She sighed. There was a dance coming up again, one of those kind where the girls ask the guys out. Would she dare to ask him? Or would she settle for Nevile again? She sighed again and looked out the window. She was in the lounge area in Griffindor. It was about midnight and everyone else had gone to bed. Except for one or two other people, who sat dozing in chairs. But, Ginny sat, wondering if she should ask Harry to the dance. She knew that sleep wasn’t an option until she figured out what to do. What should she do? She drifted into an uneasy sleep, waking up in starts, and then drifting off again. Once she woke and saw that the two other students had woken up and gone to bed. She was the only one there. She thought about going to her bed, but decided against it, knowing she would have an even harder time sleeping in there. "Ginny?" Ron’s tired voice croaked. "What are you doing still here?" Ginny sat with a start. "Ron?" she asked cautiously. "Can I ask you a question?" "Sure, but can it wait until tomorrow?" Ron asked, yawning. "I just came down, because I forgot something…" Something in Ron’s voice, made Ginny look at him closely. "What did you forget?" she asked. "Nothing important," Ron said quickly, walking over to a chair and picking a piece of paper up. He looked a bit relieved. "It has to be important if you’re coming down her in the middle of the night," Ginny said, thinking quickly. ‘A love letter?’ "It’s just homework that I didn’t want anyone to steal," Ron said quickly. "Oh come on, Ron," Ginny said. "We both know that no one would want to steal your homework. What is it really?" Ron sighed, knowing that there was no way around it. "Secret for a secret," Ron said, reverting to an old childhood game that they used to play. Ginny smiled. "Deal," she said. Ron stuck out his hand and Ginny clasped it warmly. "It’s a love letter," Ron said, looking embarrassed. "Really?" Ginny gushed. "Who’s it from?" "Don’t know," Ron admitted. "But I’m going to find out. You’re turn." "Well it goes along the lines of the question I wanted to ask you," Ginny said, suddenly embarrassed. She mumbled, "I was wondering if Harry would go to the dance with me…" "With you?" Ron asked, surprised. "I mean, I knew you had a crush on him. But, I didn’t think you were taking it this seriously…" Ginny pouted. "You think he doesn’t like me?" "He likes you Ginny," Ron assured her. "It’s just that he doesn’t really know you…" "Then he won’t say yes," Ginny pouted. "I don’t know," Ron admitted. "You might as well ask him. He’s turned down every offer he’s gotten so far…" "You really think I should ask him?" Ginny asked. "Is that what’s been keeping you up all night?" Ron asked. Ginny nodded, embarrassed again. Ron chuckled quietly. "I think he might say yes. You should ask him." "I think I will," Ginny said in resolve. Ron nodded encouragingly. "Now, I’m going to bed," Ron said, sternly. "And you should to." ^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^ The Next Day… ^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^ "Harry?" Ginny asked nervously. Harry smiled at her and asked her what was up. She had cornered him as he was leaving the room, making sure no one was in earshot. "Well, I was just wondering if you’d like to go to the dance with me…" Harry looked surprised. "Sure, I guess," He said. Ginny’s face broke into a smile. Ron gave her thumbs up. "See you then, I guess," Harry said and then left. "Good job, Ginny," Ron said, smiling at his younger sister. "I can’t believe he said yes," Ginny said in excitement. "I wonder what I should wear!" "Oh boy, here we go…" Ron muttered under his breath. And Ginny bolted to tell Hermonie. ^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^ Later… ^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^ "Oh Ron, I’m so sorry," Ginny said apologetically. "I didn’t mean to forget about you! I was just so excited…" "Hey, no big deal," Ron said, smiling. "Thanks for not mentioning it in front of anyone, though." "You mean you haven’t told anyone else?" Ginny asked. "I thought that you’d have at least told Harry…" "Nah," Ron said, shrugging. "I’ve been too embarrassed. I have no idea who she is. What if she’s really ugly or something?" "You know who it could be?" Ginny said, thinking. "It could be Hermonie!" "Hermonie?" Ron asked, aghast. "She likes that guy that came here last year…" "Oh yeah him," Ginny laughed. "She only went with him, because she wanted to make someone jealous. At least that’s what she told me… She wouldn’t tell me whom she wanted to make jealous though…" "Ha," Ron said, muttering to himself. "Let her have her deal with her own love problems." "You’re jealous," Ginny teased. "I’ll find out who this mystery girl is soon, though," Ron said confidently. "Yeah, right," Ginny said, laughing. "She said that she would be waiting for you at the dance, and will be wearing…" ^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^ At The Dance ^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^ Ginny stared happily at Harry. This was a dream come true for her. She sighed, remembering Ron’s fears. He had spilled them all out to her, the night before, wondering about his mystery girl. Ginny knew that Hermonie fit the bill perfectly, but kept her mouth shut. Harry seemed happy enough. They chatted for real, for the first time. And Ginny realized that Harry wasn’t just a wizard who had lived when Voldemort tried to kill him, when he was a baby. She began to see the real Harry Potter, and found that she liked him even more. Ginny looked over to where Ron was suppose to meet his ‘mystery girl’ and saw Hermonie. She seemed nervous. Ron walked up nervously to Hermonie and they started talking earnestly. Ginny sighed. This was the most perfect date that she could ever have asked for… ^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^v^^v^v^ The End… I know it’s bad, but hey, everyone has to start at the beginning… I’m not a very good short story writer, so I hope that you were able to bear with me.
