up and down, almost questionably. "I must say Harry, she really is a beauty. And she's feisty too. Are you not afraid of me, girl?" Ginny looked at him and laughed. "No, I'm not. Because I know you're not really called Lord Voldemort. You're Tom Riddle. And you're half muggle! You're the one thing you hate most." "You dare call me by the name of my worthless Father! Hah! I'll make you pay! I think I will have some fun before killing you. And it would be nice if Harry was forced to watch." Voldemort waved his wand towards Harry and he went rigid. Voldemort turned his attention back to Ginny "There! Now for you! Crucio!" Ginny curled with pain. Harry strained to get to her but Voldemort's spell was too powerful. Seeing Harry's struggle, Voldemort increased the amount of pain to Ginny. Eventually, Ginny collapsed on the floor, pain aching from every cell in her body. Voldemort released Harry from his hold and Harry rushed to Ginny's side. He stroked her face and kissed her forehead. "Ginny?" He whispered "Can you hear me? Speak to me, Ginny?" "Oh dear, Harry. She appears to be dead. I'm terribly sorry. I forgot to tell you that the amount of pain she just received was enough to kill someone. My. You are unlucky. That's the third person to die because they love you." The taunt about his parents rang loud in his ears, but he was too concerned about Ginny to do anything. Harry sat there, stroking Ginny's face while Voldemort stood above him laughing. The one thing he could think of, was the dream and how it was coming true. He had failed in protecting her. He had failed. Ginny's eyes opened, and she pushed herself up. Harry smiled, despite the circumstances. Ginny smiled back, and then started to cough. "How can she be alive? She should be dead!" screamed Voldemort in a fury. "No matter, she die soon enough. I'll kill the boy first instead." He raised his wand up high and Harry was lifted from his girlfriend's side. Then without warning, he was dropped. Voldemort gasped for air. "He must have worn himself out!" Harry mused, out loud. "Worn out or not, I can still kill you!" he yelled, lifting his wand high. The next bit seemed to happen in slow motion for Ginny. She saw Voldemort raise his wand, and she knew that he wouldn't hesitate to use the killing curse. Gathering together all her strength, she stood up and jumped in front of Harry, just as Voldemort bellowed "Avada Kedarva!" There was a burst of green light and then…. Ginny fell limp in front of Harry. Her last sight was of someone she loved. Harry gasped and dropped to his knees, cradling Ginny in his arms. A single tear fell out of his eyes. It landed on Ginny's cheek and trickled down to the ground. Chapter 9 Then, a white light burst from Ginny's body. Harry moved back in surprise. Ginny's body was levitated into the air, and after another burst of white light, she was transformed from her ordinary school robes to a long white gown, encrusted with diamonds. It had golden straps, that seemed to be made of light itself, and above her head, hung an oval of golden light. She looked like….. "…..An angel!" Harry said, "She looks like an angel!" "Even angels have to die sooner or later!" laughed Voldemort. He was trying to appear unafraid, but Harry could see that he was shaking. Then Ginny spoke. "Tom Riddle, you have caused pain and suffering to thousands and now their souls have demanded revenge. You have killed babies who have yet to live a full life, and you have killed elders who have little life left in them to fight!" Her voice floated to everyone in the stadium, and although she was almost whispering, everyone heard her as if they were standing right next to her. To everyone else, it was a calm serene voice, but to Voldemort it was the harshest voice he had ever heard. "And you have tried many times to destroy the most precious and vital thing this world has ever known. Love. Without love the world would stop turning. For wizards, they would be unable to use magic, and for those you call muggles, everything they base as scientific, would cease to exist. "And for this boy," Ginny gestured at Harry, "Not only have you killed his parents, both who died out of love for him, but you are trying to kill the one thing he loves most." "Many demand revenge. But revenge is a cruel, cowardly way. What is needed is justice! In the name of Love, and all the poor souls, whose life you have wrecked, ASHA VAHISHTA!" Ginny raised her hands above her head, and a dazzling ball of white light gathered in her hands. Then she directed her hands at Voldemort, and the white light shot him right in the heart. There was a loud scream and then silence. All that was left of Voldemort was his robes and his wand. The same wand that had killed Harry's parents. Harry walked over and picked it up. He looked towards the angelic image of his girlfriend, and he swore that he saw her wink at him. He gathered courage, and then with one last look at Ginny, he snapped the wand. There was a rush of wind, and then, everyone in the stadium was free of the spells that had been cast. The wall of energy that was surrounding Ginny and Harry fell, but Harry was too busy looking at what was happening around him to notice. Ghosts were whizzing past him up towards the skies, very quickly. Harry recognised some from Harry's fourth year, when the images had allowed him time to escape. They were the ghosts of all the people Voldemort had mercilessly murdered. He looked at the hundreds of images as they passed him. Then he saw the image he wanted to see most. His father. James Potter floated towards the heavens then stopped and turned towards Ginny. He offered a hand towards her, and the image of Harry's mum, Lily Potter, stepped out of her. Lily bent her head towards Ginny and whispered something into her ear. Ginny nodded. Then the spirits of Harry's parents left the earth for good. Harry and Ginny both gazed up at the sky until the images were out of sight. Chapter 10 There was hardly time to breathe before all the magic that was surrounding Ginny began to seep out. As the crowds rushes forward to congratulate the two, Harry had to rush to his girlfriend before she hit the ground. Luckily he had his broom with him. He caught her in mid air, and then gently glided his firebolt to the ground. A small circle gathered around the two, but Harry was oblivious to this. Ron and Hermione pushed themselves through the crowd to see Harry cradling Ginny in his arms. Her skin was pale and her hair seemed to look almost grey. Ron's first thought was that she was dead. Her eyes were very much alive though. They still regained some of Lily Potter's green eyes, and the intensity of the battle that had just past was still wild in her eyes. "Ginny!" Harry said lovingly. She started to reply but then collapsed, unconscious. Within minutes she was being rushed to the hospital wing on a stretcher. At first, Madam Pomfrey was insistent that Ginny must not be accompanied by anyone except herself, but when it became obvious that Harry was not going to leave her side for one second, she gave in and let him walk with her to the hospital wing. Harry stayed at Ginny's side for over a week, although his injuries were treated within a day. He left only to sleep, and eat, but he was always back within an hour. She was showing little signs of recovery but Harry insisted to anyone that asked that she would be fine by the time term finished. Soon there were only three weeks left before the end of term. Ron and Ginny's parents were there to see how Ginny was getting on. Harry's NEWTs (which Hermione had forced him to attend) had just finished, and he, Ron and Hermione rushed to the hospital wing straight after. When they arrived they saw Molly and Arthur Weasley coming out with Professor Dumbledore, looking very downcast. "There's been no signs of recovery." Said Dumbledore apologetically. "You've done your best, Professor," comforted Ron's dad, "We appreciate all that you and Poppy have done for us." His wife stayed quiet. "What's happening?" Ron asked rushing up to his parents. "We've decided that since Ginny isn't getting any better, we're going to…." "No!" Harry interrupted before Arthur could finish his sentence. "She is going to get better! I know she is." He burst in to the hospital wing before anyone could stop him, and rushed to his beloved's bed. The others started to follow, but Dumbledore motioned for them to stop. "Let him have a few minutes alone. He has been through a lot." Harry didn't hear the rest because he was concentrating on Ginny. He stroked her hair from her face, and tears fell from his eyes. He held her hand in his, and let all the emotions he had experienced over the past few weeks flow out. "Ginny, please wake up. I need you to wake up." He sobbed "I know that you're going to get better, you have to. I need you Ginny. Those weeks we spent apart were the worst weeks of my life. If I could go back, and change it, I would. I only did it to try and stop this happening. It's all my fault. I was only trying to protect you. You would probably try and tell me that it's not my fault, but it is. Oh Ginny, I can't live my life without you. And now they're thinking of… of… Ginny you have to get better. Otherwise, life just isn't worth living." He stared at her peaceful face and a huge grief came over him. He sat there for a while just gazing at her. Then he could face it no longer. He bent over and gave her a final kiss on the lips. "I love you Ginny!" He turned to leave but for the second time in a number of weeks, a burst of white light burst from her heart. Ginny's parent's rushed in, closely followed by Ron Hermione and Professor Dumbledore. They all stared, amazed at what was happening before them. The white light enveloped all of them, and for a brief moment, they saw what the white light was. His face was like a flame, yet they could see it clearly, every feature defined. His dress was whiter than the purest snow, and his wings were of gold. Each feather was a mixture of colours , which all together, shone as bright as the sun. He also had golden hair, flowing all around him, and he was carrying a harp, from which, he played the sweetest music any had ever heard. Everyone in the room immediately felt calm, and serene. It was as if the angel (for that's what the light was) had taken all worries away from them. Harry experienced him for the longest. Just before the light faded, and the angel left, he whispered in Harry's ear softly. "Harry, this girl has sacrificed herself out of love for you. And because your parents also did, the Powers That Be have decided that you should have this girl delivered back to you. "It was your parents dying wish, for you to find someone you love, and live a full life with them. You have shown that this girl is your one true love. She shall be restored to how she was before Samuel entangled himself in human affairs. Zadkiel and Raphael have restored things to how they should be, although only this child will be returned. The Powers That Be have been balanced. I can return to my position." The angel started to fade, but Harry called him back. "Wait, I want to thank you, but I don't know your name." "All you need to know," the angel replied, smiling, "is Sandalphon." And with that he faded into nothingness. Harry barely had time to dwell on this before he noticed a change in Ginny. Her skin was returning to it's normal colour, and her eyelids were flicking. Then to everyone in the room's joy and amazement, Ginny's eyes opened. They gazed across the room, first Harry, then the others, and back to Harry again. She smiled weakly and said: "Am I in heaven?" Molly Weasley ran to her daughter, tears streaming down her face. Arthur followed and they both wrapped their only daughter in a hug. They were soon joined by Hermione and Ron, and finally Harry. Ginny allowed her family and friends a chance to confirm that she was alive, but then she started complaining about needing air. Her companions backed away sheepishly. "So…..what happened?" she asked sweetly. Chapter 11 It was the last weekend before term ended, before Ginny was finally allowed out of the hospital wing. Although health-wise Ginny was fine from the day she awoke, Madam Pomfrey insisted she be kept in, just in case. She had managed to pass all her exams by requesting that the teachers test her in the hospital wing. Unfortunately Snape's could not take place in the hospital wing, but he had said that as soon as she was allowed out, she was to report to his room. And much to his dismay, she passed with flying colours (this might have something to do with the fact that Harry and Hermione had helped her to study, during her period in the hospital wing). Soon she was relaxing by the side of the lake with Harry. They seemed to have settled their problems automatically, and quickly returned to the way their relationship was. They didn't need to talk about it because they each knew that the other understood. They could instead enjoy each other's company, and just be two young people in love. Even better, Harry was going to spend a few more days with Ginny. He was going to stay at the Weasley's house for a week, while Sirius got ready for Harry to move in. Sirius knew that Harry wouldn't stay there often, especially as Ron and Harry had talked about buying a flat together, but he still wanted Harry to have somewhere he could call home. "Harry," Ginny asked as she lay in his arms. "What are you going to do when you leave school? It's only a few days away. You have thought about it, haven't you?" "Of course, but it kind of depends on you." He replied. "What do you mean?" she sat up and looked at him questioningly. "Well I was thinking of being an auror. I've had offers to play quidditch but my dad was an auror, and with all the experience with Voldemort I think I might be pretty good. Thing is, what do you think about it?" "Do what ever you want to do, Harry. It's your life." Ginny smiled at him, warmly. "But I don't want it to be my life. I want it to be our life. I mean, if my wife doesn't want me to be an auror then life might get a bit difficult." "Your wife? Harry, you're not proposing are you? Because I think I might be a bit too young to marry. And anyway, I'm still in school, and I will be for another year." "I know. It's going to be the hardest year of my life." Harry complained. "Don't worry, I wasn't proposing. I will do someday, but right now I think I'm too young to get married. It's just planning ahead. And I do want to spend the rest of my life with you Gin, so I want to make sure that you'll be okay with it." "Of course I am, Harry. And I want you to know that I want a job too. When I leave school and we get married, I'm not going to sit at home like some dull housewife. I plan on having a career." "I never thought otherwise." He grinned. "Right, that settles it. I'm going to become an auror. Oh, that means another two years with your brother. He's becoming an auror too. I guess the trio won't ever get split up." "It's going to have to expand. You can't leave me out, you know. And you have to come and see me on Hogsmeade weekends. I can't go a whole year without seeing you. And you must promise to write to me at least once a week." Ginny ordered, tears forming in her eyes at the thought of not seeing Harry everyday. "I'll write at least once a day!" he promised, kissing her on the lips. "Harry, you know at the battle?" Ginny asked dreamily. "when your mum left my body. Do you want to know what she told me?" "What?" he asked softly. He tried to hide his excitement but then remembered that he was with Ginny. "I've been wanting to know." "She told me to make sure you got married to the right girl." "Oh, and who's that?" He grinned. "If you don't know that by now, then you really do need to stop hanging round with Ron." Ginny giggled as she gazed out at the lake. "Oh and she said to hit Sirius for her, next time you see him. Apparently he played a joke on her, and she never had a chance to get him back." "I must honour my parents wishes." He said nobly, before bursting into a fit of giggles. Calming down, he gazed up to the sky "It's nice to know that they're together up there." "And we're together down here." Ginny said. "Yes, together forever." He said before kissing her.
