Ginny's Hope Category: Books » Harry Potter Censor: PG-13 Genre: Romance Chapters: 5 Reviews: 36 Author: Stave Leonheart Font Size: Bigger (+) - Smaller (-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Chapter ( 2 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well I wrote this in an attempt to break my writer's block with my old story. I hope you enjoy it. It is set in Harry's fifth year. Tell me if you want me to continue it or if this bit of fluff was enough for you! *** Harry looked out the window from the common room. It was the middle of the night, and again he had had trouble sleeping. He continued to have dreams about Cedric's death though he told everyone that he was fine. Well that isn't exactly true. At first he told Hermione and Ron of the dreams he had been having. Of Cedric's blank face and how Voldemort had taken his blood. Ron and Hermione had done their best to be comforting; they had gone with him, been a shoulder to cry on, and generally been great friends. Yet, they always seemed to have worried looks on their faces, as if they thought he would break down any moment and cry. That is why he stopped telling them of the dreams. What he really needed was a sense of normalcy. The wind rustled in the trees of the forbidden forest as Harry looked out. The starts shone in the sky sending a pale light across the land. The only light other than the stars that shone out was the light of Hagrid's hut. He seemed to be having a party in his hut, something he often did to try to keep his spirits up in light of the fact that Voldemort was back. "At least someone is happy tonight." Harry muttered. "Oh Harry, you never really did get over Cedric, did you?" Harry turned to see a short redheaded girl standing in front of him. "Ginny?" Harry stammered, obviously not expecting anyone to be near him. "Are you okay?" She said, the same sort of worry that Harry always hated filling her face. "No. I'm not." Harry suddenly had irrational anger rising in him. Why did everyone have to look at him as if he was going to break out crying at any moment? "Do you know what's wrong with me Ginny?" Ginny was suddenly afraid; she saw the anger in his eyes and wondered what he was going to do. "Uh, no Harry..." "I see, in my dreams, Cedric's dead face in front of me, his eyes boring into me." Harry was now advancing on Ginny, "I see Wormtail taking my blood and raising up Voldemort. I hear my dead mother calling out to save me!" Harry was now very close to Ginny, his eyes flashing with anger when it suddenly turned to tears. Harry didn't often cry in front of people, especially not people he knew. He always felt that if he did they would always think him weak. Ginny took Harry in her arms and patted him on the back. All he did was just weep. She could see that what he had really needed was someone to just listen to him, and truly care without thinking that he was crazy or odd. "I'm sorry Ginny, I didn't mean to pour all this out onto you..." Harry started. "It's okay Harry, I'm here if you need comfort." Ginny gave Harry a winning smile and noted that some of the life came back into his eyes at the smile. She had always missed the way his eyes had shone, whatever he was going through. That spark had left him after the advance with Voldemort. Harry straightened up and there was an awkward silence. Harry seemed to be at a loss of what to say and Ginny was just so flustered that she had finally had a real conversation with Harry without blushing or looking away. "Well, I'll see you tomorrow then..." Harry attempted to break the silence. "Alright then..." Harry headed off to the Boy's Dormitory and for the first time in almost a year, slept well. *** So how was it? Tell me if I should continue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Chapter ( 2 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Ginny's Hope Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. It was the first day of classes in his fifth year. He sat up in bed to see that Ron and all of the others were sleeping. Normally he would have just woken them up but the clock said 5:30 and he figured that the early waking would not be appreciated. He got up, put his robes on and headed down the stairs to see who else was up this early. When he got down the stairs he saw Hermione and Ginny working hard on a paper. They were both so active on their work that they didn't notice him approach. "Hey," he said lightly as he pulled up a chair. "Hey Harry," Hermione said absentmindedly. Ginny just looked away and blushed, her heart sinking that she was blushing. She had hoped that she could keep a normal face around Harry but apparently she had just been surprised that night when she talked with him. "So Ginny, what are you working on?" Said Harry awkwardly, trying to start a conversation with her. "Uh, I was trying to figure out these star charts, these are the only thing Hermione can't help me with as she quit divination." "Let me see if I can help," said Harry obviously trying to be nice. They worked on the charts for a while, loosing track of time. Harry noted that Ginny really was very pretty as she bent over the star chart, trying to locate the northernmost star of Cancer. She finally seemed to have loosened up and had stopped blushing. "Why didn't any of you get me up?" Asked Ron, when he came down the stairs some time later. "It was 5:30 when I woke up and I figured that with a face like yours you could use your beauty sleep," said Harry jokingly. Ron smiled, happy that Harry had actually made a joke, something that he had not done in a while. "Well breakfast is about to start so hurry up or I'll leave without you." Harry laughed and pointed out Cancer to Ginny. She smiled and Harry got up with Hermione and Ron. "Why don't you come down and eat with us?" Asked Harry. Ginny smiled and blushed but picked up her stuff. They all headed through the halls with Ginny trailing behind thinking of her luck. She had come to Harry just when he had needed someone and managed to comfort him. 'Maybe he likes me...' she thought as they came upon the Great Hall. They eventually sat down and began to eat. Harry talked about the Quidditch season and whom they might replace as Keeper. Ron hinted that he might be good for the part. This made Harry get sort of shifty. He didn't want to hurt Ron's feelings by telling him that he actually wasn't the best Keeper out there, but Harry was also the captain for the team. Eventually Harry was going to have to tell Ron that he would not be the Gryffendor Keeper. "What is our first class?" Asked Harry, attempting to change the subject. "Defense Against the Dark Arts, with Professor Scar," replied Hermione. "Who's he," asked Ginny. "Dunno, but he has to be better than our last teacher, Moody," replied Ron. Harry shuddered at the memory. When all of the plates were cleared they headed out to the class. When they got there they saw that all of the Slytherins were already there. They seemed especially smug about something and Ron looked scandalized. "You didn't tell me we had class with... them," he said the word them as if it was a disgusting thing to have in his mouth. "Oh yes Weasley, you know that I just love to look at your ugly mug for an extra hour of the day." Malfoy drawled lightly. The teacher had everyone sit down and started through the roll call. He seemed to be a very strict teacher and Harry thought that he looked somewhat familiar. When he finished he addressed the class in a low baritone voice. "Hello, I will be filling in for Professor Scar as he cannot be here. You can call me Professor Malfoy." Then it hit Harry who he looked like. It was Lucious Malfoy, Draco's father. They were, it seemed like, tormented inside the classroom, and for once even Hermione had nothing good to say about one of the teachers. "Well you guys look like you have been through a tough time," said Ginny approaching. "Lucious Malfoy is the substitute teacher for Defense Against the Dark Arts until they find a permanent one." Said Ron glumly. Ginny looked horrified. "I have that class next! You know how he feels about our family!" "Yea, Ron got some firsthand experience." Said Harry lightly. Ron had been put in the corner of the room with no one to talk to, and was ignored by the teacher. Even when he raised his hand for a question Lucious wouldn't pay attention to him. He had only once mentioned him, and that was to go to the corner of the room, away from everyone. "Hermione, could help me with some of this stuff? He didn't explain it well enough." Ron asked her. "Sure Ron, lets head up to the common room. Wanna come with us Harry, Ginny?" "Not in the mood," said Harry, some of the old weariness showing plainly on his face. "No thanks," said Ginny eyeing Harry. Hermione and Ron headed up to the common room and Harry turned to Ginny, "When does your Defense Against the Dark Arts class start?" "An hour or so." "Okay..." Harry looked as if he was about to say some thing, and then stopped saying what not might have been what he originally planned to say, "See you later Ginny." "Bye." Harry left, to head out near the lake. It always seemed to hold a certain murky gloom that perfectly seemed to reflect what was on his mind. He was out there for about thirty minuets when Ginny approached him. She just sat down next to him, not talking. They sat there like that for almost ten minuets. Not moving, just staring at the murky lake. "Harry..." Ginny started, after about ten minuets, "Would it help if you told me what was on your mind? I'll always be here for you... That is, if you want me to..." Ginny was surprised at her own daring. She hadn't thought that she would have the courage to sit next to him, let alone talk to him. It was just the pure desolation on his face that made her act. "Ginny," Harry started in an almost annoyed tone, then changed it as he looked at Ginny. She seemed to be worried for him, but this time it was filled with another emotion. Not just the worry that he hated, but something else. Was it... Love? Harry got up in quite a hurry leaving Ginny alone by the water. She watched him go and wondered if she had just scared him off for good. "There goes any of my hopes..." She said with tears in her eyes as she turned back to the lake. It seemed to reflect her mood so well. *** [A/N: Okay, I must say, please review! Trees whistled by him and he wondered vaguely if any monster would come and eat him. That would at least take his mind off things, being eaten. When Ginny had looked at him he had seen something, something in her eyes. He wasn't sure what it was but it had touched his soul, and warmed him. At the same time, though, it had scared him. Partially because he thought that if he got involved with someone they might be hurt. He had had a whole lot of experience with danger and knew that it seemed to follow him around. The other part that worried him was that he had never really had a girlfriend. He knew it was silly but he had no clue what to do. When to hold hands, how they would kiss... all of that scared him as he hadn't had a father or mother to teach anything like that. Harry's thoughts were abruptly brought back to the real world by a crash. Thoughts popped into his mind of gigantic dinosaurs coming to eat him. His hand slipped to where his wand was, to find that it wasn't there. He must have dropped it along his sprint out into the forest. His next class was in about 40 minutes and he didn't want to miss it. Another crash sounded, this one much closer. It seemed that something was trying to move stealthily and accidentally was crashing over trees. What could be big enough to crash down entire trees? Harry's heart jumped to his throat at another crash. Whatever it was, was coming closer and if Harry didn't find something to do fast it would soon be upon him. Suddenly the trees to the side of him parted and a huge creature stepped out into the clearing that Harry was in. It had a head like a snake, with its tongue flitting out at Harry. It had the body of a Minataur, hair sprouting from its chest in tufts. Its legs were gray and wrinkled like an elephant's legs. It was at least 30 feet high and it looked, with its black eyes, straight at Harry. *** Ginny finally got up, her class being in about 5 minutes. Her face seemed to reflect her black mood. All she could think about was Harry's scared face when she had tried to talk to him. Now she had no chance with him, and he would probably avoid her. As she was walking down the path she stepped on something hard. She looked down to see a wand, Harry's wand. He would probably need it, especially if he was in the forest. She picked it up, steeling herself to find Harry and hand him his wand. Even though she thought that she could barely live through another one of the looks he had given her. Like fear mingled with compassion and trepidation. She suddenly heard a roar from the forest and realized that Harry could be in immediate danger, he might need his wand. She ran into the forest calling for him. The wind tousled back her fiery red hair and she tripped, falling onto the ground and hitting her head on the root of a tree. As she got up she saw blood on her hand and realized that she was bleeding; though it didn't hurt much. She finally got to where she had heard the roars. Harry was standing in the middle of a clearing with a Manticore right next to him. Harry was holding a branch from a tree and attempting to fight it off. The beast kept snapping its snake head at him and Harry had several tears in his clothes where he had barely managed to get out of the way in time. "Harry! I have your wand!" Ginny shouted to him, throwing the wand to him. Harry caught the wand and shouted, "Stupefy!" The spell hit the Manticore and reflected off it, almost hitting Harry. Harry tried again and it reflected off this time burning a hole in a tree. It seemed that when a spell reflected off the beast it enhanced the spells' potency and fired it back. "Harry! It reflects spells, just RUN," Ginny shouted, trying to get his attention. "I already tried! He just circles around me and stops me from escaping! You get out of here, I'll take care of it," said Harry while continuing to dodge the lethal animal's swipes at him. Ginny had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. Here was Harry, playing hero again, and attempting to take on the entire situation by himself. Ginny shot a spell at the Manticore's back and managed to distract it for a second. This was long enough for Harry to start running. The Manticore looked back at Harry and snapped at him. It caught Harry by the leg and injected some of it's poison. Harry was bleeding badly as he ran out with Ginny. He could barely run but luckily the Manticore was too large to fit under the cover of the trees easily. The Manticore, it seemed, could not be stopped though. It pushed its enormous head in after Harry and Ginny then blew fire out of its mouth. The flames erupted around them, and they where sent flying. Harry rolled off onto the ground, his leg almost unmovable with pain. Ginny crashed into a tree and sprawled on the ground, barely clinging onto consciousness. It was all she could do to get up and start to run again. Harry was another matter. He couldn't get up. His leg was beginning to become paralyzed by the poison in it. Harry struggled to get up, but it was no use. The poison was cutting off his movement, and was spreading up. The Manticore tore through the trees to get to him. Ginny screamed as the Manticore lowered its head, face to face with Harry. That moment seemed to last for an eternity. Suddenly, Harry sprang fourth his arm and, with his wand, punctured a hole in the Manticore's black eye. The roar that it gave off was thunderous. Harry's hair was blown back as the beast rose to its full height of 30 feet. Ginny looked up at it and, with all the effort she could muster, threw a rock at it. The rock fell into the beast's mouth, heading down its throat. It seemed that the beast was choking on it. "Harry, get out of here!!!" Ginny yelled. "I can't, my leg is paralyzed and it is spreading." Ginny looked up at the Manticore. It had managed to swallow the large rock and Ginny now had the Manticore to face and Harry to save. "Harry, I need your help." She said, heading over to Harry, "I need you to help me by supporting my spell. This is one that I learned, that we aren't supposed to know," Harry gave her a look, "I'll explain later. This is the only way I can see to defeat the Manticore." Harry looked almost calm and set. "Alright then, basic supporting spell drill?" "Yes. Mirriboira Reflectrioside!" Ginny shouted. Harry cast his supporting spell and a barrier formed around them. It seemed to be slightly translucent and airy, while at the same time opaque and solid. The Manticore blew fire down at them, using his one good eye for aim. When the flames hit the barrier they seemed to stop for a second, and then they reversed and slammed against the Manticore. The Manticore's ability to reflect spell's must have had an extension to even his own spells. The fire went racing towards Ginny and Harry; the protective barrier was now gone. *** "Hermione do you hear that? That roaring I mean?" Ron asked her. Hermione rolled her eyes and sighed, "Ron, you need to focus. Don't make up stories to get out of work." "But-" He began and she cut him off. "No buts, now lets keep wor-" Now Hermione was cut off. There was a load roar from the distance and some flames shot out of the top of the forbidden forest. *** "Mirriboira Reflectrioside!" Ginny shouted. Harry supported the spell once more and the flames slammed against the odd barrier. They hovered there for a moment, seemingly pressing against the strength of the barrier. This time when the flames had come down they had been about ten times stronger. Ginny held a tight hold onto Harry, so tight that he thought that she was crushing his bones. The flames shot back into the sky crashing directly into the Manticore. This time, his magic failed because of the force of the fire. The Manticore went running off charred badly and now completely blind. "Harry?" Ginny called. Harry was out cold. Now I would like to thank those that have reviewed my story. College Girl: Thanks for reviewing right from the start! I love all of your stories and have read most (all?) of them. Jessica: I put Lucious as the DADA teacher just to add something original. Thanks for reviewing. ~*Ginny*~: I'm glad you are enjoying it! Keep reading it, it is going to get better and longer. Firebolt909: I struggled with the question of if I could actually put Lucious as DADA teacher because of Dumbledore. I decided that Dumbledore would always try to see the good in people, and who knows, maybe Lucious will turn to the good side because of Dumbledore's influence. Carrie: Thanks for reviewing it! Hope you enjoy the rest. Onedergirl: I plan on posting more and more, so keep a look out for it! Thanks for reviewing! *MiCheLLe*: I'm glad you say that a whole lot happened! I didn't want people to stop reading it because it was moving to slow. Emme Fetale: Thanks for reviewing! I like your review because it was so abrupt "Of course you should continue this! Right now!" Kelzery: I hope you keep reading (and reviewing hehe). *** This concludes my boring and unessential thank you portion of it. Remember r/r! (I know, I'm demanding! He opened his eyes and the first thing he saw made his heart leap. It was Ginny. Since when did she make his heart leap? "You awake Harry?" Asked Ginny. "If you call conscious awake. I feel like a ton of bricks ran over me." He replied. Ginny smiled at him. "How long have I been out?" He asked. "Almost a week, you had me, I mean us really worried." "Where's Hermione and Ron?" Harry asked. "They're in class, this is my free period so I decided to come down and see if you were awake. Madam Pomfrey said that Manticore poison can keep you out for weeks but for some reason you're up now." "Don't be so sure as to call me 'up'. I doubt that I can sit up." "We have detentions. The teachers reckon that we shouldn't have gone into the forest. They say that I should have gone for one of the teachers instead of chasing after you." She said. "Ginny," Harry began. "Yes?" "I wanted to... to thank you. I think that I might just need to talk with someone. Thanks for your support." Harry smiled weakly and Ginny didn't know what to think, mostly just happiness. "Thanks Harry," She said smiling. "For thanking you? Isn't that sort of redundant?" Ginny hit Harry in the arm playfully and at that moment Madam Pomfrey came in. "He's awake? So soon? Well he needs rest so get out Ginny. You can talk to him after he has eaten and rested some more." She said. Ginny shot Harry a sympathetic look and was ushered out. *** It was almost a week later before Harry was let out of the hospital wing. Though he hadn't been out in a week the first thing he did was to go to Ginny to talk with her. He found her near the Potions room just when she had gotten out. She had a sour look on her face, but when she saw Harry she cheered up. "Hey Harry," she said lightly. "Hey Ginny... Uh, I was wondering if maybe you might wanna head to Hogsmeade sometime... You know, to hang out..." He stammered. Ginny immediately flushed red. Was Harry Potter asking her out? "Sure Harry, I'd love to."
