They were all screaming at him saying things like, "Pick me! Pick me!" or "Don't pick him! He's no good! Move me three spaces to the right!" He couldn't make a choice between the bishop and the rook. "Hurry up and move," groaned Ron. "I'm thinking," Harry mumbled. Hermione raised her eyebrows behind her book. "I don't see why you guys play that game it's totally pointless! Why don't you study instead or do something useful?" she suggested. Ron ignored her. "Move, Harry," he ordered. "Wait," Harry muttered. "First thing that comes into your mind. You know that you're no good anyway," Ron mumbled. Harry scowled. "Fine!" Harry moved the rook two spaces to the left. "You sure you wanna do that?" Ron asked. Harry nodded. "You're sure?" "Yes, Ron," Harry answered. "Absolutely positively sure?" Ron asked. "Yeah, just move Ron," Harry replied. "I dunno. I don't think I'd do that…" "It's your turn, Ron," Harry said loudly. Ron shrugged. "Okay…if you're sure," he mumbled. Just then, a girl burst through the portrait hole covering her face and ran up to her dorm. "Ginny!" exclaimed Harry realizing whom it was. He stood up in surprise. It looked as though she had been crying. "What's wrong?" He turned to look at Ron, but Ron was moving his knight and acting as though nothing had happened. Hermione snapped her book shut. "I'll go find out," she murmured and she went up the stairs to Ginny's dorm. Harry sat down. "I wonder what's wrong," Harry mused. "What do you think, Ron?" He glanced at Ron. "Checkmate!" exclaimed Ron triumphantly. Harry gaped at him. "Ron!" "What?!" "Haven't you been listening to a word that has just gone on?" Harry asked. "Umm…no…not really," admitted Ron. "Ginny just ran in here crying," Harry explained. "Really?" "What do you think happened?" "Jacob Lavanin probably broke up with her," Ron muttered referring to Ginny's boyfriend. Harry twitched. Jacob was a tall blonde with blue eyes and he was popular. Harry had seen him in the halls. Jacob walked casually in a cool way. He could see why he was popular. He could make anyone feel at home. Jacob had taken an interest in Ron's little sister and asked her out. She said yes, of course. Who wouldn't say yes? "Are you sure it's nothing more serious?" asked Harry. Ron shrugged. "Like what?" he asked setting up the chess pieces. "I dunno…" "That's probably it." "Oh." "I wouldn't get all concerned." "I was just wondering." Ron glanced at Harry and then shook his head. "Do you--? No…that's a…no," Ron muttered. "What?" "I was just pondering something." "Like what?" "Well, do you like Ginny?" "Sure I do." "No. I mean, have a crush on her?" "No! What got that idea into your head?!" "Just thinking. That's all." "I don't! She's like a sister to me!" "Okay. Okay. Don't get all mad or anything." Harry looked towards the girl's dorm stairs and saw Hermione coming down. She caught Harry's eye and shrugged. She took a seat next to him and Ron. "I don't get her. Really I don't," she explained. "Well, what's wrong with Ginny?" asked Harry. "She broke up with Jacob," Hermione mumbled. "What do you mean?" asked Ron suddenly becoming interested. "Don't you mean he dumped her?" Hermione shook her head. "No. Ginny dumped Jacob. I don't understand why she's crying. She dumped the hottest guy in the school," murmured Hermione. Ron's ears turned red for some reason. "Why'd she break up with him?" inquired Harry. "She said she just didn't feel right," Hermione mumbled. "What do you mean?" Ron asked. "She said that her heart wasn't really in the relationship. She just didn't like him that way," explained Hermione. Ron elbowed Harry. "See? Ginny still likes you," Ron hissed. Harry frowned. He didn't like her in that way. "Why was she crying?" asked Harry ignoring Ron's remark. "See…that part is the part I'm confused about. She really wasn't sure if she did the right thing," Hermione muttered. Ron snickered. "What?" Harry asked. "She likes you!" Ron whispered. "What if I got her someone new?" Harry asked once again ignoring Ron's comment. "What do you mean?" asked Hermione. "What if I set her up?" inquired Harry. "With who?" Hermione asked. "Himself!" Ron chirped. Harry rolled his eyes. "I dunno. Maybe she'd like whoever we picked better than Josh," Harry suggested. "It's Jacob," corrected Hermione. "Harry, that sounds a little risky to me. She should be able to find her guy herself." "Yeah well, Harry wants to set himself up," Ron joked. "Just shut up Ron!" warned Harry not even looking at Ron. "Yeah really. What is his problem?" Hermione asked eyeing Ron. "He thinks I like Ginny," Harry mumbled. Hermione shrugged. "If you don't, you don't. Anyway, who would you set her up with?" Hermione asked. Harry shrugged. "Actually--," Ron started. "Don't say what think you're going to!" threatened Harry. "No. I'm not going to say that you like Ginny, but I think it sounds kind of fun to set her up. Especially with someone she hates," Ron said. "That's not the point, Ron! We're supposed to set her up with someone who she likes!" scolded Hermione. "But aren't we kind of toying with her feelings?" "Not really. I mean, we're just trying to make her happier," Harry explained. "I dunno…" Hermione murmured. "Oh! Come on, Herm!" pleaded Ron. "It'll be fun!" "Don't call me Herm!" Hermione exclaimed. "Fine, whatever. Can't we just set up Ginny?" asked Ron. "We would have to make a decent choice," mumbled Hermione. "What would he have to be like?" "He'd have to have green eyes, black hair, glasses--," Ron started. "Ron!" Harry exclaimed. "and a lightning bolt scar," finished Ron. Harry glowered. "Don't worry. I know that you don't like Ginny! That would be hilarious!" "Anyway!" Hermione continued. "What Ginny needs is some polite that always thinks of her, is willing to listen, not always so jumpy, funny, and every girl needs someone attractive. Of course, it's slim pickings around here." Hermione cast a weary glance at the boys in the common room. Ron cleared his throat. "Someone in the Gryffindor house probably. Should it be someone in her year?" "Probably. If we can't find anyone in her year, I guess we'll have to go with our year," Harry mumbled. "Like someone named Har--!" started Ron. "Don't even think about it, Ron!" Harry exclaimed raising a fist. Ron cringed. "Okay. Okay…" Ron wailed. "So, do you wanna do it, Hermione? Do wanna match up Ginny?" asked Ron eagerly regaining his confidence. Hermione looked from Harry to Ron. "Fine…we still have to respect Ginny though," Hermione muttered. "Oh yay! Can we match her up with Neville?!" Ron asked. "No!" Hermione and Harry chorused. Ron's smile faded. "Well, of course Ginny lover and know-it-all would say no," he mumbled.
