A cold chill spread over the grounds at Hogwarts. Harry, Ron and Hermione sat by the warm fire in the Gryffindor common room. There was no one there except them, it was the Christmas holidays. “I can’t believe everyone’s gone home,” said Ron “ I mean, you’d think people would stay here, where we’re safe from You Know Who” “Mmmmmm” Harry murmured sleepily. Hermione, on the other hand, was very hurt by Ron’s comment. “You mean you only stayed here to be safe?” she retorted “You didn’t want to spend time with us?” “I didn’t say that………” Ron answered. Harry sighed. Ron and Hermione were always bickering, even though it was common knowledge that they liked each other. The thing was, neither of them would admit it. It drove Harry, Ginny and the Weasley twins round the bend. Why couldn’t they just accept it? It was their fifth year at Hogwarts, and Voldemort was in the height of his power. Christmas had been spoilt for most wizards, because they knew that they and their relatives were in danger from the Death Eaters. Harry knew that this year he would have to face Voldemort again. He was trying to force this to the back of his mind… to just forget it, but it just wouldn’t work. Harry wasn’t scared, but he was worried, and puzzled. Why did Voldemort want to kill him so much? The only person who knew the answer to this was Dumbledore. But Dumbledore refused to tell Harry. What had he said in the first year? “When you are old enough Harry, you will know” Harry wondered how long he would have to wait. Soon he sprang back to reality. Hermione and Ron had ceased fighting, but they were glaring at each other from across the table. Harry chuckled “Look at you two, you’re always fighting, can’t you find some other hobby?” Hermione smiled at him, and just at that moment the portrait hole opened. In came Ginny Weasley, the only other person to have stayed for the holidays. Ron grinned, “ Here comes lover girl, Harry” “Shut up” hissed Harry as Ginny came over. Ron and Hermione burst out laughing. It seemed their little tiff was over. Hermione grinned at Ron. Both of them knew that Harry and Ginny really liked each other. It had started off with just Ginny having a crush on Harry, but then Harry seemed to develop a liking for Ginny too. The trouble was, they were both too shy to ask. A bit like her and Ron really, Hermione thought……….. All three were removed from their good moods when they saw the look on Ginny’s face. “Ginny, are you all right?” exclaimed Hermione. Ginny looked confused, worried and shocked all at the same time. The piece of paper she was clutching in her hand obviously contained bad news. Ginny glanced at the paper before speaking, “I’ve just got an owl from dad. Well, you know Perkins, the old guy who works in the same department as dad?” “What about him?” questioned Ron. “He’s dead. You Know Who arrived at Dad’s office just after dad had left. He realised dad wasn’t there, so he killed Perkins instead.” Ginny began to sob, “It could have been dad” Ron’s face went pale, paler than either Harry or Hermione had ever seen him. “Oh Ron, I’m so sorry” whispered Hermione. “Sorry about what? Dad isn’t dead is he? He won’t die, he just can’t…” Ron’s voice tailed off. hopelessly. He ran off up to his dorm, shooting a hurt glance at Hermione as he went. Harry followed, just to make sure that Ron was OK. Hermione sat, gazing up at the door that Ron and Harry had exited from. Why? Why was everything so difficult? She looked back to their past years at Hogwarts, when everything had been so much fun. But this year had started difficult, and it just wasn’t getting any better. She woke up from her daydream when she felt Ginny’s hand on her shoulder. She looked up. “Anything you want to tell me about, Hermione?” asked Ginny. “Yes, there is, a lot” Hiya! What do you think so far? I know it’s not very exciting yet, but hey, I’m new around here! Pleeeeeeeeeze review, I need ideas to make it better. There will be more of a story, and more romance too. I’m sure Ron hates me, and I like him so much. Will he ever like me, do you think?” Ginny looked at Hermione’s tear-stained face. If only she knew how much Ron liked her. It had only been a few days since Ron had said almost exactly the same thing to her about Hermione. When would they stop making such a mess of things? “You know what Hermione? I think Ron likes you far more than you give him credit for.” she replied. “Do you honestly think so?” said Hermione, her face suddenly brightening up again. “Of course I do!” smiled Ginny, “Why don’t you ask him? Then you’d hear it from his mouth. That would make you feel better, wouldn’t it?” “Of course it would! I’ll ask him tomorrow morning, before the others arrive!” Ginny grinned. She didn’t think she’d ever heard Hermione be so serious about asking Ron. And when Hermione Granger got serious about something, there was no stopping her! Upstairs, in the boy’s dorm, things were not going so well. Ron was refusing to be consoled. Harry was getting annoyed. “Look Ron, Hermione likes you and you know it. Stop fussing and ask her out.” “It’s not as easy as that. What if she says no?” “Then she’s not worth wasting your time over,” Harry said shortly. He didn’t really mean that, but he had to say something. “Maybe you’re right Harry. I’ll ask her tomorrow.” Ron sat up and smiled. “Go for it!” All seemed well in the Gryffindor tower that night. Ron, Hermione and Ginny were all happy. Harry, on the other hand, was not. He was kept awake by burning pains in his scar. He had been feeling them on and off all of last term, but he hadn’t had them this bad since he had met Voldemort last year. Why was this happening now? Was Voldemort planning another attack? That was the last thing he needed. The rest of the school were returning tomorrow, lessons would be starting, preparations for his OWLS would be continuing and he would be starting to coach the Gryffindor Quidditch team again (Harry had been appointed captain). He really didn’t think he could manage to face Voldemort again, especially with his memories of their last meeting. When Harry finally fell asleep, he dreamt……… Voldemort was in a large hall, with all his followers around him. “I understand that all the plans for the attack are in place?” said Voldemort in his cold unfeeling voice. “Yes master,” spoke one of the Death Eaters, who Harry recognized to be Lucius Malfoy “My son has informed me of the date of the Gryffindor Quidditch match, and we have arranged it so that everything will run smoothly, unlike last time.” Voldemort laughed. That laugh was so unfeeling, so cruel, that even the Death Eaters stirred. “This time there is no way for Harry Potter to escape. He will be killed for sure” The dream faded, and Harry woke with a start. Light was streaming in through a gap in his curtains, and Ron was awake. Harry knew what he must do. Go to Dumbledore, straight after breakfast. Ron, Ginny, Hermione and Harry went down stairs to the Great Hall together. Hermione noticed that Harry looked pale. “Harry, are you alright? You look really unwell.” She asked “I’m fine, just fine” he replied in a strained voice. Ron and Hermione exchanged glances, but both turned away, blushing. On that front at least, things seemed to be going well. Harry wolfed down his breakfast, and rushed off to see Dumbledore. Ron looked confused, “What’s with him?” He asked Hermione, through a mouthful of egg and bacon. Hermione shook her head, and answered, “I think it’s something to do with You-Know-Who. Maybe Harry’s having those pains in his scar again.” Ron looked worried, but he knew there wasn’t anything he could do, Harry could look after himself. Hermione was worried too. Harry was independent, she knew that, but he definitely needed their friendship more than ever. “Come on, let’s go look for him,” she said. She had more to do than look for Harry, though. As soon as they had gone out of earshot of the teachers in the Great Hall, she spoke. “Ron, I’ve been wondering,………” she said, nervously. “Go on” he replied. “I…I. Oh, I’m useless at this! I really, really like you and I just wanted to know if you like me too?” she blurted out. Ron stared, then grinned. “Hermione, don’t be such a jerk, you know I like you! I just wasn’t sure whether you liked me, you know, with the Krum thing and all that.” “Look Ron, just forget about Krum,” said Hermione, her face glowing with happiness. “I like you more than anybody else. Krum was weird anyway, he couldn’t even say my name!” Ron slipped his hand into hers and said, “Hermione, I love you sooo much!” “Me too.” For both of them, it felt like the best day in their lives. But, while they were laughing and enjoying the last day of the holiday, Harry was not happy. In fact he was far from happy……………………………………………… Hi! Hope you like this episode- there’s more coming! Upon this boy lay the fate of the whole entire universe, he sadly thought. But he couldn’t tell Harry yet. No, that was for another day, another time. But it would be very soon. “Harry” he said, “I know that you’ve been expecting this for a long time now, but you’re going to have to face Voldemort again soon. That dream was a warning of another attack on you.” He gazed sadly around the room, “At least we have had a warning.” Although Harry had been expecting this, he was amazed to see Dumbledore being so calm about it. “But sir, can’t we do anything?” “What is there to do?” asked Dumbledore, “It is in your destiny, Harry. It is not for me to decide. No one argues with destiny.” Harry was confused. Destiny? What destiny? Dumbledore was beginning to sound like Professor Trelawny. “Sir, may I ask you a question?” “Ask away.” “Well, you know this destiny thing? Is that why Voldemort wants to kill me?” Dumbledore sighed. Harry was a very clever boy, exceptionally clever in fact. “It is indeed Harry, it is indeed.” The tone of Dumbledore’s voice told Harry that the interview was over. It hadn’t been a very encouraging talk either. Dumbledore normally had something good to say, Harry thought. But not this time. As he made his way up to the common room, he heard a loud noise that sounded like a lot of people making their way up the stairs towards him. The rest of the school were back. Harry hurried on to the portrait hall, not wanting to be confronted by the whole of Gryffindor house at this moment in time. He climbed through into the Gryffindor common room. Over in one corner, Ron, Hermione and Ginny were sitting in armchairs. “Everyone’s back!” he said. “Oh?” said Ron, not sounding very interested. He leaned over to whisper something into Hermione’s ear, and she giggled. “Ron!” she said, disapprovingly. “Not with them here.” Harry got the feeling that he wasn’t wanted there, so he was going to get up when Hermione said, “Wait Harry, don’t go! Ron and I were just saying that now we’re together…” “You are?” interrupted Harry. “We sure are!” said Ron, and he leaned over to kiss Hermione on the cheek. She smiled, but carried on, “We were thinking that now, we want you two to go out too.” Harry was stunned. Hermione normally had more respect for his feelings that to go yelling them out to the world. However, he had no time to reply, because the rest of the Gryffindors began to storm through the portrait hall at that moment. Ginny had gone bright red, and looked at the floor, as Fred and George Weasley arrived. “Hiya…ooooh, what’s going on here? Has our ikkle Ronnie got his first girlfriend then?” said Fred. “I think he has. Maybe we should write and tell mumsikins. Hmm, wonder what she would think?” said George. Ron stood up. “SHUT UP!” he yelled. “Can’t you two just go away and leave Hermione and I alone?” George looked at his younger brother, and grinned. “Keep your hair on!” he said, and left, quickly. Later on, while everyone was unpacking and chatting to their friends, Ginny and Harry were left alone near the fire. They kept casting shy glances at each other, and opening their mouths as though to say something, and then shutting them again. What they didn’t know, was that they had not been left alone by chance. Ron, Hermione, George and Fred were all watching them from the other side of the room, hidden by a group of strategically placed armchairs. “Do you think they’ll speak to each other?” asked Hermione, “Course they will!” said Ron “We did, didn’t we?” He put his arm around Hermione, and kissed her, but this time on the lips. Hermione was shy at first, but she soon forgot that Fred and George were there, as she sank into a world, where only her and Ron existed. All she could see and feel was him, and she was loving it. When he stopped kissing her, she smiled. Her first real kiss, and it was with Ron. She wanted another. She wrapped her arms round his neck, and kissed him passionately. They fell into a world of bliss……………………… and then George spoke, sounding sickened, “Sorry to interrupt you guys, but something’s happening on the Harry and Ginny front!” “What is it?” asked Ron, with his arm around Hermione. “Well, Harry’s got his arm round her and, Yuk, they’re kissing too!” Fred laughed, “Yes, there’s another pair of love-birds!” Harry was enjoying his first kiss, just like Hermione had done. Ginny had her arms round his neck, and he had his arms round her waist. She had changed so much since last year, he thought. In fact, so had Hermione. They were both much less shy, much more adventurous. He broke away from Ginny, and they smiled at each other. “That was nice,” whispered Ginny. Harry just smiled, and kissed her again and again. It was a wonderful feeling, he thought. Just at that moment, Ron, Hermione, Fred and George came over, all grinning from ear to ear. “Well, well, well” said George. “It’s only the first day back you know!” Harry looked around at all his friends. Ron and Hermione, holding hands; Fred and George, just being themselves. And then of course there was Ginny, his new girlfriend. Harry felt that he was the happiest boy in the world. But then, he felt a searing pain in his scar. Where was Voldemort now, and what was he planning? Harry was going to meet him sooner that he thought……………………… Oooh, what an ending! Aren’t I horrid??!! He kept feeling the pains in his scar, and they were worse that ever before. He tried to concentrate on his work, but it was very hard. The only thing that kept him sane was Ginny. She listened, and understood. Harry was glad they’d finally got together. It gave him a person to talk to who wasn’t obsessed with their own life. Ron and Hermione were almost ignoring him; they were so occupied with each other. The big discovery happened a few days before the Gryffindor Quidditch match against Ravenclaw. Harry had just come back from a busy training session with the team, when an owl arrived. It said, in a deep flowing hand that Harry recognised as Dumbledore’s, Dear Harry, Please come and see me in my office tonight. I know that you’ve just been practising Quidditch, but this is very important. The password is ‘Fizzing Whizzbee’. Albus Dumbledore Harry was confused. Why did Dumbledore want to see him so urgently? Was it to do with the destiny thing? Or was it something else? Harry muttered a few words of explanation to Ginny, who was sitting with Ron and Hermione, trying to concentrate on some horrible Potions homework, and hurried off to Dumbledore’s office. When he arrived, Dumbledore was pacing up and down. “Ah Harry,” he said “Please take a seat.” When Harry was sat down, he continued, “I need to explain something to you. Something very important, which could totally change the way you see everything.” At this point, Harry was lost. Change the way he saw things? Dumbledore continued, “It concerns the position between you and Voldemort. I know that for ages, you have wondered why he tried to kill you when you were so young. I feel that now is the time for me to tell you.” Harry gasped. “But sir, I…………” Dumbledore smiled at Harry, but it was the kind of smile that meant, ‘Yes, yes, just let me finish’ So Harry was quiet. “Voldemort tried to kill you, because you are the legendary heir of Gryffindor. All the Potters have been directly related to him, but you are the chosen one.” Harry was shocked, surprised and amused all at the same time. He knew he shouldn’t laugh, but Voldemort was beginning to sound like one of those aliens from the Muggle film, Toy Story. However, he listened carefully, as Dumbledore continued to explain. “In an ancient script, said to be written by Godric Gryffindor himself, you are referred to as ‘though young, the chosen heir of Gryffindor will save us from a greater evil than has ever been known.’ Voldemort was clever enough to discover this, and his ultimate aim is now to destroy you, and gain immortality.” “ But how can you know that those writings are talking about me?” asked Harry. Dumbledore replied, “It would take many days to explain, Harry. But, trust me, I have read many ancient texts, and I have worked this out.” Harry was stunned. He had known all along that there was something different about him, but he had never known exactly what. So, he was the heir of Gryffindor, and he was to defeat Voldemort. But how could he, a 15-year-old boy, defeat the most powerful dark wizard of all time? It was beyond reason, Harry thought. As if reading his mind, Dumbledore spoke, “I can understand that this is a shock to you. But Harry, I had to tell you know, for I feel that the time will soon come when you will meet Voldemort for the final time. I want you to be prepared.” Harry talked to Dumbledore for a little while longer, and then hurried back to the Gryffindor common room. He saw Ginny, Ron and Hermione and leaped over several tables in his hurry to tell them his news. Hermione was doing homework, and Ron was talking to her. Ginny was dozing. They all looked up when Harry approached. “Harry, what did Dumbledore want?” asked Ron. “Oh, so you’ve decided to speak to me now?” snapped Harry. Hermione spoke. “Oh Harry, I’m so sorry. We didn’t mean to exclude you.” Harry smiled, “That’s OK. But listen, I have some weird news.” Ginny came and snuggled up in his chair. “What is it?” she said, and kissed him. Harry told them what Dumbledore had said. “Oh Harry,” breathed Hermione, “That’s so…amazing.” “Wow Harry!” said Ron reverently. “You’re Gryffindor’s heir” “Yes, but please you guys, don’t treat me any differently. Let’s just carry on as normal, OK?” said Harry. “Of course,” said Ginny, putting her arm round him. “But Harry, you’re going to have to meet You-Know-Who soon. I don’t want to lose you.” “When d’you think you’ll have to fight him?” asked Ron. Harry wished Ron wouldn’t jump to conclusions. Who said he was going to have to fight Voldemort? “I don’t know,” he said slowly, “But I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be at the Quidditch match.” He remembered his dream. “Oh, but that’s only two days away!” cried Ginny, “What if you – you, die?” “Let’s just enjoy the time we’ve got, OK?” said Harry. He leaned forward to kiss her, passionately. “I love you Ginny-never forget that. I’m not going to let Voldemort kill me without a fight. Not when I’d have to leave you behind.” Ginny smiled as her nose brushed against his. She kissed him, her lips overlapping his, her tongue touching his. She liked this better than normal kissing she thought. Ron and Hermione felt sick as they watched, but Harry and Ginny were loving every minute of it. After all, this might be the last day they spent together…………… Hi people! Isn’t it getting exciting, and sloppy?! I just love H/G, R/H fics, although there wasn’t a lot of R/H in this one. Sorry! She smiled at him, but she looked worried. In fact, she looked very worried. Today was the day of the Quidditch match where Harry was to meet Voldemort for the last time. Today, one of them was to destroy the other. Harry could understand why she was worried. It seemed strange, how was a 15-year-old wizard meant to defeat the most powerful dark wizard of all time? Well, he thought, it was his destiny, and what could he do to argue with that? He kissed Ginny. It was a desperate kiss, one of a person who did not know how much longer they would be alive. Ginny responded, wrapping her arms round his neck, and rubbing her nose against his. She pressed her lips against his, enjoying every moment, wishing that it could just last forever. But it couldn’t. She stopped, but kept her arms entwined around his neck, staying as close to him as possible. As she looked at him, she felt tears coming to her eyes. She tried to hide them, but Harry saw. “Ginny, don’t cry,” he whispered, “This might not be the end. I’ll always love you, what ever happens today.” She nodded, and glanced around the common room. Gryffindors were leaving, their spirits soaring. They had no idea what was to come. Ron and Hermione approached them, holding hands. They glanced at Harry and Ginny. “Come on, you guys. It’s time to go to the match.” Said Hermione. She let go of Ron’s hand, and helped Ginny up. They walked off towards the Portrait hole, Hermione obviously trying to comfort Ginny. Ron stood awkwardly, waiting for Harry, who got up slowly. “So, I guess this is it,” said Ron, as they walked. “Yeah,” “Harry, what’re you going to do? I mean, you’ve survived three times already, Voldemort’s not exactly going to go easy on you, is he?” “No, I guess not. I’m just going to have to try my best. He’s not going to kill me without a fight, I promise.” Said Harry. They walked the rest of the way down to the Quidditch pitch in silence. As they reached the entrance, Ron gulped. “Harry, good luck.” Harry smiled nervously. It felt silly, getting so hyped up about a Quidditch match, but this was going to be the match of all matches; maybe the final match. The rest of the team were already there, and were getting changed. George Weasley looked up as Harry came in. “Why the long face Harry? Has our Ginny dumped you?” “In your dreams!” said Harry, trying to sound cheerful. “Right guys,” he said, pulling on his Quidditch robes. “You know what to do. Let’s go!” The crowd were noisy, full of excitement about the game ahead. Harry noticed that Dumbledore had turned up. Madame Hooch blew her whistle, and they took off. Harry swerved around other players and the Bludgers, all the time squinting for the Snitch. Suddenly, the cheering crowds went silent. Something was happening down on the ground. Harry swooped low, and then saw them. Hooded figures, right below him. Where they had come from he just didn’t know, but they were there. They were marching, marching towards a tall figure on who was stood right in the middle of the pitch. Harry knew that figure. So, it seemed did the rest of the Gryffindor team. They were flying away, over the stands- towards school. Harry wanted to follow them, to escape. But he couldn’t. His time had truly come. He flew to the ground, and landed in front of the tall figure. He could hear screams from the crowd, but he ignored them. He knew what he had to do; he just didn’t know how to do it. The figure spoke “So Harry Potter,” it breathed, “We meet again.” Harry gritted his teeth, and drew his wand from inside his robes. “Oh, we are a brave little boy aren’t we? Going to save the world now?” He drew back his robes, and stepped forward. “Three times now you have slipped away from me, Harry Potter. But not today. Today I will kill you for sure. How can a boy like you defeat me?” he laughed, a cruel, mirthless laugh that was icy cold. Harry glared into Voldemort’s mad eyes. They were red, contrasting with his chalk white skin. He drew a breath, and spoke. “You killed my parents. You’ve killed hundreds of innocent people, and you just don’t care.” He yelled this out to the silent stadium. “Love and happiness don’t matter to you. You may be powerful, and dangerous, but nobody cares about you. Not even your Death Eaters. You rule by fear, and hatred. Those things can never win. Never.” He spoke more bravely than he felt, and Voldemort knew it. “Love and happiness are nothing. I have power, and power is all I need.” Harry glanced around him. He saw Dumbledore, Ginny, Hermione, Ron, teachers and pupils; all listening, waiting for him to speak. “You know you have to lose. You just try to appear strong. You’re a murderer, a ruthless killer, and I’m not going to let you kill me.” He outstretched his wand, and Voldemort did the same. “Brave words. Very brave indeed. Dumbledore will be proud of you. But what use are words? You’re on your own now, Harry Potter. All your friends have left you, and there’s no Dumbledore to protect you now. So, I think now is the time………” He stopped, because someone in the crowd had screamed. A long scream, full of pain. Voldemort looked round, and saw Ginny, running down through the stands. Harry looked up, saw her, looked and Voldemort and yelled; pointing his want at Voldemort’s back ‘Stupefy!’ Voldemort fell into a heap on the ground. It was such a simple curse, yet he had never thought of it. There was a gasp from the crowd. Then there were cheers, and whoops of joy. Harry Potter had defeated Voldemort! The Death Eaters, finding themselves suddenly leaderless, ran. No one followed them. No one cared. Harry glanced around him, and saw Dumbledore coming towards him. “Well done, Harry. So simple!” “I know. But what are we going to do with this?” said Harry, kicking the stupefied Voldemort. “Well, we would be stooping to his level if we killed him, and that would be difficult anyway. He’s hardly human.” Dumbledore sighed, “I hate them, and if I can help it this will be their last kill. I’m sure you know who I mean.” Harry nodded slowly, “The Dementors.” “Of course.” He said, lifting Voldemort with his wand. “But now, it’s time for a feast!” Harry grinned. Ginny ran through the crowds on the pitch. The game had been abandoned, everyone was celebrating. She pushed through a crowd of first years, and saw Harry. He was being patted on the back by every one who could reach him. He moved away from them as he saw Ginny. She raced into his arms. “Oh Harry!” she breathed. “I couldn’t have done it without you.” He said, kissing her.
