It is mainly about H/G...but a teeny bit of R/h will be included...I can't just forget my favorite couple now can I? I really think this will turn out as a good series...so R&R thanks!!! D/C: None of the characters or settings belongs to me. I do own the theme and our characters crazy oncoming thoughts however. Simple Letters By: Ronluver The clock chimed 12 midnight. Harry Potter sighed...it was now his birthday and he was officially fifteen. FIFTEEN! Still, he didn't feel fifteen; he felt more like seven to be honest. He was alone, no one to talk to and it hurt him alot, more then Harry would like to admit. Harry hadn't received anything from his friends all summer, with the exception of a hasty scribbling from Sirius. The Dursley were being more horrible then usual this year, possibly because they were still paying for the repair of their fireplace, or because of Dudley's tongue incident. Whatever it was for, they were being just horrible. Either forgetting to feed him lunch sometimes, or making him do housework all through dinner. Harry had been too exhausted these past months to get little, if any, homework completed. He walked over to his window and looked out...nothing. Sighing he sat down on the bed, lapsing farther into his depression. He was so absorbed in his present thoughts that he failed to notice a small owl swoop silently into his room and land on the bed. Harry decided he should sleep on everything and leaned backwards to lie down, but sat bolt upright as a tiny talon dug into his back. "Ouch! What th- Pig!" There was Pig, Ron's owl lying on Harry's bed looking tired and slightly flattened. Harry scooped up the tiny owl and cradled it in his hands. "Do you have a letter for me from Ron?" The owl lifted a leg and gave a feeble hoot. Harry placed Pig in Hedwig's now empty cage and gave him some water; then he slipped the letter off his leg and sat down to read. He was shocked to find that the handwriting was not large and untidy, but small and neat like a girl's would be. Harry sat puzzled over this for a moment, but decided to read on anyway. Dear Harry, I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to you. Look, I know with everything that's happening you may be a little overwhelmed, so feel free to write me whenever you need to. I hope you can come over later in the summer and get yourself away from those horrible Dursely's. Hermione may come as well, but right now she is in Bulgaria I believe, and won't be back until August 12. So Happy Birthday again Harry and... Sincerely, Ginny Harry mouth dropped open. Ginny? Ginny had written him a letter. Well, that was surprising. Harry decided the only logical thing to do would be to write her back of course. He settled at his desk and positioned his quill to write, but then he hesitated. It suddenly occurred to him that he had never said more then five sentences to Ginny the whole time he had known her, so what could he possibly write to her about? Still, she had written him a whole letter AND for his birthday besides. For some reason this made Harry feel special…really special. More special then when he caught the snitch for the Championship even. Setting his doubts aside he started to write. Ginny, Thanks for the letter. It was just what I needed. I have been really lonely this summer and the Durselys are being more horrible then usual. I think they are still mad, because your Dad blasted apart their fireplace. I thought it looked better broken personally, but they don't seem to share my opinion. Well, I hope I will get to see you guys this summer too, please keep asking! If I can get away from here I will be beyond happy. Thanks again Ginny, and tell Ron I said Hi. Harry Harry didn't know whether he should put From Harry, or even Love Harry, but he decided on a plain Harry, so not to push anything that wasn't even there, and sent it off with a more revitalized Pig. Harry watched him fly off, and then climbed into bed. He smiled slightly and thought that his summer was finally going to be somewhat enjoyable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Chapter ( 2 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Simple Letters and Complicated Words Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. Thanks for any reviews I got, and any that I'm going to get.... read on.... Simple Letters and Complicated Words By: Ronluver Ginny Weasley opened her eyes and blinked slightly form the sun. It was eight in the morning, but the sun was so bright coming in her room that it seemed like noon to her. Ginny stretched and sat up placing her feet on the hardwood floor softly. She put on her bathrobe and padded down the hall to the bathroom. Ginny was always an early riser, well compared to the rest of her family that is. Fred and George got up at 10 and Ron got up a noon, sometimes one. Ginny passed by both of their rooms and chuckled at the sounds of soft snoring coming from them. She got to the bathroom and washed her face, then began to brush her hair softly. Ginny looked at her reflection when she was finished and decided that she was cute. This was not vanity, Ginny hated vain people, but Ginny thought that she was good looking and didn't see a reason not to think so. "I wish Harry could say that." Ginny mumbled through a mouth full of toothpaste. "Wish Harry could say what?" Questioned a sleep voice from the doorway. Ginny turned to find Ron standing there, looking bleary eyed and tousled haired. He rubbed his eyes and stepped into the bathroom. Once Ginny got over the shock of him being there she said (Without the toothpaste), "Why are you up so early Ron?" "Want to write a letter to Hermione." He said quite calmly. Ginny glanced at him then said with slight amusement, "But Ron she's -- in Bulgaria." Ron stiffened slightly and grabbed at the toothpaste with unnecessary force. "I know that Ginny." He said through gritted teeth, "but I just want to see how she is and---" "Find out exactly what she's doing with Krum?" Ginny interrupted him quickly. Ron whirled on her; his face flushed and his eyes blazing, "Get out Ginny! Just GO!" He said hurling a towel at her. Ginny ran out and down the hall until she reached her room. Laughing hard, she flung herself on the bed, panting for breath and laughing quietly. She stared at the ceiling for a few moments in thought. "At least Ron likes Hermione.... I'm pretty sure she could, might, or even does like him back. Why doesn't Harry like me though...sure I'm not Cho Chang...." Ginny sighed and continued thinking, "Well.... I'll just make him like me then. I'll talk to him and spend some time with him this summer. Let him get to know the real Ginny Wesley, the one behind the blush...." Ginny was interrupted once more from a faint flapping of wings and some slightly crazed hooting coming form her windowsill. "Pig!" Ginny leapt off the bed and grabbed at him. He fluttered just out of her reach for quite some time, annoying her greatly. She finally caught him tightly in her palm and tore off the letter around his leg. She released him with a triumphant "HA!". He flew quickly from the room probably afraid he was going to be chased again. Ginny ripped open the letter and read it quickly, scanning down until she reached the signature. When she read the untidy Harry at the bottom, she squealed and did some sort of happy twirl. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron, who was in his room at the time, heard Ginny yell and figured some band, was on WWN (Wizarding Wireless Network). He shook his head and went back to his letter to Hermione. He had been struggling with it for the past week. He didn't know what to write; for fear that Victor Krum may be reading over her shoulder. But...that may be a good thing. If Ron poured his heart out in the letter then Vicky may back off.... "Hmmm....." Ron whispered, "That may work...." So he wrote, and rewrote many times. Here is what he finally finished... Hermione, Hi, how is your summer going? Is Bulgaria as nice as Vicky, I mean Victor claims it to be? I suppose you have done all your homework, well you must have done it because there would be so many interesting things in Bulgaria to write about. Ok Hermione.... that was mean...sorry. Are you reading this alone? Well if you're not (Victor over your shoulder there) I suggest you do so now.... Ok look Hermione; I'm sorry for being so mean and distant this summer. It's just that I hate the idea of you with Victor. Maybe because he's a Qudditch player or because he's ALOT older than you are.... but mainly because of the way he looks at you I think. That may sound retarded, but its the truth. He stares at you way to intently, like he's trying to see through you or something. It seems like his eyes just bore into you. He never looks happy always dark and brooding like. He is just too intense...it's creepy sometimes. Besides he's form DURMSTRANG! You know what they teach there...heck Malfoy was going to go! Sure he said he hated it, but that's because of Karoff. I don't like their type, what they learn either. To put it more plainly...I DON'T LIKE HIM! Sorry for that Hermione but that is seriously how I feel. You may want to kill me mow but I'm still asking you over this summer. Come whenever you want it doesn't matter. We are trying to get Harry over too, but it hasn't been easy. Your friend, Ron Ron had a strange urge to put Yours, Ron but decided against it. He would have to be crazy after what he had written in this letter. Still he felt that he should tell her how he felt and since he couldn't say it directly to her face, a letter was the next best way. Sure the letter was simple enough, but their later words were going to get really complicated, Ron was sure of that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ « Previous Chapter ( 1 ) Next Chapter ( 3 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Simple Letters and Complicated Words Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. Barked Vernon Dursley. Everyone had just sat down to lunch, when the doorbell rang. Harry, who had just sat down, was forced out of his chair by Uncle Vernon, and walked reluctantly to the door. He opened it without asking who was there, slightly hoping it was someone, who could maybe hurt the Durselys, even if it was only a robbery. Harry jumped back in surprise when he saw who was on the other side of the door.... it was Dumbledore. "Headmaster!" He gasped, "What, How?" "Good afternoon Harry. May I come in please?" "Certainly," Harry stepped aside to let him in. Just then Aunt Petunia came running from the kitchen, "Who are you letting in Har--" She stopped her scolding dead when she saw Dumbledore. She put a hand over her mouth and yelled "Vernon!!! It's one of THEM!!!!" Harry winced as Uncle Vernon's heavy footsteps flew into the hall, "Is it that blasted red haired one again?" "No." Said Dumbledore quite calmly, ' I am Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, Harry's school. I have come to take him over to his friend Ronald Weasley's house. By your red haired term I assume you have met them?" Uncle Vernon just growled deep in his throat but Aunt Petunia answered quite rudely, "Oh yes we met that lot. Bunch of maniacs they were." "Well, red hair does effect the brain at certain times, but I assure you Harry will be quite safe with them." "Harry was not our concern, it was our Dudley they were after." Petunia shot at him, "Trying to suffocate my baby they were!" "That may be, well since Harry safety is not your main concern, may I be off with him then." "Yes." Growled Uncle Vernon, "Go pack up your.... your trunk Harry." Harry beamed at Dumbledore and ran for his things. In two seconds he was back and out the door. "Thank you Headmaster!" He said quickly. "No need Harry, no need. Before you ask, I will tell you that I came to get you because of Voldemort. You see he is getting very strong, quite fast and you need to be around magical beings at all times. Understood?" Harry shook his head, "Is that why I'm going to the Weasley's so early?" "Well no. You were perfectly safe at your house, charms and whatnot. I just thought you would have more fun with them." Dumbledore glanced at Harry, his eyes twinkling, "That is right, yes?" "Correct, sir. All I did at the Dursley's was work." "Well now you may play, here we are." Harry gasped; they were standing on the Weasley's front lawn. "Professor...how did we...." "Shhh..... Little secret charm I created. Now, come along." Dumbledore walked up to the Weasley's door and rang the bell. It was flung open moments later by Fred Weasley, who gasped in shock and then suddenly fell to his knees in front of Dumbledore. Clasping his hands together he said, "Please Headmaster, don't… don't expell me! I didn't mean to use magic this morning on George! Honestly I didn't.... my wand just slipped, mind of its own it has. The frog might have jumped into his cereal on its own you know." Dumbledore smiled widely and said with slight laughter in his voice, "Get up Fred, I not expelling you." "You're...you're NOT!" Fred said scrambling to his feet. "Of course not Mr. Weasley, I couldn't. We are going to need your pranks this year, I'm sure of it. Now may I please come in?" "Yes, certainly Professor." Dumbledore stepped in the doorway, revealing Harry for the first time. Fred's eyes widened, "Harry! Why Headmaster, did you know he was following you!" "Honestly Fred!" Barked Percy from the doorway, "Dumbledore has brought him here, as an ESCORT!" "Oh...OH!" Fred said, realization finally dawning on him, "Well then, I'm off, must practice you know."Then Fred whipped outside, mainly so he wouldn't have to speak to Percy any longer. "Hello Percy." said Dumbledore, "Where are your parents?" "Father is at the Ministry, but Mother is in the kitchen now." "Excellent. Harry go find Ron, I will inform Molly that you are here." "Ok, thank you again Headmaster." "As I said before Harry, no need." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny had been watching from the stairs and quickly ran down, before Harry could go up. "Hey Ginny." He said warmly. Ginny gazed at him for a moment but snapped back fairly quickly. "Hi Harry." She said a little too softly. She cleared her throat and said, "Ron is upstairs, but his door is uh...locked, so I think you should wait before you try and go in." Harry glanced at her a little sharply but said, in the same warm tone, "Is he alright?" "Fine, fine..." Ginny's voice got a little higher, "Just writing a letter I think...doesn't want to be interrupted you know." "Well in that case, "said Harry flopping down on the couch, "Tell me all about your summer so far Ginny, so we can pass some time." Ginny obeyed, sitting in a chair across from him, and immediately started talking. Harry was only half-listening, not from boredom though...he was studying Ginny. Taking her in, you could say. Noticing little things, like how she used her hands when she talked, and that she had a small dimple in her left cheek. Ginny noticed that Harry's eyes were watching her, not her speaking. He was looking at her.... gazing at her even! Ginny got a little flustered here and stopped speaking suddenly. "Well Harry, enough about my summer then, tell me how yours was won't you?" Harry blinked, "Wha-- oh my summer. Ok then." And he was off, completely absorbed in talking to Ginny for the next half an hour at least. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron meanwhile was reading the letter he had just received from Hermione. He had read it about six times already, and her words still echoed in his head. She had started with a biting retort to his honesty about Victor, but softened considerably toward the end of the letter. Ron picked it up one more time and read: Ron, Hello. My summer has been very good, but contrary to your firm belief I have not been spending it all with Victor. In fact I've only spent about a week with him, he's been touring for Qudditch this summer. I have finished my homework, and done more than necessary, because unlike you Ron I care if I succeed or not. I also have been pronounced a Prefect; one of the school owls reached me yesterday. Are you a Prefect Ron...no I guess not. Are you reading this alone Ron? Well if you're not...start now! Ok...look, although I do not agree with your feelings toward Victor, I do respect them. I am very happy that you were honest with me, and not being an annoying, immature, jealous, yes J-E-A-L-O-U-S, git. Although I am still slightly mad at you for the letter, I am coming over this summer, around August 10th. We are coming home early because my parents have an important Dental Convention to get to. Besides I look forward to seeing Ginny and everyone else. Have you spoken to Harry, I never managed to get a letter to him? I'm so worried about him, with everything he's going through. We really have to pull together and help him this summer and this year Ron. We really have to cool it with our arguments, Harry needs us now and it won't work if we are mad at one another will it? I promise not to fight with you, IF you promise not to start it! With all that said...let's start new Ron ok? Who knows what's going to happen this year, and I want to make sure that I have people I can depend on for help, and people that can depend on me. That means you and Harry. You guys can always depend on me, I just hope I can depend on you. I know that Harry is a definite, but are you Ron? Sometimes I'm not so sure. P.S. Don't write back, we'll discuss the letter when I get to your house later on ok? Hermione Ron folded the letter neatly and placed it on his desk. Of course she could count on him! Ron would do anything for her and Harry. She should know that.... well, maybe his jealous last year had contradicted this but....deep down he knew that Hermione knew he would always help her when she needed. "Ron! Harry's HERE!" Mrs. Weasley's voice broke his thoughts. Ron got up and smiled slightly.... he couldn't wait for their conversation later this summer. With that thought he bounded down the stairs to greet Harry. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: Well that was an interesting letter. Hermione is coming in the next part. Why was Harry suddenly noticing all those little things about Ginny...the next part may clue you in some more. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ « Previous Chapter ( 2 ) Next Chapter ( 4 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Simple Letters and Complicated Words Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. So far, I think this one had the most happening in it. I don't want to reveal anything....so you'll see when you read it!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry woke up the next morning earlier than usual. He gently slipped out of Ron's room, so not to wake him up. He went down the stairs and peeked in....no one seemed to be up yet. He walked into the kitchen and ducked as a knife went whizzing past his head. "Oh! Harry dear!" Molly Weasley exclaimed, "I'm so sorry, stupid wand!" Harry took a deep breath and said quite breathlessly, "Its ok, Mrs. Weasley...really." "You up early dear, everything ok?" "Oh...fine, just not tired I guess." Harry said simply. "Well, why don't you go into the garden? Fresh air will do you some good I believe." Harry nodded and decided to do just that. He walked out into the backyard thinking to himself. He walked over to the small garden and sat down on one of benches. The Weasley may have had a crammed house, but their land was enmorus. He had been sitting their for quite some time, not really thinking or anything, when he heard someone come out. He hoped it wasn't Fred or George, he wasn't in the mood for jokes. He even hoped it wasn't Ron, he didn't want to talk right now either. To his surprise, it was Ginny. She slipped outside and made her way silently over to one of the large oak trees, about fifty feet from where Harry was. She sat down beneath it and pulled out a small book. She began to read and seemed lost to everything else. Harry had been watching her the whole time she did this, and Ginny was completely unaware. Harry watched as she softly turned the pages, and how the sun played across her face. She was partly shadowed by the tree and the sun was only hitting her hair, making it stand out even more. Harry sat there in silence, just watching her, seeing how she moved and reacted. He didn't know why, but watching Ginny gave him a warm peaceful feeling inside. Sitting under the tree like that, Ginny looked peaceful and gentle to him. He suddenly wanted to go sit with her, and feel peaceful too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Well, well, well George will you look at that...." "What?" George asked Fred, "What happened, did a gnome take a fit?" "No you prat! Look...in the yard...Harry and Ginny." "What, what are they doing out there? Their not....?" "NO! Stupid...look will you?" "What? Ginny is reading and Harry is sitting on a bench...." "Watching her George! Look at how he's staring!" "Ooh! Now I think I see it..." "You think? Auughhh George, you're almost as think as Ron! Come on then, lets go have a Game of Exploding Snap." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Ginny?" Harry asked standing over her. "Hmm...OH! Harry!" She said startled, looking up. She snapped her book shut and sat up slightly, "What's up Harry?" "Oh nothing, I was watching you, well, I uh, mean I saw you reading and decided to come over and umm...say hi." He finished, annoyed at his flustered sentence. "Oh, umm sure, sit down Harry." Ginny said in a surprised tone. She moved over so he could sit beside her. He sat down gently, and leaned against the tree. After five minutes of silence, Harry decided to start a conversation, just so the silence would end itself. "So, Ginny, what were you reading?" Ginny pulled out the book, "Oh this? It's a muggle stoey actually. Called Little Women. Hermione lent it to me, over owl post. It's quite good really." Harry knew of the book, but declined in saying so. He wanted Ginny to talk more. He could never carry on conversations like this with Ron. It was a nice change from Quidditch talk. "So, what's it about?" "Oh well, these girls, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy are...." and Ginny was off. She explained the whole story to Harry fromm beginning to end, since she had just finished it this morning. Harry wasn't bored, in fact he was quite interested. Ginny told the story with such expression, that it seemed almost real. She got teary eyes in certain parts, and once almost started bawling. Harry had the sudden urge to reach out and wipe away her tears. He never did though, he would never do that to a girl. Well Ginny anyway. He didn't know WHY he wouldn't do it though..... Their converation was interrupted by a loud horn beeping. Ginny stopped talking and Harry jumped. He got up and saw a car parked in the Weasley's driveway. He saw a girl with bushy hair get out and he realized after a moment or two, that Hermione had come. "Its Hermione Ginny, come on." and without realizing he held out his hand for Ginny, to help her up. Ginny hsistated, then softly palced her hand in his, and he pulled her up. Harry had done this all faced the other way, beacause he was watching as Ron came flying out of the house to greet Hermione. Once Ginny was on her feet, Harry turned to her and said "Come on lets say hi." Ginny glanced down at their still clasped hands. Harry followed her gaze and once he realized what whe was loooking at, let her go quickly. He kept his hand still for about half a second, just looking at it, then walked quickly over to Ron, leaving Ginny behind. Ginny, however was too busy trying to regain feeling in her hand. Harry Potter had actually held her hand. HER HAND! Even to help her up, but still it was a start..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron raced from the house when he saw Hermione pull up in her parents car. By the time he made it outside, she was already out of the car. Ron screeched to a halt on his porch, taken aback by her appereance. She was very tan, and her hair was pulled back different somehow. It was still bushy however. Ron smiled at this and finally walked over. "Hi Hermione." he said warmly, if somwhat shaky. "Hello Ron." She said back with a distant coolness in her voice. Ron looked at her with a slightly pained expression in his blue eyes. Hermione noticed this and half smiled at him. Ron, however, returned that with a large grin. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Granger." he said politely. "Why hello Ron. My, you've gotten tall!" Mrs. Granger exclaimed. "Hello there." said Mr. Granger in a rather stiff voice. "How are you?" "Uh..." Ron floundered at the look on Mr. Granger's face, "Fine....sir." Mr. Granger smiled suddenly, "Good then boy. Well, Hermione dear, we'll be off, owl us whenever you can." With a smile to Hermione and another stern look at Ron, he left. Ron stared round at Hermione, "What was that? I take it that your father doesn't like me much?" Hermione giggled suddenly, which was something she rarely did, "Oh no...its not you personally. I just think its boys in general, you know, he had a hard time accepting that his only daughter is growing up." "Oh?" "Well, yes, and VIctor didn't help matters much..." said Hermione, more to herself than Ron. Ron raised his eyebrows high at this statement, trying to figure out exactly what Victor had done to offend Mr. Granger. One possibility stood out quite clearly in his mind.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "HERMIONE!" It was Ginny tearing across the lawn to her. "Hey Ginny." Hermione said happily, she and Ginny had grown quite close this past summer. "The book was just wonderful..." "Yes, isn't it though...I mean...." And they were off, completely ignoring Ron, and now Harry who had just come from the yard. Harry was looking strange, and preoccuped to Ron. Looks sort of like I feel, Harry does, Ron thought to himself." "Girls." was all he said however, "Girls, Harry....they are just plain WEIRD!" Harry just looked at him, and they went inside for lunch. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lunch was a strange affair. Everyone was silent, well Ron and Harry were. The girls didn't shut up, going on and on about nearly everything! Lunch seemed to last forever to Ron, who just wanted to go outside and play some Qudditch. Harry was lost in thought about last year, and everything that had happened. Each time he thought about it, it got easier somehow, but it still brought a sharp stab of pain to his scar, and his heart. He hated thinking of Cedric, and what more he could have done for him....it hurt Harry alot. Harry knew that this was something that should be thought of in a quieter, more islotated place. Certainly not a crowded lunch table, where he was surrounded by his friends. Hermione seemed to tap into Harry's thoughts, "Harry? Are you ok? You kinda zoned out on us." Harry shook his head, "No...I'm fine. Really, I'm Fine." Harry got up and walked out into the garden again. Ron got up to follow him, but Hermione stopped him, "No, Ron, let him go out alone for a few minutes. I think he was thinking about last year." Ron looked at her silently, but sat back down, "Want a game of chess then?" "OK." Hermione answered back. Those two left for the living room, leaving Ginny staring out the window at Harry, who was sitting under that tree they were under before, with his head in his hands. He was actually working furiously to keep from crying, today it was hurting more than usual, and fifteen year olds did NOT cry. Ginny sighed as she watched him, he looked so lonely. Even this morning his face had been paler than usual. "Mom? What are we supposed to do?" Ginny asked somewhat timidly. "Well, nothing right now Ginny. He needs to work on it, on his own right now. But, I suggest you do try ans spend time with him dear.....give him some company. Why don't you tell Ron and Hermione that sweetie?" Ginny nodded, and with one last look at Harry, went to tell them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: The ending.....for now!!! Much more action to come I promise. The next part will be....dun dun dun dun....R/H's TALK!!! Plus a little more H/g conversation.....they will also be getting to Hogwarts sometime soon I suppose. Ok, the last part revealed a little more on the emotions part...now we are going to get into more troubled deeper things. It is now August 20th and Ron and Hermione have never spoken about the letter at all. Harry and Ginny on the other hand, have spoken alot this summer. Although nothing serious was discussed.... yet. It is nighttime now, and our fav four are all outside...talking.... Simple Letters and Complicated Words By: Ronluver Harry was sitting on the Weasley's back porch, on their swinging bench, gazing at the stars. He was lost to the world at that moment, and didn't notice Ginny seat herself beside him. She watched him for a few moments then said softly, "Harry? Are you...OK?" Harry swiveled around to face her, a little too quickly. He had been startled out of his reverie, by the soft voice, and knew instantly who it was. Ginny was the only person he knew with a voice like that. Soft, and sweet, like she really cared about whatever, or whomever she was talking to. Harry sighed inwardly then said, "Hey Ginny." Ginny smiled slightly in return, the dimple in her left cheek, vaguely appearing, "Are you OK Harry?" she asked again. Harry looked at the stars for a long moment and then answered, without looking at her, "Not...not really." He said it so softly that Ginny barely heard him. "Do you...want to talk about it Harry?" she probed gently. Maybe, maybe he would open up to her.... Harry was silent, then he burst out forcefully, suddenly, and "Do you believe in fate Ginny?" Ginny was taken aback by this sudden question, but she answered truthfully, "Well, on certain terms, yes I do." "Well I don't." "Why Harry?" Harry stared at her, an amazed expression on his face, "Was it fate for my parents to die Ginny? Was it fate for me to be The Boy Who Lived? Was it fate for most of the magical world to be in danger because Voldemort couldn't kill me!" Harry stopped here and drew a long breath. Ginny stayed silent. Harry put his head in his hands, and said in regret filled voice, "Ginny.... was it fate for Cedric to die because of me? Was that FATE Ginny?" Ginny gasped loudly, "Harry don't even talk like that! Cedric's death was an accident. Harry you know that! As for your parents, they died Harry, to let you live. You didn't put the magical world in danger either." Harry looked up at her, "I didn't?" "Harry! Of course you didn't! All that was Voldemort's doings! Why he wanted to kill your father I don't know, or why in the world he is after you either. But Harry, none of this is your fault. They were causalities that couldn't be helped! I don't want to hear you blame yourself for those things again Harry!" Ginny said earnestly grabbing onto Harry's wrist. Harry didn't look over at her. He couldn't. Tears had sprung to his eyes, and he would rather face another Horntail, than let someone see him crying. Especially Ginny. He never got the chance however, because at that moment.... SLAM Ginny and Harry turned quickly and watched as Ron nearly ran out into the garden, fists clenched and face slightly red. He looked angry.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron slammed the patio door shut and ran out into the backyard, in a blind furry. Flying into the garden he began to pace back and forth, talking to himself. "Fred and George, had no right to...to do that! They had no right NO RIGHT to embarrass me that way, or to make those accusations!" Ron said slamming his fist into his other palm. He then took refuge on the nearby bench, roughly putting his head in his hands. He stared at the stars, not really thinking, yet his mind was racing. Fred and George and their stupid sayings! Looke Fred....Ronnikinns is trying to..." AUUGGHHHH! Ron didn't even want to think about it. He went back to staring blindly at the stars, not noticing them, or Harry and Ginny who were only about ten feet from him. Ten minutes later Hermione came out into the yard. She glanced around for Ron, still not spotting Harry and Ginny. She noticed him on the bench and started to walk over. As she came closer she noticed how furious he still looked. His mouth was set in a firm line, and his eyes were clouded. She sat down beside him, and he looked up quickly. His ears turned slightly pink, but he said quite sadly "Hello." Hermione took heart, Fred and George has embarrassed him after all, "Hey Ron, don't listen to your brothers..." she started. "They're right though." Hermione stared at him, "Right? About what? Me...or..." "Not you. Me. I....I never know when to back off." he said somewhat reluctantly. Hermione smiled slightly, "Well that's true." Ron looked at her sharply. "You're not mad at me, but I was, so.... so..." "Rude. I know but remember my letter. I'm trying not to get mad at you. It really is hard though..." To her amazement Ron laughed and said, "Yea well I'm not the cheeriest person when it comes to Krum." "I've noticed. You know, I was serious in the letter." "So was I" Ron interrupted. "No, I mean I was serious about talking about it with you in person. Like say...right now." "Oh." Ron said looking at the ground, "Oh, ok...well talk." Hermione rolled her eyes, but started talking anyway, "You know Ron, as much as I disliked your letter, I did respect you for writing it and not being a jealous prat." Ron snapped his head up, "I was not---" "YES. You were jealous...but.... you were also.....right." Hermione said slowly, biting her lip. Ron's eyebrows rose slightly at her statement. "I was right? Me? Are you sure that I was right...." "Yes, Ron believe me you were." Ron opened his mouth to tease her but shut it after he started to think about what it was he could be right about. His eyes grew slightly larger, as his mind began to race, but he asked quickly, "Why? What was I right about Hermione?" Hermione didn't look at him when she spoke, "Almost everything." "Everything about..." "Victor! Everything about him Ron! His eyes, that looking thing.... I don't know how you...." Ron cut her off as he slapped his hand over his eyes, "Oh god" he moaned, and "I was right about that I didn't really mean.... WAIT! I was right about that! Then he must've, did he...if he!" Ron stuttered in a growing rage. Hermione just nodded her head, "Well he sort of..." Ron sat bolt upright, "He sort of what? What did he do to you Hermione?" "Well, he sort of.... tried to.... well, he wanted.... Uh...kiss me." Hermione floundered, but finished in a bare whisper. Ron's eyes suddenly blazed up like bonfire might have. Hermione swore she could see a faint reflection of flames inside them.... His voice was soft, almost deadly, "He...WHAT!" "He tried to kiss me Ron! Are you deaf!" "No. But how, why, when? What did you do?" "Well it started in his house, we were looking at his Quidditch trophies, when he just.... started to play with a strand of my hair." Hermione blushed and demonstrated with her fingers, "Like this...and then he sort of moved his hand to my shoulder...." Ron was watching her transfixed, slightly confused here. "Then he turned me around, so I was facing him, and then he just sort of... leaned in closer, you know, like this." Hermione demonstrated by leaning in forward towards Ron. Ron didn't move a muscle, but he said, "And then...." "And then he was about to kiss me, but I moved away. I...I didn't really want to kiss him...." Ron's face relaxed and he moved slightly away from her, saying nothing. Hermione looked over at him, weighing his reaction of what she was about to ask, "Hey...Ron?" "Yeah?" "Do you think, well was it.... OK for me to move away like that. I mean I didn't want to hurt him. Its just he's so much older, and we couldn't really do.... I mean I was very uncomfortable and..." Ron glanced up at her; she was rambling now, "Hermione.... I guess it was OK. I wouldn't know personally of course, but my Mom says you should never do anything that makes you uncomfortable." "Your mom says that?" "Well yeah. And I suspect that will hold for kissing to ya know." Hermione laughed suddenly, "You know Ron, you're right...I'm not going to worry about it anymore, really I'm.... Ron look!" Hermione interrupted herself. "What?" "Harry and Ginny, Ron look..." "Yeah what about them?" "Well they're together, talking, and seem to be enjoying each others company. They really look like they are discussing something important." "Like us you mean?" Ron asked quickly, looking right at her. "Well.... you could say that I suppose...you know its getting chilly, I'm going in." Hermione answered him quickly. She wanted to get away from that look in his eyes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ She jumped up quickly and started toward the house. Ron silently followed her, and before she reached the door he said, "Hey.... her...her.... MIONE!" His voice stuck in his throat and he only managed to say the last part of her name. Hermione spun around quickly, her eyes wide with surprise, "What did you just call me Ron?" "Your name?" "No, you said Mione. No has called me that since...since..." "Since...?" "Well, since my Grandfather passed away. Mione was his special name for me. It was so shocking to hear you say it Ron." "Oh Hermione I'm sorry. I won't say it anymore, promise." "No, no no no no! Say it Ron, please say it. I want to be called it again." Ron smiled slightly. He had never really heard Hermione plead much before about anything... "OK then, from this point on you are known to me as Mione." "Deal." Hermione said, extending her hand to shake. Ron shook it for about to two seconds, then hastily pulled away. As the two went inside, they were both very much aware of the tingling in their hands. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry and Ginny had watched this whole spectacle from the porch bench. Harry found it quite confusing, but Ginny, ever the dreamer, found it romantic. "That was strange, wasn't it?" Harry asked Ginny. Ginny stared at him, how could he not see what had just taken place here? "Yea Harry, it certainly was...strange." She sighed, "Harry I'm going inside now, coming?" "In a minute. Oh and Ginny?" He asked as she neared the sliding door. "Yeah?" "Thanks alot for the talk..." Ginny smiled, "Anytime Harry." Then she disappeared, a little disappointed, but hopeful still. As for Ron and Hermione, they were both confused, Ron more so than Hermione, however. Ron had gone right upstairs to bed, but Hermione stayed down in the living room staring at the fire. "Well, I thought it was so...but honestly, who knew?" She smiled softly and went up the creaky stairs to bed. Ginny went up to her room, and looked out her window. Peering down, she saw Harry still sitting on that bench, lost to the stars again. Ginny sighed and shut her wind against the breeze. Climbing into bed she whispered, "Well I tried..." then she fell asleep. Harry sat outside for only a minute longer, thinking about his talk with Ginny. She was right, that he knew. He also knew that he could still feel the warm pressure of her hand on his wrist... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: JEEZ! I've been writing alot lately because of the snow. Yes..... another snowday for me!!! It just started snowing again, they're saying 8-14 inches, so I guess I'll be home tomorrow too. Oh well...lets get on with the story shall we? Now, the summer is over! Everyone is on their way to Hogwarts Express this morning. Harry has had a bad night and is extremely quiet. Ron is arguing with Fred at the moment and Hermione and Ginny are in Ginny's room. George is in the Twin's room as well... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Simple Letters and Complicated Words By: Ronluver Harry walked up the stairs, trying to get way from Ron, who was busy fighting with Fred at the moment. Something about earlier in the summer he supposed. As he passed Ginny's room he heard music coming from it. He stood outside and listened. It was clearly a Muggle song because; he picked through the keyhole, and spied Hermione singing along. Ginny was near her window and twirling around to the music. She was dancing to it, but very slowly...like ballet maybe. The last notes ended and Ginny finished with a slow spin, facing Hermione. "Wow Ginny! Where did you learn to dance like that?" "I took lessons when I was little, but then I just sort of...taught myself I guess. I've never had such a good song to dance to before. It's so beautiful! The words really touch me too." "I love this song myself. Since its Muggle, I can't play it at Hogwarts so I listen to it almost all summer." "What's it called?" "Reflection by Christina Aguleria." "Oh. Well never heard of her." "I never did either until last summer in France. You see I was--" Hermione was cut off by a knock on the door. It was Harry. "Hello, just wanted to say that we're leaving in half an hour ok?" Harry said. "Sure Harry alright." Hermione said hastily, Ginny was incapable of speech at the moment since Harry had caught her off guard. "By the way Ginny, I saw you dancing, very good." Harry said somewhat shyly, for him anyway. Ginny gasped, "You saw that! I can't...wait...I uh...thanks Harry." She said breathlessly. Harry smiled and walked on to Ron's room. Before he reached it however, he was grabbed by the arm and pulled into another room... the Twins. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny gasped again, when the door closed. Harry, Harry Potter had seen her dancing! Ginny never NEVER danced infront anyone...not even her brothers. She let Hermione see only because the song had taken her away and she never noticed Hermione there until afterwards. "Hermione? What... what... what just happened here?" "I believe," Hermione said through another fit of rare giggles, "that famous Harry Potter has just paid insignificant Ginny Weasley some notice." Ginny let out a small scream and jumped onto the bed, hugging Hermione quickly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Oyi! Harry, its only me George..." George said as he pulled Harry into the dark room. "George! Don't do that!" Harry said clutching his chest, his heart slowed down and he asked, "What?" "What do you think of these?" George said gesturing towards the desk. "Well umm, light may help..." "Oh OH! Here Harry...." George flipped a switch, "Now what do you think of them?" Harry was stunned. Lying on the desk were two dress robes, one a deep blue, the other a pale sea green. The green one was shorter and it seemed to be made of silk, somewhat like a mugle dress. The blue robe was plain, but nice considering. It looked just like Harry's did, only blue. "You really got it! Ron will love you for it." "Well, we figured it would be good after teasing him.... anyway do you think blue is good?" "As long as there is no lace and it's not maroon!" "Well then...its fine I think. But what about the green one?" George asked again. "Umm...that's not for Ron is it?" Harry asked slowly. "HARRY! NO! Its for Ginny you prat!" "Oh.... Well umm you should really ask Hermione for this sort of thing..." Harry said uncomfortably. "Fine, fine Harry. Thanks for the help with Ron's." Harry turned and left quickly, as he went down the stirs he heard, "Hey Hermione! Ginny come here!" They came, and minutes later Harry heard there excited approval over the dress robes as he descended the stairs. Mr. Weasley's caught up with him and said, "Come on now Harry out to the car." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry walked out to find two cars waiting. Everyone's luggage was packed and ready to go. Mr. Weasley was driving one, and Percy was driving the other. Ron had jumped in with his parents, but Fred slid in next to Percy.... just to annoy him. "Tart?" Fred persistently asked, but Percy refused each time. George came out followed by a smiling Ginny and smug looking Hermione. Harry slid in on one side of Ron and pulled Hedwigs cage onto his lap. "What are they on about?" Ron asked eyeing the girls. "Dunno..." Said Harry hoping to sound off-hand. Hermione slid in on Ron's other side, pressing in close to make room for Ginny. Ron scrambled farther over, nearly crushing Harry in his haste. He seemed uncomfortable with Hermione that close. "Well," said Ginny eyeing her brother, "Seems as if I won't fit, you can move back over Hermione." She said with slight amusement in her eyes. Then she went to Percy's car and got in the back with George. Harry watched her and suddenly felt rather disappointed. He wanted to go in the other car too, all of a sudden. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The drive there was quiet, except for the occasional Qudditch talk. Hermione was absorbed in one of their new spell books, and never looked up until the reached the station. "Everybody out!" Hermione still didn't move. Ron laughed and said, "Hey 'Mione.... come on you're gonna miss the train!" Hermione looked up quickly, "Oh my.. RON! You prat!" She said when she realized he was joking. Ron laughed again and started down the Platform. Fred and George went first, followed closely by Ron. Hermione still glaring at him, in a good way, followed behind. Harry was about to go, but Mrs. Weasley held him back. "Now Harry dear, if anything troubles you go straight to Dumbledore. Don't hesitate to inform me either.... or Sirius for that matter." "Yes. Mrs. Weasley." "Alright then off you go...have a good year!" "Ok…bye and thank you!" Harry said as he ran through the barrier. He was going too fast however, and crashed right into Ginny, knocking her to the floor. "Well I.... HARRY!" Ginny said looking up, "Watch where you're going next time will you?" "Sure Ginny," He grabbed her hand and pulled her up, "Sorry...won't happen again." He smiled at her, the first genuine smile he ever gave her, usually it was pity smile, or a look-its-Ron's-little-sister type smile. Not this one.... it was real. Ginny nearly melted onto the Platform planks, but regained herself, "Come-on Harry...let's board the train." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They boarded and went back to their usual compartment, but Ginny left to go sit with her fourth year friends. When Harry entered, he saw Ron sitting there...alone. "Where's Hermione?" Harry asked sitting down next to him. Ron stared stonily out the window; "She had to sit with the Prefects." He said drawing out Prefect, in a sacartastic tone. "Oh." was all Harry said, "Game of Exploding Snap?" "Why not." said Ron. That's what they did until the train pulled up to the castle. In between explosions they changed in to the Hogwarts robes, and got ready to exit the train. Again, like last year.... it was pouring outside. "Well wonderful way to start the year." Ron said, covering his head. "True...all too true mate!" Cried Dean and Seamus, running up to them. Hermione was following closely behind muttering, "Crazy weather..." Harry laughed out loud suddenly and pointed at the lake. A little first year had fallen in again, and poor Fang was trying to save him, much to Hagrid's distress. "NO! Fang, you stupid hound come 'ere..." They stood and watched until Peeves forced them in with Dungbombs. Soaking wet and shivering, they settled down to watch the Sorting. Harry looked around, but couldn't see the hat anywhere... Filch came running in at the same moment, "Dumbledore...sir.... the hat...it refuses to come and sort!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some students gasped loudly, others laughed, and the rest just sat there waiting for more. Dumbledore stood, "Really Filch? Well, well, well...we will see about this." Then he strode from the room, each Head of House following behind. "WOW!" Ron whispered excitedly, "This has never happened before!" "Yea.... hey Hermione? What do you make of this?" Harry asked. "Well, I think that it has to do with...." Hermione trailed off glancing at Harry. "With Voldemort you mean." Harry finished for her. She nodded as Ron cringed, "Don't SAY THE NAME!" He practically roared. Harry just shook his head, and went back to watching the door, waiting for Dumbledore ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After what seemed like forever, they came back. Dumbledore went up to the Staff Table and spoke loudly to the students, "Well it seems that our Hat is temporarily out of order, he--" "Was KIDNAPPED!" yelled Fred loudly. "No Mr. Weasley, it seems that our hat, "Dumbledore paused and smiled, "Has failed to come up with a song, and refuses to sort." "HE WHAT!" Yelled Fred, George, and Lee Jordan together. "Yes, and since that is the case, the Sorting will be put off momentarily till morning. Sorry first years, but you will be sleeping in the Great Hall tonight." All the little first years glanced at one another warily, seemingly not liking the arrangement. Ron gaped open mouthed at Harry and Hermione's eyes widened. Ginny put a hand over her mouth to stifle a laugh, while Fred and George just grinned. Everyone took this lightly so far, but Harry had a feeling that there was a reason the hat couldn't make up a song...and it wasn't good... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N! OK *Takes deep breath* Now, it is the next morning...we get a surprise and some...Er INFO on Rita Skeeter (A.k.a... Hermione's beetle).... READ N REVIEW!!! NICELY if you please.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry Hermione and Ron made their way down to the Great Hall for breakfast. Harry was amused at the sight of around fifty purple sleeping bags neatly stacked in the corner. Their occupants were currently enjoying breakfast at their own table since they had no houses as of yet. Harry and Ron sat down, immediately filling their plates, but Hermione refrained from doing so. "What?" Ron asked, through his bacon, "Afraid the house elves had to do to much work did you?" Although Hermione's eyes flashed dangerously at his comment, she kept her voice quite calm, "No Ron...I'm just.... thinking." "Bout what?" "Well...if you must know...I'm thinking about Rita Skeeter." Ron looked at her skeptically, "Why?" "Because, well the people at the Daily Prophet must be quite confused what with her missing and-" Hermione stopped as Harry choked back a laugh and Ron nearly gagged on his pumpkin juice, "You mean you still have her!" They said almost in unison. "Of course I do! Why wouldn't I, I said that-" "We know what you said, "Harry piped up quickly, "we just well, I mean come-on Hermione she is an adult and an Aminagus besides-" "So?" Hermione interjected, "She can't get out AND she promised to keep her stories clean when she does AND," Hermione paused quite dramatically, "She KNOWS I know that she is an illegal Animagus, so if she ever writes another untrue story I'll just go and inform Mr. Fudge, who will fire her of course." Ron goggled at her, clearly impressed. Harry however, had just seen Cho walk in and was distracted. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cho walked into the Hall silently, and alone which was unusual for her since she was quite popular. Her face was unreadable, but she just seemed sad. Everything about her looked lonely and limp, it was strange to see the bright bubbly Cho Chang that way, Harry thought. Then seconds later he mentally kicked himself, OF COURSE she looked sad! She had just lost Cedric hadn't she! Harry shrivered as he began to remember the events of that night, and the morning after...Cho with tears streaming down her face. She passed their table and glanced quickly at Harry, her face a wall. Harry shook his head to clear it, but it was only filled with more thoughts. Seeing Cho again had brought back a mix of emotions. One was, well, pleasant. It was that queasy feeling he always got when he saw her. The others were angry because she was grieving so much, and there was a faint glimmer of doubt, or maybe was it surprised? All Harry knew was that his feelings for Cho weren't those gut wrenching, heart stopping type of feelings they had been last year. Was there something wrong with him? Or was it just that Cho was so sad that he couldn't try to get her to like him now...or...maybe... Harry's thoughts stopped abruptly as he spied another figure walking in. It was Ginny Weasley. She walked in slowly, chatting amicably with one of her friends. She laughed suddenly and Harry smiled to himself. Ginny really did have a nice laugh.... nice smile too he thought without thinking. He gasped suddenly, realizing what he had just thought of, causing Ron to look at him strangely. "You OK Harry?" Harry searched for a distraction, not really wanting to tell Ron the REAL reason he had gasped, "Oh it's just umm... "The post owls are here!" Hermione interjected again. Harry smiled gratefully at her, and she smiled back, without Ron noticing however. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hedwig swooped down to him, with no letter unfortunately. "Oh…so you just came for food did you?" Harry asked. Hedwig chirped and opened her beak. Harry gave her the last of his bacon and she flew off nipping his finger affectionately. Ron hadn't received anything either, but Hermione apparently had. She was frantically tearing through a Daily Prophet magazine. "Whoa...slow down there." Fred Weasley spoke up for the first time, placing a hand over the page, "You're going to give the magazine indigestion you are." Hermione ignored him and stopped flipping suddenly, "Oh dear..." she trailed off. "What? What?" Ron asked anxiously trying to get a look. "Its.... oh dear.... I don't..." "What!" Ron asked again, pulling at the magazine. Being stronger then Hermione, he got hold of the magazine and began to read the article she had been "Oh dearing" over. His eyes widened as he read: He Who Must Not Be Named...Back? It has not been confirmed as of yet, but many are claiming of his return. Please avoid panicking readers, there is no immediate danger now. It is rumored that his last appearance was done at the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Please, do not be afraid, we are taking all necessary precautions, writes Tina Stone, Daily Prophet reporter. Although we do warn any Muggle-born personal to be careful please. We do not want the same reoccurrence of last year. We repeat all Muggle borns take care of yourselves, please do. If it is any comfort to you, reader, that Dumbledore is trying all he can to protect everyone, then well at least you know. Don't despair, as I have written we do not know if he is even back yet so...I urge you please...DO NOT PANIC! Ron threw down the paper in alarm; it was snatched almost immediately by Harry who skimmed it quickly, alarm raising in his throat. Ron was staring somewhat blankly at Hermione who was twisting her hands in her lap, "Well we knew...I mean Harry said that he was going to, that he did, has returned, and well we just have to.... I just...I just...." Hermione trailed off, fear claiming her vocal chords. Ron blinked and said softly, "Mione?" She looked up quickly at the sound of the nickname, "Yeah?" "I think...I think, that we just have to be careful...you know like the article says, besides if anyone ever-" "Ever..." George prompted during the pause. "Nothing George...come on guys were going to be late for Herbology." Ron said quickly, and with a touch of annoyance in his voice besides. They all got up and left, but Harry paused to say goodbye to Ginny. She smiled in return, her eyes surprised but happy. As they left the Great Hall Harry heard Fred say, "I told you George! Did I not tell you!" "What?" he responded, "I already knew that Ron was an over tempered annoying git." Fred slapped a hand over his eyes and moaned, "Oyi! Honestly George!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: DANGER!!! Oh the beginning of danger. READ!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry and Ron walked out of Transfiguration rather quickly that day. Professor Mcgonagall was particularly furious at Ron because he flatly refused to change his ladybug into a spider. He was preparing to walk out of the room, partly from fear but mostly anger at the Professor for embarrassing him in front of the class, when Hermione stepped up and volunteered to help him. "Well, Miss Granger.... since you are done," she had shot a glance at Ron, "fine then, but NO Socializing!" and she went back to grading her papers. Hermione banged her bag down on Ron's table and reached for wand, getting ready to say the spell. "Wait...don't." Ron said slightly panicked. "Ron, it's not going to hurt you." Hermione had said in a slightly annoyed, yet amused voice. "Ok...fine do the stupid spell then." Hermione performed it quickly, and seconds later the spider was sitting on the desk. Ron took a step backward (it looked more like a leap to Harry) and said shakily, "OK...ok, chan-change it back now." Hermione laughed, "Ron its not-" "Please! Please, Mione!" He said quickly using her nickname. Hermione did as he pleaded and Ron heaved a huge sigh of relief when the ladybug appeared again. He came back over to the table and began to pack up his bag, not looking at Hermione. Ears slightly pink he mumbled, "Thanks Hermione...you really saved me." Hermione smiled slightly at his bent head; "It was fine Ron really, no trouble at all. But don't worry, I'll think of a way for you to repay me." Ron looked up at her his eyes quizzical, but his usual grin in place, "K 'Mione...whatever you say." The bell rang and Harry and Ron left for lunch, leaving Hermione a little behind them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After lunch, as everyone clamored out into the Hall someone shouted, "Hey Potter!" Harry cringed...it was Draco Malfoy. "What?" He said, walking over Ron and Hermione right behind him. "See the article Potter...scared yet? No wait....Mudblood are you scared?" Harry and Hermione answered "No" just as Ron took a step towards Malfoy. "What Weasel...trying to protect them are you? All you can do is give me a bloody nose, which you may have to be fined for, knowing my father and all Weasel...and frankly, you can't even afford that can you?" Ron's face flushed at this comment and he remained silent. "Thought so. Anyway Potter...what has happened? You see I always said you should quit hanging out with--" "Shut up Malfoy!" Hermione said quickly. "You know Malfoy," Harry added, "You really do belong at Durmstrang, with that lot, you would really fit in there." "Yes, well, I guess I'll just have to improvise here won't I? You agree don't you Weasel? You've certainly had to do a lot of it in your life..." "What are you talking about Malfoy...if this is about my family I'll..." Ron took another step forward. "Well, you had to do a lot of it with your family yes, but now you've got to do it with HER too." He sneered, fixing his gaze on Hermione and smiling evilly. Hermione gasped and Harry whipped out his wand, but...too late. Ron had reached Malfoy and slammed him hard into the nearest wall, grabbing a firm grip on his collar. "Take it back Malfoy" He hissed. Malfoy just sneered more. "TAKE IT BACK!" Ron said pushing him harder into the wall, his face the very picture of anger. Malfoy's cold eyes flickered slightly, but he still seemed confident enough as he said, "Fine Weasel. Will you get off now?" He pushed Ron aside, but not easily, Ron was stronger than he looked. Ron was still seething, "Say another thing like that Malfoy and I won't just push you into a wall, I will push you through a wall." Malfoy chuckled coldly, "Please Weasel.... Is SHE really worth all those threats?" Ron made a move to go at him again, when Professor Flitwick came down the hall, "Boys! Miss Granger!" he added, "Fighting I presume. Well detention Mr. Weasley and Mr. Malfoy. Weasley with me, Malfoy you may go with Filch both two weeks from today. Now clear it up and go into the Great Hall. We are starting the sorting. Understand?" Hermione smiled gratefully at Flitwick, "Ok Professor." and grabbing Ron by the arm, steered him back into the Hall, Harry followed throwing nasty looks at Malfoy the whole way. When they had sat down, Ron whispered, "Stupid git, I hope that he gets crushed by some raging Hippogriff or something in Care of Magical Creatures." "Ron...calm down! It's over now, everything's fine." Hermione ordered, in a more tender voice then she usually used. "But a detention on the first day...Ron I'd be careful..." Harry began to warn him, until he caught sight of the hat. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The hat was out, sitting on its usual stool, but it looked different. Its tip was drooping downward and it seemed more frayed than was normal. Dumbledore stepped up, "First years, over here please. We will begin the Sorting." The first years rose, shaking slightly and walked toward the Hat. Everyone held their breath and waited for it to sing. Finally after about ten minutes it opened its brim and sang: Look at me and what do you see A depressed hat maybe? Yes, that's right I am depressed You see I'm afraid of the Dark Years to come All the fighting, plus no fun What will happen as the years go by? Which ones will live? And how will the rest die! The hat sang blithely, finishing in a low whisper almost. Everyone gasped loudly and some first year began to yell, "Oh NO!" Well a group of second years went into hysterics. "Everyone.... remain clam. Please, let's just start the Sorting shall we?" Professor Dumbledore said, his eyes had that piercing glare in them, but he was smiling. The Sorting went quickly with an addition of seven girls and six boys to the Gyfinndor House. The others houses all received around eight girls and eight boys (give or take one). Hermione ushered them back to the Common Room, a worried look on her face, "This is serious!" She said when they got inside, "The hat would NEVER make up a song like that one without a reason for it!" "Well Dumbledore didn't seemed too concerned now did he?" Ron voiced. Harry remained silent and thus silently agreed with Hermione. Ron obviously hadn't seen the look in Dumbledore's eyes. Harry knew that look fairly well...something was clearly up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: Ok now.... review in the little box below...see it? Mind you, it's two weeks from our previous installment, the night of Ron's detention. I'm going to start when he returns, around eleven. The Common Room is completely deserted, or so he thinks..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Mione?" Hermione glanced up to see Ron standing in the doorway. She said nothing and turned away, clenching a paper tightly in her hand. Ron found this strange...very strange indeed, "Mione? What are you still doing up, its past eleven. Where is Harry?" "I...I...Harry is out on the Qudditch Pitch." She said in a monotone voice, clenching the paper still tighter. "Oh that's right, they're picking a new Keeper...SHOOT! I..." Ron trailed on off suddenly, "Mione? What's that in your hand there?" He walked over to the couch and sat down beside her. She turned completely away from him, keeping her face out of his sight. She couldn't let him see.... she couldn't... "Hermione? What is going on? Why won't you..." Hermione cut Ron off by forcefully thrusting the paper she had been holding hard into his chest. Ron glanced at her warily, but took the paper silently. He didn't even have to look for what it was that was making Hermione so quiet. The paper was today's edition of the Daily Prophet. The first page gave him all he needed to know...written in bold print as the day's lead story was: MUGGLE KILLINGS HAVE STARTED Ron gasped and skimmed the article. From what he could tell, well the muggle killings had finally started. It said that two muggles and three muggle borns had been killed somewhere on the boarder of Ireland. He felt as if he would be sick any second. It had started.... it was true...oh GOD! Ron suddenly realized that Hermione was still with him. He felt like such a fool! She must be scared, and upset and.... c "'Mione?" he said softly, " where did you get this?" "Malfoy." She said shakily, "I was coming out from the...the Prefects bathroom when I remembered you had detention with Flitwick. I was right there and spied you in the room, finishing up. I decided to wait for you, when Malfoy come strolling by," Hermione stopped to take a breath, " He walks up to me and says in that annoying way of his, "Here Mudblood a little article in there might interest you while you wait for Weasel there." I took it of course and when I saw the Headline, he burst out laughing...LAUGHING! and walked off. I ran up to the Common Room and have been sitting here ever since." Ron glared, fury rising inside him. Malfoy was such a git! He knew perfectly well what was in that article, and HE KNEW.... oh HE KNEW that it would hurt Hermione like this. Ron wanted to kill him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron sat in a furious sick type of silence, a mute Hermione beside him. Ron kept mentally picturing Malfoy's death, each worse then the one before. After ten minutes of his silent insanity Ron turned to look at Hermione. She was staring at the fire, her face white as a sheet, her hands shaking horribly. Ron decided that he should at least say SOMETHING to her... "Hermione? You know that Malfoy is a git and you should never let him hurt you." Ron wanted to kill himself...Malfoy had nothing to do with this current situation! Ron you idiot! He cursed himself. "I.... I know that Ron but the article.... and his stupid face, and... and Ron the article!" That was it. Hermione couldn't hold it in any longer. Her tears silently spilled over. Bringing her hands up to her face, she began to sob. Her shoulders shook and her chest began to burn from her hot tears. But Hermione realised that she couldn't stop crying, now that she had started. Ron was alarmed when Hermione's shoulders began to shake. He was positive that she was crying, but he wasn't entirely sure what he should do. He placed a hand on her shaking shoulder, and said, "Mione? Come on Mione...please don't cry. I...I'm here." He realized how lame that sounded, but oh well, desperate times called for desperate measures. "Mione.... look at me. Please?" She looked up at the use of the nickname. This was becoming a weakness with her, it really was. Tears were running down her face, little streams flowing from her eyes. She sniffed quietly and locked eyes with Ron finally. His usual clear blue eyes were clouded again, like they were on that night in the garden. That fury was still in them from his anger at Malfoy, but they softened at the sight of Hermione's tear streaked face. He smiled very slightly at her, brushing a tear away from the tip of her nose. She sniffed again, trying to stop crying mostly, but also from surprise at Ron's gentleness with her. He brought his hand away quickly however, and asked with a sheepish grin, "Are you OK?" Hermione wiped at her eyes and said in a breathless shaky tone, "I...I think I'll be OK now." Ron sighed in relief, "Jeez Mione I've never seen anyone, especially you, come unglued like that." Hermione let out a shaky sigh, "I guess that was a little strange for me, but I couldn't help it Ron. I mean that headline just terrified me.... they are actually killing people Ron! Muggle people! People...people like..." "Stop Hermione!" Ron interjected quickly, "or you'll lose it again." "Right, right." She said hastily, swiping at the tears that had managed to escape, "You know, I think I should go up to bed now...I'm tired." "That's probably a good idea." Ron said getting to his feet. He helped her up to hers and pulled her into an unexpected hug. His arms fell around her waist and he just held her for a moment. She hugged him back and held on tightly, like he was some sort of support for her. Ron was surprised at her open flow of emotions towards him. Usually they were fighting or she was nagging him to study, while he teased her relentlessly. "This is actually better"; Ron thought to himself and then thought almost on top of that, "WHAT! This is Hermione I'm hugging here". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Well, well are we interrupting a moment here?" Ron spun on his heels, breaking his hug on Hermione, to turn and see his brothers and the rest of the Qudditch team hop through the portrait hole. Fred chuckled again, it was him who had spoken, "Well Ron I..." He got no further because Hermione suddenly fled the scene. She ran up to the Dorminity without another word to anyone. "Hermione! Mione..." Ron called after. She never answered and he rounded on Fred, "You stupid git!" He said flopping into a chair by the fire. "Ron? Is something wrong with Hermione?" Katie asked walking over, "She seemed upset." "I swear that girl has emotional antennae." George whispered to Harry. Ginny giggled, she was with the group as well. By now all three of the girls (Angelina, Katie, and Alicia) were sitting with Ron on the couch, trying to get him to talk. He stubbornly refused to reveal the reason he had been hugging Hermione. He felt that he should let her keep some alone time that's all she would have until she saw Malfoy tomorrow morning anyway. "Come on Ron, if something is wrong we should know!" Harry demanded. "NO! Guys, I'm going to let her tell you, DROP IT!" Ron nearly yelled, out of fatigue and frustration. "Ok, ok, ok Ron..." Ginny soothed, "OH! Ron guess what!" "What?" He asked distractedly. "I made the Qudditch team!" She said beaming. "Oh that's gre-...You what!" Ron sputtered in surprise. "I.... made.... the.... Qudditch.... Team." Ginny drawled out as if Ron were deaf. "I heard you Gin.... but how?" "She was amazing Ron! I've never seen anyone take to Keeping so easily, besides Wood of course." Harry said enthusiastically. "Yes she was good, I'll give her that." Fred nodded. "Better than the others anyway." George added. "Well, I thought she was outstanding and that's why I choose her." Angelina said importantly, "Oh I'm Captain by the way." She added so Ron would understand. "Well, "Ron said getting to his feet, "Congratulations, but I'm staying for any celebration I'm going off to bed." He walked up the stairs and out of sight, Harry reluctantly went after him, telling everyone that he needed to find out what was going on and that he'd see them tomorrow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The door clicked shut and Fred, George, Katie, Angelina, Alicia, and Ginny were left just watching it. "Well..." George started. "That surely was..." Fred continued. "Strange?" Alicia vouched. "Eerie?" Katie added. "Abnormal." Angleina said. "No guys," Ginny said gravely, "It's just that something is really wrong this time." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: Well, I made Malfoy really mean didn't I? Thanks for all the encouraging reviews. I see that everyone was pleased with Ron in the last part. Good, cuz I love him lol. Well I haven't really done anything with the classes too much, so I'm going to start now. The teacher may be a bit of a surprise to you, they have just arrived and Dumbledore has been covering the class til now. D/C: I have been soooo bad with disclaimers!!!! Well none of the characters belong to me (YET!) just the plot line and our characters crazy thoughts and emotions. Simple Letters and Complicated Words By: Ronluver (I keep forgetting to put this too) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry yawned and looked at the clock, seven a.m. it was nearly breakfast. He threw on some clothes and hurried down to the Common Room. Only Ginny was there however. "Ginny!" Said Harry surprised, "Where is everyone?" "Breakfast, I waited for you because Angelina wanted me to tell you about practice tonight." "Oh..." said Harry in a disappointed voice, "Ok then, come on we're gonna miss breakfast." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was strange in the Great Hall this morning. There was less of the usual chatter, the quietness sounded strange to Harry. He sat down next to Ron and across from Hermione. Ron smiled in greeting but Hermione barely looked up. Harry noticed that she hadn't eaten a thing, just poked at her eggs. Harry sent a suspicious glance Ron's way, but he refused to meet his eyes. He glanced around the table for anyone else to talk to and his eyes fell on Ginny. She was talking to a brown haired girl Harry didn't know, and gesturing slowly with her hands. It reminded Harry of that time he had caught her dancing to that Muggle song...what was the name? Oh yes... Reflection! Harry smiled almost subconsciously as he watched Ginny. She really did have a quite a personality to her. She wasn't just Ron's blushing, shy little sister anymore. This thought startled Harry slightly, he felt odd having these thoughts about Ginny, and these were the type of the thoughts he was supposed to have about Cho right? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny looked up from her plate and found herself staring into a large pair of green eyes. Those are Harry's eyes! She screamed out mentally of course. She willed herself not to blush as she kept on looking. It was strange really, she couldn't seem to tear her eyes away, and neither could Harry. "Students!" Dumbledore said. They both jumped, breaking the eye contact. Ginny immediately looked at her plate again, a faint blush twinging her pale cheeks. Harry turned around and faced the Head Table, not daring to look at Ginny one second longer. "Students!" Dumbledore said again, "Good morning! I have some...interesting news to tell you this morning." Dumbledore smiled, but for the first time, it didn't reach his blue eyes. Dumbledore seemed tired, and looked to have aged a good five years, in a matter of one night. What in the world could be making everyone so quiet, Hermione so sad, and Dumbledore so...old, in ONE NIGHT! Harry had no idea, but he sensed that it was something bad.... very bad. Dumbledore glanced at the staff table and continued his speech; "Your new DaDa teachers are here! You won't have to suffer with me any--" "Teachers? Professor." Burst out Fred Weasley. "Yes, Mr. Weasley, Teachers, two of them." Harry glanced over at the staff table and saw an unfamiliar female sitting there next too; Harry did a double take...next to Lupin! Professor Lupin was back! He caught Harry's eye and nodded, smiling. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Talk exploded around Harry's ears a second later. It seemed that everyone had finally recognized the male teacher sitting up at the staff table.... "LUPIN!" Shouted the twins, along with Lee. "Harry! I don't believe it! Its Professor Lupin!" Ron hissed. "Look it's the werewolf!" Said some third year from Ravenclaw. Harry glared at this comment. He started to hear many of those. These people are so dumb.... Professor Lupin isn't going to hurt anyone. Dumbledore wouldn't hire him if he were. Harry let his gaze sweep the Great Hall; snide it landed on Draco Malfoy. Malfoy was red with indignation, and pale with shock, making him look like a badly mixed strawberry shake. He was saying something to Crabble and Goyle, but Harry managed to catch it: "Well, Dumbledore must be really scared if we need TWO DaDa teachers, especially one that's a flea bitten monster. Father will surely be hearing about this!" Harry stood up, rage over powering him. Ron, for once, took no notice as he was begging Hermione to eat something. Harry took a step forward, reaching for his wand. "Harry!" A female voice slapped him hard into reality. Harry spun around to see Ginny standing up, a worried expression on her face, "Harry what are you doing?" Harry looked at his wand, and dropped it suddenly, "I...I ...Malfoy...." "Please Harry, don't let that," Ginny glared at a now sniggering Malfoy, "stupid git bother you." Harry sat down again, speechless. He felt like a fool for making a big deal out of Malfoy's usual snide comment, and an even bigger fool for being reprimanded by Ginny Weasley. Harry sat there numbly, for a few moments when he noticed people leaving. Breakfast was over, classes were beginning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry couldn't wait to get to Defense against the Dark Arts. It was there fourth class, right before Transfiguration. Herbology, Charms, and Care of Magical Creatures whizzed by fairly quickly, with a large amount of homework none the less. Harry stepped into the classroom behind Ron and infront of Hermione. Taking a seat in the back, Harry sat waiting for someone to speak. "Hello students! Its so wonderful to see you all again!" Professor Lupin beamed. Some students smiled, others said hello and some shrank back in mild fear. Harry scoffed at the image of Parvati Patil in the front row, literally shrinking down in her seat. "Remus.... aren't you going to introduce me?" the lady with him asked. "Oh! Oh yes, students this is Professor Fig." Harry sat bolt upright...Fig? Fig....why was that so familiar? Wait a minute.... Mrs. Fig! With the cats! But...Mrs. Fig is old...and this woman was anything but. "Excuse me?" Harry asked, "But I used to know a Mrs. Fig." Harry was aware that people were staring at him. "Oh?" asked Professor Fig with a slight smile on her lips, "Did you now? Well, what was she like?" "She was old…er...older and she loved to show me pictures of her cats." The room burst out laughing. Dean nearly fell off his chair and tears ran down Seamus's face. "Oh my!" Why that's... that's my mother!" Said the lady in a surprised tone. "Your mother!" Harry gasped, "So...she was a witch the whole time!" "NO! Oh no no no. I was the witch in the family, Muggle born you see." She smiled at him, her deep brown eyes twinkling. "You were Muggle born." Hermione squeaked. "Yes, she was, and she is also one of the greatest female witches I've ever known Ms. Granger." Professor Lupin said smiling at her, "Now save History for Professor Binns...lets get their lesson started shall we?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The lesson flew by, with a review on curses and no homework! "Wow no homework! Mcgongall would faint if she knew!" Ron whistled. "I know! I can't believe it with everything...." Harry trailed off in thought. "Yea.... I.." Hermione started to say, but trailed off as her eyes became clouded. Ron shot her yet another glance, but said nothing. Harry just shrugged. He was distracted suddenly by a flash of red hair. It was Ginny yet again with her friend that she was with a breakfast. Ginny caught his eye and waved slightly, a slight blush twinging her cheeks. This sent her friend into a fit of giggles as she stumbled into the classroom. Ginny followed a moment later, a dreamy expression illuminating her pale features. Harry stood watching, disgusted at his refusal to remove his eyes from her. "Hey...Harry what are ya looking at?" Ron asked following his gaze to the retreating back of his sister. "Hmm.oh! Nothing, thought I saw a bug." He said mentally kicking himself for his lame excuse. "Oh..." Ron said. Hermione walked past Ron and caught up with Harry. She looked at him, her sad eyes now holding a suspicious twinkle as she glanced Ginny's way. Harry looked at her with a mixture of alarm and fake horror on his face. She just smiled and moved on. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: I stopped it there because the next part will skip to the Qudditch practice (Ginny's first) and DRACO MALFOY'S second appearance. Ok lets see...we are going to start this part right after Transfiguration, even though we left off right BEFORE it. No matter.... Mcgongall is boring anyway. Simple Letters and Complicated Words By: Ronluver D/C: None of these fabulous characters are mine, but for the purposes of this story I have taken over their minds and their emotions *Laughs evilly* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "LUNCH!" Ron yelled as he ran from Transfiguration, "I'm starving!" Harry laughed at Ron's outburst and followed behind. He wasn't really hungry, he just wanted lunch to be over, and he wanted everything to be over for that matter. He just wanted to go to Qudditch Practice, the first practice of the year and with.... Ginny. Ginny had just walked in and she ended Harry's thoughts with her own self. Harry sat down quickly. He didn't mean to think that. What he was going to think was that it was his first practice without Wood. Not his first practice with Ginny. Still that was what it was going to be.... Harry shook his head and dived into his lunch, completely absorbing himself and banishing any thoughts of that red haired Keeper. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hermione sat down next to Ron and stared at her filled plate. The sight of food made her physically ill. How could she eat when Voldemort was out there somewhere killing more innocent people? It was horrible to see these other students eating, talking, and laughing! Laughing! Hermione felt as if she'd never laugh again until this madness was stopped. She stared at the enchanted ceiling, her eyes clouding with yet more tears. She stood up quickly, frantic to leave the Great Hall. Blindly she walked, completely unaware of someone behind her... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Draco Malfoy watched as Hermione Granger sped from the Common Room and out the doors. He puzzled over this for only a moment, until he saw Ron walk out after her. Then he got it. The article.... Hermione the Mudblood.... it all made sense. She was still broken up over that article and could hardly concentrate on anything but it. Well after lunch we'll just go find her and that Weasel too. They need a little talking too. Draco thought as he turned back to his lunch.... WAIT! What was Potty up to over there? Draco dropped his fork in slight surprise as he watched Potter. He was staring, as Ron's sister, Ginny in a completely absent yet meaningful manner. Draco smirked even wider.... this little talking to was going to be quite fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hermione collapsed against the cold stone wall underneath a large window. Rain poured down, seeming to intensify her feeling. She sat there, not moving, or speaking and barely breathing. She knew she was being stupid acting this way. None of the other Muggle borns were feeling this strongly...or.... were they? Hermione shook her head viciously, making herself dizzy. She stared at the floor in a blind state of panic and fury. She hated being so helpless and yet.... she felt it was needed from her somehow. Hermione sat up at the sound of footsteps coming down the hall. Hermione panicked at the thought of a teacher, but then she noticed the footsteps were coming quickly, like the person was running. Hermione peeked around the corner and saw a flash of familiar red hair. Ron. Ron was coming to find her. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Hermione!" Ron said as he turned the corner a second later, "What are you doing down there?" "I...I'm thinking Ron. Is that a crime." She retorted, a little more rudely than she'd intended. For once, Ron didn't rebuke. "Well no....not with you anyway. But...aren't you hungry?" Hermione looked at him for a second and then laughed, "HA! Hungry, no. I haven't being hungry for the past three days. I haven't been anything for the past three days really." Ron looked at her, a deep concern etching its way on to his face, "I know. You've been scaring me Mione." Hermione looked up, puzzlement all over her face and went to reply when she was interrupted by another voice. "Well, well, what do we have here Weasel and Mudblood." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron jumped and spun to face Malfoy. Hermione struggled to stand up and walked right next to Ron, also facing Malfoy. "Well, two against one I see. Ha...you two could never do anything apart and you'll never do anything together...trust me." "What the hell Malfoy?" Ron questioned a look of anger and immense hurt on his face. Draco smiled at him, "Well Weasel don't you see. You can't do anything and, well, she here goes without say-" Draco got no further as Hermione stepped up and slapped him hard in the face, like she had done in third year. He staggered backwards, surprise in his cold eyes. "Hey Malfoy!" Malfoy turned his head around to see Harry walking toward him, Ginny following silently behind. Draco straightened up, "Hello Potty. I was just speaking to you little friends here about their miserable-" "Don't you talk about anyone Malfoy!" Hermione interjected quickly, "Especially us!" Malfoys smiled and let his gaze fall on Ginny Weasley. "Congratulations Weaslette for making the team. Aren't you afraid of making a fool of yourself in front of Potter? You've done that enough already haven't you?" Ginny opened her mouth to argue but got cut off by Harry, "Don't you dare drag Ginny into this you...you bloody git!" He stepped forward, but Ginny ran up and stopped him, same as Hermione did with a now shaking with rage, Ron. "Stop Harry he's not worth it." Ginny pleaded with him. "Yea Ron, even though he does deserve it." She glared at him; "he'll get what's coming to him later in his life." The four walked away, leaving a triumphant, yet mentally beaten down Draco staring after them. ~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~ "Harry lets go!" Fred yelled to Harry later that night, "We're gonna be late!" "I'm coming!" Harry yelled back as he grabbed his broom and sped out the Portrait Hole. He walked out on to the Qudditch Pitch excitement taking its hold. He felt at home here, move here than anywhere else. He couldn't wait to soar; dive and just plain fly... "OK everyone UP!" Angelina yelled and blew her whistle. Up they went Harry soaring higher and higher until he could hardly see anything but the sky. Practice went on without the snitch this time, since they were breaking Ginny in. She really is amazing, Harry found himself thinking as he watched her save another Quaffle. He mentally observed the look of intense concentration on her face, and her quick reflexive moments. He smiled and dived down closer. "You're doing wonderful Ginny!" Katie Bell yelled from the other side of the field. "Keep this up and you'll put Wood out of the running!" George yelled, circling near Katie. "Yea.... Hey Harry! Don't you think Ginny is amazing?" Fred fired at him unexpectedly. "Uh...yea of course Ginny is amazing...I mean just," Harry said in a strange voice. "OK Harry, she gets it." Alicia laughed at Harry's comment and Ginny's blush. After another hour of Practice, Ginny was losing it. She had already missed two Quaffles and was about to miss a third. She flung herself forward to stop it, but it brushed past her fingertips and scored. Nobody noticed this however...they were focused on Ginny. She had flung herself to far and was slipping forward off her broom. She gasped as she looked at the ground fifty feet away. If she fell... Too late. Her grip failed and she tumbled off, screaming. Alicia gasped but couldn't move, same as Katie. Angelina was too far away to be of any help and Fred and George's Cleansweeps would never make it in time. "HARRY!" Angelina screamed up to him, "HELP!" Harry, who had been flying about too high to realize what was going on, dove down. He saw Ginny falling and immediately went after her. Being a Seeker did have its good points, because he managed to catch her only five feet from the ground. Harry had grabbed her around the waist and hoisted her up onto his broom within a matter of minutes. She clung to him, her breath coming in ragged gasps. Her eyes were shut tight and she didn't move at all. Everyone flew over and were sighing or congratulating Harry on his save. Harry just smiled and glanced at Ginny. "Ginny...you can open your eyes." He said. She shook her head no. "Ginny! You're OK now...Harry's got you." Fred said, a trickle of smugness in his voice. Ginny slowly opened her eyes and released her hold on Harry suddenly. She stared at her hands and then up at him, a grateful smiling lighting up her pale features. Then she flung her arms around his neck and whispered, "Thank you Harry! Oh My God Harry thank you so much!" and pulled away. Harry didn't respond right away...he was too concerned about his heart at the moment. It didn't seem to be working right; it was skipping beats... "Come-on Gin.... Let's get you inside." Fred said taking her and putting her safely on the ground. As she walked away Harry found his voice, "No Problem Ginny." She just turned and smiled softly, before disappearing inside the castle. Harry turned to dismount when he saw Katie, Angleina and Alicia watching him. "What?" "Nothing absolutely nothing Harry." They laughed. Harry shrugged and made his way into the castle. This had certainly been an interesting day.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: Well.... that was action packed wasn't it? I am back FINALLY!!!! I know that I have been gone for quite awhile and everything but I'm back now lol. Oh and one thing.... I see that for some reason this story has been taken off everyone's fav list? WHY?? I was on nine people's about two weeks ago and now you all took it off.... are you saying that you don't like me anymore! J/K!!! But anyway.... we are jumping ahead some in the part...mainly up to about a week before Christmas.... you'll see why when you read it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hermione woke up that morning, earlier than usual. She rubbed her eyes trying to figure out what it was that had awakened her. Glancing around she noticed the window was open. A gust of wind blew in and Hermione shivered. That was why...she was cold. Hermione went up and closed the window, shaking her head at Lavender who mostly likely had been the one who opened it. Hermione looked at the clock, 6:20. Ah well she thought no use in going back to sleep now that I'm so awake, maybe I'll go down and read by the fire for awhile. And that's what she did. Seating herself in her favorite chair Hermione opened up yet another muggle story, Anne of the Island. She loved this story especially the end.... where Gilbert, the main male character proposes to Anne the main female character...she accepts of course, and then.... he kisses her. Hermione sighed. She really did wonder what it was liked to be kissed. A million times she thought about what would have happened if she had let Victor kiss her. Then at least she would know what it was like...but her mother had always said, "Your first kiss is special, something you remember all your life." And Hermione, for some reason, really didn't want to remember kissing Victor for her whole life. If it were someone else maybe...someone she liked... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Mione?" Hermione gasped and looked up, "Oh Ron! You startled me!" "Apparently." He said, "What are you doing up so early?" "What are you doing up so early?" Hermione asked him instead. "I...I was going to play Chess." Ron answered. "Against yourself?" Hermione questioned laughing. "Well...I...no, but since you're here wanna play?" "Sure Ron, why not." They played a game, which Hermione lost terribly...her poor queen was still knocked out after the blows Ron's rook had given it. "Ha! You can not defeat thy chess master of Hogwarts!" He said in a triumphant voice. "That's right," she said, "I can't." Ron looked at her sharply for a moment then said with a smile on his face, "Guess what?" "What?" asked looking at him. "It's snowing." "Really?" Hermione squealed running for the window. She pulled open the drapes and stood there, watching the small flakes fall and mingle with the already frosted over grounds. "Ron?" She asked turning to him, "How did you know?" Ron seemed taken aback for a moment by her breathless face and happy smile, he had never seen her look like that before.... "Magic." He said simply. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Later that morning in the Great Hall as Ron sat fighting with Fred over yet another Qudditch match and Ginny was laughing with Katie Bell, and Hermione was trying to go over Potions with Harry, Dumbledore stood up to make a speech. "Students! I have an important announcement to make!" He waited while the Great Hall quieted down, and then he continued, "Today you will be having your first and only Hogsmead trip," He paused as groans filled the air, "Sorry students but I am taking NO Precautions! What with all these rumors flying and articles and whatnot...you will have one trip and that's final." He said and sat back down. "But Professor...why are we having this trip then?" A Ravenclaw asked. "Well I wouldn't deny you the chance of shopping for Christmas presents now would I?" Fred smiled and George nodded his head, "Good call Headmaster." "Yes Master Weasley thank you.... thank you very much." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "YES! Only one class to go before the Hogsmead trip!" Ron said punching his fist in the air as they left Charms. "Yea.... Transfiguration." Harry said. "Oh yea I forgot that part." Ron said his face falling. "Oh please you two...you act like its torture or something to be in that class." Hermione said in a lofty tone. "IT IS!" They said together, making Hermione laugh. They made it in about two seconds before the bell, causing Mcgonagall to give them a stern stare. "Now that we are all here," She said fixing her gaze on the trio at the back of the room, "Let's get started shall we? We will partner up and work again on our cross species switches. Don't worry Mr. Weasley...no spiders." She said catching sight of Ron's now pale face. Ron turned a faint red as some people snickered, but he said nothing. "Let's see...Miss Patil you work with.... Mr. Potter! Yes.... change is good you know. Let's see Lavendar and Neville, Dean and Seamus you may work together, " She said. Lavendar was looking horrified and Dean was giving Seamus a high five, Harry walked up to Parvati's table but she didn't notice since she was absorbed in writing a letter to that Beaxbauton boy she had met last year. "And who are we missing?" Professor Mcgonagall was going on, "Ah yes! Ms. Granger and Mr. Weasley...you may work together." "That's a surprise." Lavendar muttered. Hermione shot her a very annoyed look and Ron glanced at Hermione quickly, his eyes slightly surprised. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "So Mione," He questioned as he failed again to change his mouse into a rat, "What are you buying me for Christmas?" "Ron! I'm not going to tell you!" She said, as she successfully changed her mouse into a rat. "Well fine then.... but I'm getting you a book, since you love them so much." "Oh...well thank you Ron." Hermione said, her voice a little dejected. She forced a smile anyway. "Ah..." Ron floundered at the look on her face. Hermione loved books...why wouldn't she be happy to get another one..."Your welcome." The bell rang and Hermione left without a word, leaving a very confused Ron behind. "What's up with her?" Harry asked walking out with him. "I really don't know." Ron said shrugging, "Well come on lunch is starting." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hermione didn't go to lunch; she went to the Common Room instead. She wasn't hungry anyway. Flopping down into a chair Hermione stared into the fire thinking. A book. Another book. That was all she ever got from her friends...from Ron. No thought.... no consideration, Hermione sighed; she didn't want another book. She wanted something different, something...girlish for a change. Something nice.... Something Lavendar would get for Christmas. And Lavendar would definitely not get a book. Hermione sighed again and went to the window, looking out onto the grounds. It was still snowing, lighter now. The grounds looked romantic and beautiful...too romantic and beautiful thought Hermione. It was ironic to be thinking like this.... to be.... wishing like this. Ironic for Hermione that is. Ironic for the brain, the know it all, the top of the class Prefect. But Hermione wanted to be beautiful and romantic, even just a little. She couldn't help it really. She was fifteen and a girl besides. Hermione wanted to be treated like a girl, like she was... "God!" Hermione spun around her train of lonely thoughts finally broken, "RON! Don't.... don't do that!" "Sorry Mione! But jeez...where were you! I was looking everywhere and couldn't find you. I thought you were sick or something because you didn't go to lunch and..." "Ron...I'm fine. Really I am." Hermione said hurriedly. "You're sure?" He asked her. "Yes...positive." She couldn't believe how anxious Ron had sounded over her. She was fine, and what did he care anyway? "Well come on then.... we're going to be late for Hogsmead!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron Hermione and Harry walked around Hogsmeand for hours, each going into various shops and coming out with items they refused to reveal. They were about to go into the Three Broomsticks when Hermione stopped suddenly. "Hermione?" Harry asked. "Oh...you guys go on...I, I want to go in this store for a moment." "Uh...ok do you want anything Hermione?" Ron asked her, a quizzical expression on his face. "Yea.... a Butterbeer please." "Ok." they said and went inside. Hermione looked in the window of the store and sighed. On display were pieces of jewelry and Hermione really liked the necklace they had. It was a delicate silver hair on an equally delicate silver chain. The heart glistened and shone in the twilight...just like the snow on the ground. Hermione loved it. She was so absorbed in her wanting of the necklace that she failed to notice Ginny walk past and slip into the Three Broomsticks with Colin at her side. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny walked into the Three Broomsticks and spotting Ron went to go sit with them Colin following her. "Hey guys!" She said collapsing into the seat, out of breath and smiling. "Hi Gin." Ron said simply his eyes fastened to the door. "Hey Ginny...cold?" Harry asked her quietly. "A little." She said, completely ignoring poor Colin. "Drink this." He said pushing a mug of butterbeer toward her. "Thanks Harry." She said reaching for it. "Hey! That's Hermione's!" Ron said, a little louder than necessary. "Oh...sorry Ron I didn't..." Ginny started to say, but Harry cut her off. "Oh come on Ron...she's not coming in, it's been twenty minutes already. Calm down will you." "Alright...alright. Sorry Ginny.... uh did you see Hermione outside by any chance?" "Yea...she was looking in some store window, right outside of here." "Ok thanks.... Harry I'm gonna go see her, be right back." "K...Oh...hey there Colin." Harry said noticing him for the first time, "What are you doing here?" "Well I'm uh...with Ginny." He squeaked. Harry choked slightly on his butterbeer, "You're wha-- I mean uh...oh. That's nice." He said clearing his throat. "Yea, I suppose," Colin said sitting down beside Ginny. Ginny said nothing but rolled her eyes toward the ceiling instead. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron walked outside looking for Hermione. He had gone two feet when he spotted her, looking in some window. She seemed to be whispering to herself and Ron didn't want her to see him. He walked silently over to a nearby tree and watched her. He couldn't see what she was looking at, but he could hear her talking. "Wow.... I would really love to receive something like that for Christmas..." She was whispering to herself. Ron just watched as Hermione sighed at the thing in the window, and then gasped suddenly, "Oh! Ron...and Harry I forgot to go to the Three Broomsticks! They probably left already; I was out here so long. I wonder why they didn't come and get me?" She said frowning a little as she walked off toward the Hogsmeand gates. A second later she was gone. Ron waited for a moment and then walked up to the window. Looking in he realized that it was a jewelry store. Ron stood and looked for what it could have been that Hermione had wanted. A ring...no definitely not. That chain bracelet thing...no. How about that necklace? Yes! Of course! Hermione probably wanted that, although Ron wasn't all too sure why. Sure Ginny loved things like that but this was Hermione. Smart, brainy, bookworm Hermione. Still...maybe she wanted something different.... something that wasn't a book… Amazed at himself for figuring this out, Ron went in and bought the necklace, deciding that Ginny should get the book this year. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: Well...what a part for Hermione! Ron is the best isn't he? I love him.... sigh.... well ok...next time...well....you'll have to wait till next time to find out what it is!! HAHA!! Oh and don't worry Daisy there will be plenty of H/g in later chapters and some in this one!!!!! Oh and how did Ron afford the necklace you ask? Ha! You'll find soon enough.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was the day after the Hogsmead trip, a Saturday, and everyone was at lunch right now. Chatter and laughter filled the hall, making it seem peaceful and inviting for once. "Harry!" Harry turned in his seat to see Katie Bell walking over, "Yea Katie?" She sat down next to him and said with excitement in her voice, "We're having our first game today!" "What!" Harry said choking on his juice. "Yea...I know its really late to be having our first game but Professor Dumbledore has been insisting for some time that we postpone. He has consented however, and said that we may have our game today.... that's what Angelina told me anyway." "Oh..." said Harry his head spinning slightly. "Yea well...I have to go tell Ginny, meet you on the pitch at four ok?" Harry just nodded and Katie walked off towards Ginny. "Your first match!" Ron said his eyes glowing excitedly, "Ginny's first ever game!" "Yea...Ginny..." Harry said distractedly. "Harry? Who are you against?" Hermione asked him. "Us." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Us Potter...us." said Draco Malfoy from behind him. "Oh great..." Fred moaned into his porridge, "it's to early to put up with these gits." "Yes, well...prepare to be flattened Potter." Draco said laughing but then, catching sight of Ginny, he smirked, "Hey Weaslette! Ready for the game?" "Yes.... I'm ready to win!" she said defiantly. "Are you...well if you have another...fall...like you did at practice then well, we'll see who survives the trip won't we?" Laughing at his joke he walked off. "Now I'm not only going to beat him, " Ginny started savagely, "I'm going to murder him and then bury his smirking face!" "That's our sister!" Commented Fred and George to everyone, who happened to be listening, "Trained her well we have." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Two hours later Harry was walking towards the Qudditch Pitch with Ginny at his side. "Nervous?" He whispered to her. "Very." She answered back, pressing her shaking hands together lightly. "Yea me too." Ginny looked up at him in surprise, "You? You're nervous over a Quidditch match?" Harry looked down at her, "Yea...why wouldn't I be?" "Well...it just that you never seemed nervous before and well, I mean Harry come on, with everything else you have gone through." Harry looked back at her, an unreadable expression on his face, "Yea well I am and just because I've...gone through other things...that...that doesn't make me any braver or different you know." "I...I know...I'm just saying how unlikely it seemed that's all." Harry just nodded a queer feeling in his chest. He couldn't believe that Ginny, Ginny of all people, never seemed to notice his nerves. But then...he had never really talked to Ginny much before this summer, so she couldn't possibly know that much about him. But... he wanted her to. For some strange reason he really wanted to her to. He snapped back to the real world when he felt a tug on the arm, "Harry! Come on! We have to get ready." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Meanwhile Ron and Hermione were seated not to far away in stands. "How do you reckon Ginny'll do?" Ron asked her. "Fine I suppose, Harry said she's been wonderful all throughout practice." "Yea...you know I wonder sometimes..." He trailed off. "What?" Hermione questioned. "Well...if Ginny and Harry could ever like each other." He said almost sheepishly. Hermione's mouth dropped open slightly and she blinked, "You.... you....why do you wonder that Ron?" "Well its so obvious that Ginny still likes him and I don't know, Harry is really nice to her so maybe..." Hermione shook her head, "I don't know Ron, its possible..." Turning away she smiled to herself. Ron wasn't that thick after all... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our players walked out onto the pitch amid loud cheering and some booing. Harry walked out proudly, the same old excitement stealing over him. Ginny he noted was pale as pale could be, but with another dazzling smile plastered on her face. Fred and George were busy yelling out to the crowd as a disapproving Angelina stood nearby. Alicia and Katie were whispering hurriedly over some play, gesturing with their hands. Minutes later the whistle sounded and up everyone flew the sounds of the stadium mentally switched off for them. Lee Jordan was again commenting, but as usual a little too much.... "And there goes the fantastic Alicia! What a Chaser folks! Boy I'd like to just ki-" "Jordan!" Professor Mcgonagall said, "Stick to the game for once will you!" "Yes, right Professor. Lets see...Katie Bell has the Quaffle now...she's open, flying at the goal and....SHE SCORES!!!!! Yes that's 10-0 Gryffindors!!!!" The stadium went wild at his comment, his voice drowned out by the cheering. "Well I see this is quite a game," said a voice from behind Ron. Ron and Hermione looked behind them to see Professor Lupin and Professor Fig now sitting there. "Hello Professor Lupin; Professor Fig." said Hermione brightly. "Hello dear.... how is the game getting on?" Professor Fig asked them. Hermione opened her mouth to answer but Ron jumped in before her, "Oh its great! Gryffindor is up by a goal and with Harry and Ginny together they can't lose." Professor Lupin smiled at Ron, "Together hmm? Yes well, they do seem to work well on the field don't they Arabella?" "Very." she said peering pointedly over her glasses at him, "Very." Hermione looked quickly between the two teachers, a feeling that they knew something she didn't was overtaking her. Ron looked quizzical too, but not as observant you could say. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The game dragged on for hours, 30-20 Gryffindor. Lee Jordan had been commenting for quite a while, but he was really saying nothing fairly interesting. But then...."Finally! Captain Angelina Johnson has the Quaffle! She's speeding towards the goal, open it looks...." Angelina sped for the goal and just as she reached it a Slytherin passed her by, hitting her hard in the side. She cartwheeled in mid air, losing possession of the Quaffle. Fred got very angry at this and beat the club at the Slytherin's head instead of the Blugder. His action was overlooked however, because Lee Jordan chose that moment to stand up and say, "FOUL! Nasty foul and a penalty shot for Angelina.... she goes for it.... GOAL! GOAL FOR THE GRYFFINDORS! 40-20! Everyone was on their feet as Angelina pumped her fist in the air and stuck her tongue out at the Slytherins in defiance. Fred laughed and yelled, "That's why you don't mess with the CAPTAIN!" Harry was watching this from farther above, his ears listening but his eyes looking for the snitch. Malfoy at the moment seemed to be near the Gryffindor goal post. Harry flew down thinking he had seen the snitch, but realized a moment later he was wrong. Draco was tormenting Ginny, trying to distract her. She, Harry noticed with satisfaction, was completely ignoring him and not responding. Harry soared down even lower, just in time to catch Draco latest remark, "Weaslette...determined to win are you? Well if that goody too shoes Harry doesn't catch the snitch you won't." Harry felt anger rush to his face but said nothing as Ginny remarked, "Oh really Draco? Well at least goody too shoes Harry is LOOKING! Do you think the snitch is going to magically fly into your hand by standing here!" Draco looked smug then alarmed a minute later as he saw Harry streak by him. Draco went immediately after him thinking of course, that he had seen the snitch. Harry dove as fast as he could towards the ground, his hand outstretched. Making sure that Draco was right behind him Harry turned upward sharply in a spectacular Wonski Feint. Poor Draco was concentrating too hard on the ground to notice Harry pull up and moments later, found himself pummeled into it. Dazed and shaking he pulled himself up, his left arm hurting him. He looked up to see everyone stopping and staring awestruck at him and Harry circling overhead. Medi wizards were rushing out and Draco finally realized that Potter had tricked him, pulling a rather good Wonski Feint. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Potter pulled a great Wonski feint just now everyone! Draco Malfoy of the Slytherin Team seems to be a little injured from it, but the Medi wizards say there is no need to stop the game...too bad. Now does everyone know the history of the Wonski Feint? Well..." And Lee Jordan was off again, no even trying to listen to him this time. They were either focused on Harry or Draco at the moment. Draco was struggling to get back up towards Harry who was speeding off to the left. Harry had seen the snitch for real this time and Draco knew it. Harry sped towards it, hand outstretched. He could see it glistening and sparkling in the sun and Harry needed to get to it. With a final burst if speed he felt his hand close around it and he stopped in mid air, a smile spreading across his face. The Gyffindors went wild at this, circling and twirling wildly. Ginny flew over to Harry clapping her hands, "Harry! Harry we did it!" "Yea...we did!" Harry said enthusiastically. Fred and Angelina were yelling and Katie and Alicia were hugging as George circled around everyone. The stadium erupted into loud cheering and clapping as Lee Jordan stopped his history lesson to shout; "They won! The Gryffindors won 190-20!" Draco hung his head at this, knowing that once again he failed, "Just like everything else." He muttered, flying off to change. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Later at Dinner in the Great Hall the whole school was still abuzz with talk of the game and Harry's "move". Ron never did stop congratulating him and Hermione was even obsessing over it. Everyone else threw comments to Ginny about her saves during the game too. Dumbledore stood up just as dinner was finishing, "Students," he said, "I would like to congratulate the Gryffindors on their win and take this time to tell you that in about ten days we are going to have another Yule Ball! Last year's was a tremendous success, so why not have another? You all know the rules so see you there!" Everyone's jaw dropped as they looked around. Some people already began to ask others as the bell rang. Harry had no idea whom to ask yet, but he knew he had to very soon. Ron kept throwing sidelong glances at Hermione, a debating look on his face. Ginny was smiling to herself, just thinking. Once the hall was empty. Professor Mcgonagall pulled over Dumbledore and said, "Another Yule Ball Headmaster! But there isn't any Tri-wizard Tournament! And can we honestly relax like that... now!" Dumbledore smiled slightly, "Minerva, there is no immediate danger yet, Serevous has reported as much anyway, so...I'm going to let the students enjoy themselves while they still can." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: OOH!!! I think I'm nearing the end soon...how long can I drag this out anyway? Well...just continue to R&R!!! D/C for all the chapters I've missed: I do not own the characters bodies or looks. For this fic however...I do own their minds!!! Oh and the settings are not mine either. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny woke up suddenly, shaking. She had had a horrible dream that she was back in the Chamber of Secrets and well.... you know. Sighing she got out of bed, stretching. It had been five days since the announcement for the Yule Ball, five very...interesting...days. First off, no one had asked Ginny to the ball yet, no one important anyway. Qudditch was nearly killing her with all the excruciating practices, and her schoolwork was really piling up. With everything she had hardly seen Ron or Hermione and to tell the truth she missed them. She had noticed however, that there was a slight bit of tension between them that had never been there before. Another thing was Harry. Not only had he not asked her to the dance, he had been complaining of an ever building headache for the past three days. And anyone who had a least a millimeter of sense knew that that was not a good thing. Ginny dressed and went down the stairs, surprised to find only Harry there. He looked up as she came down, an unreadable expression flittering across his face. "Hey Ginny you're up early today." "Umm I guess." Ginny mentally kicked herself for letting such a lame answer escape her lips, "I had a dream and it-" Ginny stopped suddenly remembering what the dream was about. "Oh really, what was it about?" "Well uh..." Ginny sat down in a chair across from him, "Well it had to do with the Chamber of Secrets and-" "It did! Ginny was it bad...was, was Voldemort there?" "Well yes. He said that he was going to-" "What he was going to what?" Ginny paused and looked at him, she couldn't tell him, she just couldn't. "Nothing. It wasn't a big deal Harry. Never mind." "Never mind! Ginny tell me! Ginny please," He ran over to her and came in really close, "Please Ginny please!" He was so close to her that Ginny could feel his breath on her face. "Well alright..." She said uncomfortably, "He said that he was going to avenge us in later months and destroy our safe haven of protective forces...whatever that means." Harry's mouth dropped open; "Oh...he said that?" Seeing his face pale Ginny added quickly, "But Harry it was a dream. It probably meant nothing. I shouldn't have told you I'm so sorry Harry really I-" "No Ginny it's ok. I think its better that I know of any weird dreams you're having. Are you positive that's what he said?" "Yes." Harry looked at her, then nodded slowly, "OK then." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hermione had been listening on the stairs this whole time, partly from politeness of not interrupting a conversation and from her own curiosity. Now though she wished she hadn't heard that, but Harry would tell them later anyway. Wouldn't he? She watched as they disappeared through the portrait hole and made a move to stand up when she heard someone else come down the stairs. It was Ron, glancing around as if looking for someone. "That's strange, at least Hermione should be up by now." Glancing up toward the girls dormitories, he saw Hermione crouching there in the shadows, "Hermione!" he yelled, making her fall over sideways, "What are you doing up there?" "Me? Oh I uh.... well..." Hermione stammered realizing how awkward she must look right now. He rushed up the stairs to help her up. Once she was on her feet Hermione said, "I'm fine Ron I just...tripped. I really shouldn't read as I walk down the stairs anymore." Ron's eyebrows rose slightly at her statement, "But Mione you don't have a book with you." Hermione's eyes widened, "Oh? Well yes...umm come on let's go down to breakfast I'm starving." Hermione said nearly running down the stairs, leaving a confused Ron at the top. Ron caught up with her and they walked silently down to breakfast. Hermione was still stinging with embarrassment and Ron was just being quiet for once. When they were almost there Ron cleared his throat, "So Mione...anyone ask you to the ball yet?" Hermione's heart skipped a beat at his question causing her to mentally scold herself 'It's only Ron!' she thought savagely, "No." "Oh..." Ron said, not pressing anything. "How about you Ron? Going with Padma again?" This time he looked at her, his face a look of horror, "Yea, let me repeat that disaster." Hermione laughed, "Ron! You're so mean!" "Am I?" "Not really, now come on we are missing breakfast." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Down in the Great Hall the topic of conversation was of course; the ball. Everywhere you turned someone was talking about the person, dress, or hairstyle they were going to be going with or using for that night. "So Ron..." Harry was saying, "Going to wear your lovely maroon robes again?" Ron flushed slightly, "I guess I'm gonna have to..." Hermione knew that Ron had other dress robes from Fred and George and she knew that Harry also knew that...but did Ron? "Well actually Ron you don't." Piped up George. "Oh yea...how?" "We'll show you...come on." Fred said pulling him down the hall. Once in the Common Room Fred went and got the robe for Ron, Telling him to close his eyes he put it out on the couch. "Alright look." he said. Ron opened his eyes and his mouth dropped open, "Wow! Are these for me?" "Yup." Ron picked them up and looked them over, "Wow thanks guys! There great...no lace, no cuffs.... no maroon! I love them!" Fred smiled suddenly, he had never seen Ron so happy, "Glad you like them. Oh we got ones for Ginny too, seeing as she doesn't have any...go get her will you?" "Sure." Ron said racing from the room. "Well, I think we actually did a good deed here Fred." George said eyeing his brother. "Ruining our reputation we are..." Fred moaned shaking his head, still smiling. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron raced down to the Great Hall quickly running to Ginny. "Gin...you've got to come to the Common Room." "Why Ron?" "Because Fred and George have a surprise for you." "Well alright.... you guys want to come?" Hermione went but Harry stayed with Ron, knowing already what the 'surprise' was, "So...what's the surprise?" "Dress robes! Normal blue dress robes!" Harry laughed, "Oh that's great Ron...no lace I'm sure?" "Not a piece!" Ron said thickly through the remains of his eggs. "Good, good. So uh...who are you going to the ball with? I mean we only have five days left." "Well I don't have a clue. I will not go with Padma again and let's face it Harry no one else will want to go with me." Being the friend that he was Harry replied immediately, "Ron! That's so stupid! Of course someone will want to go with you! What about Hermione?" To Harry's surprise Ron flushed slightly and shook his head, "No-no I don't think so." "Well why?" "Remember last year how offended she was? That certain argument? Yeah.... now lets think..." Ron pretended to be thinking hard, "Will she go with me...uh no." "You give up too easily." Harry said standing up. "What about you? Who are you going with?" "Don't know yet...now come on we're wasting our whole Saturday with this stuff." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When they reached the Common Room they started a game of chess, which Ron of course won. "You're getting better Harry." He said those two hours later. "Sure I am." He mocked, "Lose my queen first move but I'm getting better." Harry turned around at the sound of a giggle to see Ginny behind him. "You improving Harry really." She said laughing now. Harry jumped up, "I am! I am!" He yelled sitting in a chair. Ginny was laughing so hard now; she was silent. Harry was watching her laugh and smiled to himself without even noticing. His smiled faded when Colin walked over however. Harry didn't move but listened very hard as Colin began to speak. "Ginny? Could I have a word with you?" Ginny nodded her head and gasped, "Sure." following him over towards the staircases. "Ginny I was uh wondering if you would like to umm gotoballwime?" Harry laughed into a pillow, but he did remember how he had felt asking Cho last year... "Excuse me?" Ginny asked politely, but she was thinking 'Oh great! He's going to ask me to the ball and Harry is still sitting there! What do I do!' Colin took a deep breath, "Ginny would you like to go to the ball with me?" He flushed scarlet and looked down. "Oh!" Ginny sputtered, "Oh well I uh...Colin you see..." "Its ok if you don't want to go with me Ginny. I understand." "No! Colin it's not that it's just-" " She thinks you would do so much better with someone else." "You do?" Colin asked. "I do?" Ginny echoed spinning around to see Harry. "Course you do," He said smoothly, "Now Colin," He said putting an arm about his shoulders and steering him form Ginny," Wouldn't you rather go with this pretty young girl here?" "Well I..." Harry tapped the brunette on the shoulder, "Excuse me but would you like to go the Yule Ball with my friend Colin here?" The girl stared at Harry, looking almost mesmerized by him, "I...I.... ok." She breathed, still staring at Harry. "Harry." Colin hissed, "I don't want to go with her." "Yes you do. Believe me Colin.... she's nice. I know." "Well...I if you think so.... alright." "Good! Now sit and get acquainted," Yes good." Harry pushed Colin onto the couch next to the girl and walked away hearing a shy, "Hi. My name is Mollie you're that great photographer right?" "Yeah! That's me...so..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry walked back to Ginny thinking 'Perfect perfect perfect! Ha that was too easy! But WHY did I do that?' "Harry! Ginny whispered pulling him through the portrait hole and out into the Hall, "I can't believe you did that! You know I really should be mad at you!" Harry looked shocked, "You, you wanted to go with him?" "No! But Harry that was rude!" "Yes but I saved your butt didn't I?" "I guess, but Harry now who I'm I supposed to go with? Colin was the only 'doable' person who's asked me!" Harry suddenly saw his chance. He could go with Ginny! Then he'd have a date and wouldn't have to worry about it any longer. "Well Ginny you want to go with me?" Ginny gasped, "Go with you?" She said her voice getting higher. "Well yea," Harry said remarkably calm, "Then we would both have someone to go with." "Oh...in that case..." she started dejectedly. "And I'm sure we would have a good time." He added hastily. "Ok Harry. Sure I'll go with you." "Great! Ok then I'll see you then." Then Harry stood up and slipped back into the Common Room a wide smile spreading itself across his face. HE noticed with satisfaction the Colin and Mollie were engaged in a good conversation and looked extremely comfortable with one another. 'That's two good choices I made today' He thought going to look for Ron. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At that moment though Ronald Weasley was no where to be found because he was outside walking the grounds. "She won't, she won't she won't..." Ron muttered in a singsong type voice, kicking around the snow. "Won't what?" Ron turned to see Hermione standing there, "Mione! What are you doing here?" "Looking for you. Harry sent me out, I've looked everywhere!" "Oh." "So...she won't what?" "Oh that. Nothing...she won't.... umm..." "Ron you can tell me!" Hermione demanded. "No…I can't...you would lecture me again." "RON! You tell me now!" Hermione said sounding very unlike herself. "Ok.... I was saying that...you wogotothballwitme." He rushed out. "I won't what...excuse me?" "See! You're starting!" "No Ron I couldn't understand you." "Oh...I said you won't go to the ball with me." Hermione stared at him completely dumbstruck for once in her life, "You honestly think," she started, "That I would say no if you asked?" "Of course I do!" He cried, "You said.... you said...." "Last year I said ask me first and not as a last resort which meant don't use me for a date!" "But I wasn't..." "You were!" "Ok I was but..." "You were desperate." "Yeah but now... "You want me to go with you." "Jeez Mione will you let me talk!" "Sorry sorry." she giggled. "Yes I was desperate, but come on Mione who wouldn't be, but I think we could have fun if we went together instead of - "Being jealous apart." Hermione interjected quickly. "Mione!" He growled, "NO! Instead of being with people we can't stand," Hermione opened her mouth to say something but Ron cut her off, "And DO NOT say you could stand Victor." Hermione closed her mouth, a small smile playing on the corners of her mouth. "So...you'll go with me then?" Ron asked looking at the ground again. "HA!" Ron looked up shocked, thinking Hermoine had laughed at him, but instead he saw... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Malfoy Hermione spun around and stared at Malfoy, with a look of utter hatred on her face. Malfoy just smirked and walked over to Ron, "So Weasel...desperate I see. Stooping to her when you could have gone with another girl form any other house." "Hermione is my best friend!" Ron shot back, "And she-" "Is a mudblood Weasel.... that's all she is." "I am not!" Hermione yelled at the same time Ron shouted, "You watch your mouth Malfoy!" "Oh...defending her Weasel?" "Hermione is smart, and good, and kind, and…and....she's much MUCH better than you'll ever be Malfoy!" Ron spat out, in a blind rage. "Oh?" Draco questioned, "Well then...I see your true person Weasel, your character and your, well your choices and for heaven's sake.... now I fully understand why your family is they way they are!" Hermione gasped at Malfoy's comment, and knowing Ron as she did, barely had enough time to fling her arm about his wrist and pull him back. Ron was strong though, and broke loose, his fist raised. Hermione leaped in front of him, placing her hands on his chest, she pushed him back, "Ron...stop." she pleaded. Ron was so mad, that Hermione was actually afraid. He was trembling horribly, both hands balled into white knuckled fists. His blue eyes were balls of fire now, total and complete hatred burning inside them. Draco was watching this seen with his usual smirk, but behind that aloof face something pulled at him. No it wasn't fear; Draco was immune to that by family causes...it was more like a longing. A longing for someone to hold him back, to care enough to stop him from doing something horribly rash and stupid. Pansy said she cared about him, but she truly only cared about his power and cunning ways. He knew it and she knew that he knew it. He hated it...he hated her...he hated himself. However, reputation was at stake here.... "Having the mudblood hold you back Weasel? That's powerful..." Before Ron could say anything Hermione jumped in with, "I'm saving his education Malfoy.... not your life. I'd actually like to see you beaten...savagely, but.... I won't allow Ron to do that so I'll just have to wait won't I?" Ron's mouth jumped opened and some of the fire left his eyes. Malfoy's eyes narrowed and he sneered a rude, "Weasel wimp and filthy mudblood." before stalking stiffly away. "Hermione!" Ron yelled, "I could have killed him just now!" "I know." Hermione replied taking her hands away from him somewhat quickly, and turning towards the castle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Once inside and on their way back to the Common Room Ron asked Hermione, "So Mione you never answered my question...would you like to go with me to the Yule Ball?" Hermione looked at him a grin spreading across her face, "Hmm....I don't know...." she started sarcastically with a slight laugh, "Let me think.... uh..." But before she finished she dashed sown the hall, leaving a stunned Ron. "Hermione!" He bellowed chasing after her. He dashed behind the portrait hole and grabbed her wrist tightly, "Hermione.... answer me!" Now she had started to laugh one of those real laughs, where you close you eyes and your whole body shakes. By this time Ron had grabbed both her wrists and in a desperate attempt to stop her laughter; had pulled her toward him. "Ok...ok...alright." she gasped out, opening her eyes. She gasped. Ron was right in front of her, only an inch or two from her face. He had possession of both her wrists too. Hermione abruptly ceased her laughter. Ron seemed oblivious to this at the moment, however, "So you'll go with me Mione?" "I...I...alright." Ron heaved a sigh of relief, "Great." he said, still not letting her go. Hermione was extremely uncomfortable and tried to pull her wrists away gently. Ron finally realized this, and how close they were, and abruptly let her go. Hermione sprang back like a cat that's had its tail stepped on, and Ron quickly ran a hand through his hair. He was shocked at how uncomfortable he had felt and Hermione had looked. He had seen her face...it was weird, yet he had enjoyed being close to her.... NO! Hermione yelled inside her mind. I don't believe this! I don't want to feel like that...not towards Ron! I want to be comfortable around him, like best friends should...not...not like I just was.... Hermione glanced over at Ron who was wearing a shocked expression also. She smiled in spite of herself and the situation and walked toward him. "Meet you at seven?" she asked him, referring to the ball. "Wha- oh seven sounds good." Ron answered distractedly, not looking up. "Great." Hermione turned to leave but then Ron looked up. Their eyes locked and Hermione felt her cheeks go warm, the same time that a crimson flush appeared on Ron's ears. Not knowing what to do she turned and almost ran back inside the Common Room... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Hermione! You're blushing!" she heard Lavendar yell as she walked toward the dormitories. "Impossible..." Dean answered, "Can't you see that she's been out running? Hermione isn't like you Lavendar...she doesn't blush." "Really?" "Of course.... I know these things." Dean said. "Uh huh...sure Dean." Said Harry, spying Ron, who he noticed, was also, a bit red around the ears. What had been going on? Ron said nothing but sat down by the fire silently, lost in thought. Hermione raced up to the girl's dormitories, hoping to find solitude but instead.... "Alright Hermione what happened?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: HA!! Cliffe!!! But this one should still be fun to read *Grins*... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Ginny!" Hermione gasped, a hand to her heart, "Don't do that!" "Well," she said, "What happened to make you look like you do?" "What do you mean?" Hermione asked feverishly hoping the blush was gone by now. Ginny smiled slowly, "Well something must have happened while you were looking for-" she stopped suddenly and clapped a hand to her mouth. "For what Ginny? What on Earth are you-" "Ron!" Ginny squealed. Hermione felt a warm sensation on her cheeks at the sound of his name, disgusted and embarrassed by it; she hastily turned away, "What about Ron?" "Well you were looking for him...so what happened?" "What do you mean what happened?" Hermione asked emphasizing happened to the fullest extent. "Well what did Ron do to make you look that way. Did he -WAIT did he.... Hermione did he-" "Did he what?!" Hermione cried in exasperation. "Ask you to the ball...did he?" "Well as a matter a fact he did." Ginny squealed and hugged her, "I always knew this would happen. You two will make an adorable couple." "Couple? Ginny don't be stupid." "But...but..." "Were going the ball as friends...that's all." Ginny drew away, and noticing the faint pink tint on her cheeks smiled slyly, Suuure...just friends, nothing more." With another sly smile, she departed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hermione stared at the door for a good ten minutes before stalking over the window and opening it quickly. Frigid air rushed in and Hermione breathed it in, shaking her head hard. She shut the window just as quickly with a bang, then stood peering out at the grounds, thinking hard. "Couple?" she whispered, "Weren't NOT a couple...I mean honestly...." Hermione trailed off as fat snowflakes began to fall rapidly; she smiled like a little child and watched them with wonder. Snow had always fascinated her, making her feel free and happy. Snow was just like... Magic Magic...Hermione heard Ron's voice in her head, echoing her own, he sounded just like he had that day...standing there... Hermione shook her head once again, "I need more air..." she muttered hastily reopening the window... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny flounced down to the Common Room, a smile plastered on her face. She noticed it was nearly empty except for Neville, Harry and Katie Bell. "Hi there Ginny." Katie said, "Do you happen to know the time?" "Umm.... 9:30 maybe?" "Certainly feels like it." Katie stood up and stretched, "Well I'm exhausted goodnight all," she said taking her leave. With her gone Ginny sat down in the chair she had been in, not able to keep the smile off her face. "Ginny? Why are you so happy?" Neville asked from his corner, where he was vainly trying to complete a three-foot essay. "Oh...no reason..." she trailed looking into the fire. Neville shrugged and went back to his essay. Harry was silent all this time, and stayed that way until Neville went upstairs half an hour later. "Ginny?" he whispered, "What has been going on?" Ginny laughed loud; "You don't know Harry?" "No." he said feeling extremely put out, "No." "Well....Ron'll tell you I'm sure." she laughed, "Ask him." "Alright then...I will." Harry said walking up the staircase, before he went inside however he turned back, "Night Gin." he said quietly, then stepped inside. Ginny just waved and then bouncing up from her chair, "Can my life get any better!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry walked into the boy's dorms, over to Ron's four poster and pulled aside the curtains. There was Ron lying fully clothed and smiling like an idiot. "Ok what happened with you and Hermione? I know something is up." Ron sat bolt upright, "Nothing.... I'm going to the ball with her that's all." "Really Ron? Cool now you have a date!" "Yeah...cool..." Ron murmured the same smile falling back into place. Harry climbed into bed, "Hermione seemed quite happy herself you know." "Really?!" Ron said, "I mean uh...oh...so," He cleared his throat, "Who're you going with Harry." "Ginny." Ron looked shocked, "Ginny? As in my sister Ginny?" "Uh yea.... that's not a problem is it Ron?" "Well no....it's just you know...my sister Harry. Be nice to her all right, you know how much she ...er.... likes you." Harry pulled his curtains around his bed, "Yeah...I know." He whispered before falling to sleep. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next morning at breakfast Harry was sitting studying the staff table. It was so empty now. Professor Snape had been gone all year, and well, Professor Lupin was frequently absent due to his er...condition. Harry had just learned the Sirius had left last month on his mission, as had Hagrid. Hagrid had flown to France to get Madam Maxine; and that was the last Harry had seen of him. Harry also noted how tense the teachers seemed, Professor Figg was the worst, although Harry had no idea why. As he pondered this another sharp stab of pain assaulted his brain. He had been having constant headaches for the past four days, dulling and sharpening at various points. It was really rather annoying. As he sat drumming his knuckles against his scar to ease the pain, Seamus came over. "Hey Harry." he said. " "lo Seamus." Harry answered dully. "Hey Harry I was uh wondering.... who're you taking to the ball?" "Hmm....oh I'm uh taking Ginny." Seamus whistled slowly, "Wow Harry ...I was certain you'd be taking Parvati again, but I can easily see why you chose Ginny." Harry's head snapped up quickly, "What do you mean you can easily see why I chose her?" He asked indignantly. Seamus raised his hands in a 'I come in peace' type gesture, "Nothing Harry...I just mean, well, I meant that she is actually one of the prettier girls at Hogwarts for starters and well she-" "I get it." Harry said curtly, surprising himself. For some reason, he really didn't like Seamus talking about Ginny that way... "Sorry...my head hurts a little..." He made up. "Its ok...I'm uh I'm going to find Dean ok Harry?" Harry nodded, glad he was gone. Seamus can be really annoying sometimes and he talks way too much. Harry thought about what he had been talking about, and a sharp stab of pain assaulted him once more... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Hermione!" Hermione stopped dead on her way to the fifth year's bathroom, "What Lavendar?" she asked annoyed. "Why the heck we're you outside running last night?" Hermione's jaw dropped, "What?!" "Well when you came in Seamus and Dean said you had been running...I personally thought you were blushing but then-" "Well I was running actually Lav," Hermione said in a high, very unlike herself voice, "I wanted to fit into my dress robes you know, and running around outside in ten degree weather is just the way to do it. Really gets the blood moving, especially to the face." Lavendar stared at her for a moment, "Really.... I never thought of that...." she walked away, obviously looking for Parvati so she could tell her about their new exercise. And sure enough, just try and guess who was out jogging later that night.... ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Harry sighed.... Christmas was right around the corner, tomorrow in fact (Sorry, randomly skipping days here) and he was more confused and weary then ever. His head was a constant annoyance these days, interfering with everything. Another point was Ginny. Yes.... Ginny.... He saw her everywhere, and was thinking about her more than he thought normal.... maybe it was his head? Sighing he went upstairs, he had to go finish wrapping presents, Ginny's in fact. Ginny... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: That was quite a WEIRD chapter...I just had to tie up some lose ends, fill in space before the ball. Yes the ball. That's going to be the next chapter.... so be prepared!!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ « Previous Chapter ( 14 ) Next Chapter ( 16 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Simple Letters and Complicated Words Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. This part is going to be the ball (YEAH!!!!!) BUT.... be prepared for a twist.... D/C: For all those missed chapters, these characters are not mine, and sadly they never will be, I did however, own the minds and actions throughout the fic... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny opened her eyes softly...Christmas....the Yule Ball... throwing back her covers, she lunged at her presents. A sweater from Mum, quills and parchment from Percy, dungbombs from the twins, a book from Hermione, another book from Ron...Ron? Ginny shook her head and reached for the last package. Glancing at it, she pulled it open revealing a clear case, which had a ballerina inside. Ginny gasped and gently took out the ballerina, turning her over in her hands; she saw a small switch. Gently she placed the doll on the table, flipping the switch. As if enchanted (which it probably was) the doll began to dance to a beautiful tune, she danced like Ginny did, well tried to. Gracefully the doll whirled and twirled, her movements' soft, unlike herself. The doll was made of porcelain with a lovely painted face and a muggle ballerina outfit. As Ginny listened to the tune she suddenly recognized it.... Reflection! That muggle tune she had fallen in love with over the summer! Who in the world could have? Inside the case Ginny saw a note; drawing it out it said: Merry Christmas Ginny! I saw this in the new shop Norman's Enchanted Novelties and just had to get it for you. I had it enchanted so that it played that song for you while it danced.... see you at the Ball. Harry Ginny gasped again and dropped the note...Harry had gotten this for her... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hermione was almost done with her presents.... only one left in fact. The usual parchment books and quills from everyone, nothing different. She unwrapped the last box; it was smaller than normal and Hermione shook it curiously, and having no idea she opened it.... The necklace! That necklace that she had been looking at in the window! How.... Who.... Hermione drew it out, it was so pretty, and finally someone had given her something that made her feel pretty, even special.... But who? Hermione looked for a card and found a small piece of parchment inside the box it read simply: Merry Christmas Mione, Ron Ron? How had Ron known....he couldn't possibly have seen her...could he? Whatever the reason Hermione smiled and dressed for breakfast, all other presents forgotten. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Later that day the Weasley's were having their mandatory snowball fight, with Hermione and Harry as well. It was war! Poor Ginny was being clobbered by the twins everyone was in fact. Ron had seemed to be winning but then he was taken down by a five-ball bombardment from the twins again. Finally it was too much; everyone surrendered to the twins. "No one can beat us!" George yelled over the wind. Fred began to sing "We are the Champions", "We are the Champions my friends. We kept on fighting til the end..." At around five, frozen and blue lipped they went inside to change and get ready for the ball.... nerves finally mounting... ~~~~****~~~~ Hermione finished pulling her hair back into the low bun, adding another small dab of Sleekeasy's hair smoother. Stepping back she looked herself over, deciding she looked all right. Around her all the fifth year girls were running around putting on dresses, fixing their hair and pulling on shoes, they only had twenty minutes to go after all. As Hermione slipped Ron's necklace about her throat she heard... Knock knock... "Come in " Hermione called. "Hi I just wanted to see.... Hermione!" It was Alicia Spinnet, she ran over to Hermione, "Look at you! You look lovely!" "I do?" Hermione said startled, "What was it you wanted?" "Oh Lavendar can I borrow your silver bracelet?" "Sure. Here." Lavendar tossed it to her. "Thanks! Hermione you look stunning...if a tad pale, why aren't you wearing a little make-up?" "I...I don't know." She said shrugging. Alicia laughed, "Come on silly, I'll do it for you." And with that she pulled Hermione from the room. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hermione found herself inside the sixth years dormitory, surprised at Alicia's assistance to help her. Sitting her in a chair Alicia said, "We are going to make you a star!" in a thick accent. "Oh no!" Katie shrieked, "She's gone make-up mad again!" All the girls groaned as Alicia yelled, "Shut up!" "Now," she said turning to Hermione, "Where were we? Ah yes...blush!" Alicia grabbed a little compact of crimson blush, gently putting it on Hermione's cheeks and nose, "Gives you some color." she said. "Thanks Alicia, I really-" "Shh! I am not done!" "Oh." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny twirled in front of her mirror, surveying herself with a smile. She knew she looked well, and the dress matched her perfectly. Ginny smoothed back her curls; she had left them down, except for a small green barrette on the side. She listened with amusement as some of the girls yelled about lost shoes and such. On her way out she heard one of her friends Molly contemplate if her date would kiss her or not.... Ginny laughed who knows.... maybe he would. Sweeping down the stairs she waited for Harry chatting warily with her brothers for some time. They only had five minutes left...where was everyone? Tapping her foot she watched the clock... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry and Ron meanwhile were just waiting inside the dorm, looking uncomfortable. Ron kept running a hand through his red hair quickly, making it stand up a little. "Ron come on." Harry said, "We should go." "Do we have to?" Ron pleaded, his eyes a much deeper blue tonight because of his robes, or his nerves; Harry didn't know which. Harry of course, was wearing his green robes again; they still looked nice anyhow... So they left walking quickly down the stairs. Hermione, Ron sighed with relief, wasn't there waiting but Ginny was... Harry walked over to her, smiling slightly, "Hi Ginny. You look pretty." "Thank you Harry." she said, while thinking, "Why is this so easy? Shouldn't we be uncomfortable?" Harry, little did she know, was having the exact same thought. "Well Ron, we'll see you inside ok?" Ron said nothing but his eyes begged him not to go.... yet with Ginny beside him, he did. "Damn," Ron whispered, "damn..." "Ron?" he looked up to see Hermione walking towards him, she looked absolutely stunning in white robes of the same floaty material as last year. Her hair was the same as last time, sleek and shiny, yet something was different.... Her face. Her face looked different, prettier somehow. She came closer and Ron figured it out, she had make up on, just a little though, hardly noticeable. Her cheeks were redder and her eyes stood out more it seemed. "Hermione you look.... you look- " "Thank you Ron." she laughed, "Where is everyone?" "They left already. What kept you?" "Well," Hermione turned and stared at Alicia who grinned, "Someone was a little over enthusiastic." "Oh...well then, shall we?" Hermione smiled at him, and they went. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When they got there, they immediately sat down with Harry and Ginny, relief all over the two boys' faces. Hermione and Ginny began talking about their dresses when Ginny asked, "Hermione were did you get that, and when?" Hermione flushed slightly, "Well I uh, "she cleared in throat, "in Bulgaria actually. I was shopping you see, and it was just so pretty." Hermione saw Ron tense up at the mention of the word Bulgaria, and Ginny thankfully dropped the subject. "I can't believe we're having another ball!" She said smiling, "It's really nice of Dumbledore isn't it?" "Yup." "I think so too." Me three." Just then a song began to play, it was the Weird Sisters again, people milled all about the dance floor, chatter rising. Harry remembered how being out there felt, and remembered the sensation of everyone staring at him...yet everyone was out dancing already... "Hey Ginny?" She looked up. "Wanna dance?" She smiled, lighting up her whole face, "Sure Harry." Once they were gone and lost in the crowd on the dance floor, Ron sputtered, "I don't believe him! Dancing!" "Well Ron," Hermione said taking a sip of her pumpkin juice, "It is what people do at a ball you know." Ron stared at her, " I know that Mione I'm just-" He stopped; noticing what was around her neck, "You're wearing the necklace!" "Hmm? Oh yes, Thank you so much Ron. How did you..." He flushed, "I was watching you gaze in the window, and when you left I saw the necklace. I figured it was what you wanted so I got it for you. Gave Ginny the book instead." Hermione smiled, "But Ron how did you uh...how did you-" "Afford it?" Ron said, the smallest trace of bitterness in his voice," Well, it was funny actually, that store does trade ins as well as money." "Trade ins?" "Yea trade in's, you know, give them something of equal value and you sort of exchange it for whatever it is you want." "So what did you..." "I had six sickles left so I gave him my..." "What Ron what? Oh I hope it wasn't something important?" "Nonsense Mione! I gave him my Weasley sweater from last year!" She burst out laughing, "Ron! You're kidding!" "Am not.... true as I live I tell you I did. He said he used to love home knitted sweaters, and maroon's his favorite color." "Ron...you're impossible, but thank you anyway. I've never gotten such a nice gift." Ron looked up at her, "You're welcome." he said. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Harry!" Ginny said tugging on his sleeve. They had been dancing for quite some time, actually enjoying themselves, not worrying what they looked like anymore. "What?" "Look at Ron and Hermione." she called over the music. "What?" Harry couldn't hear her. "Look. At. Ron and. Hermione!" Ginny yelled. "What abo-" Harry began to yell when the music suddenly stopped. People laughed slightly and Ginny giggled. "What about them?" He said normally. "They're laughing together..." Ginny whispered as if it were some kind of crime. "So?" Harry asked, "They are friends you know." "Uh huh.... but come on Harry, have they or have they not been.... weird these past few days?" "Weird?" "Come on Harry! You're not that thick are you?" "Alright so they've been "weird" what's that got to do with them now?" Ginny slapped a hand to her forehead, as she spun around during the dance, (did I forget to mention that another song had begun playing?) as she faced Harry again she said simply, "Well they're not being weird now." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And they weren't. Hermione was surprised to find out what a good time she and Ron were having. Although Hermione did want to dance, she still felt that Ron wasn't ready to ask her yet. He did however keep glancing at Harry and Ginny, craning his neck often to spot them. "Ron? What are you looking at?" "Hmm... oh just-" "Ginny and Harry. What do you possibly think they could be doing for you to check so often?" "I'm not checking...I'm..." "Checking. Ron she and Harry are fine." "I know but-" "Well if you're so concerned why don't you go up to them and -" "Mione! I'd look like a moron if I just walked up to them." "Not if you danced up to them you wouldn't...." "Danced? I can't.... wait," Ron took a breath, "Hermione do you want to dance?" Hermione smiled slightly, "Alright." A fast song was playing as they walked out, but as soon as the got onto the dance floor, a slow song had begun. Hermione almost burst out laughing at the look of pure horror on Ron's face, if only she had a muggle camera... Ron wanted to die; dancing was bad enough itself, but SLOW DANCING! Ron just stood looking at Hermione unsure of what to do really. Hermione giggled, "Ron are you alright?" "Fine, fine..." "Well we can't just stand here, come on let's dance." "Umm alright...." and so Ron hesitantly slipped his arms around her waist, and Hermione reached up to place her hands around his neck. Ron was shocked at how easy this slow dancing really was, just back and forth, back and forth.... Hermione was shocked. The minute she had 'stepped into' Ron's arms, well in a sense, she felt like she had come home or something. It was weird. This safe feeling had just swooped over her.... She had never felt that way before.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron soon forgot about Ginny and Harry, which was good because they weren't on the dance floor anymore, they were outside alone.... "So Ginny, having a good time?" "Yeah, thanks for taking me Harry." "Welcome, I was glad to. You're fun to be with." "Really?" Ginny asked looking intently at him. "Yea..." Harry trailed off suddenly. He knew how stupid it was, but Ginny looked really pretty tonight, Really REALLY pretty... Harry suddenly stood, and went to the balcony edge.... this was Ginny, he reminded himself. Yet a VERY PRETTY Ginny argued his head. He sighed. Ginny got up and walked next to him, touching his arm lightly she asked, "Anything wrong?" Harry didn't look at her, "No." he said quickly. "Harryyy," she drawled out, "You're lying to me." "Nothing's wrong, its just..." he turned and faced her. Her eyes were a light brown almost hazel color tonight; her hair was so red it was like a fire.... a fire he could touch without getting burned. Well he might get burned but...why did she have to become so pretty all of a sudden? No maybe it was his scar...yes maybe it was affecting his vision. "What?" Ginny asked again, softer. Nope. It definitely wasn't his scar. Harry ran a hand through his hair, It's well it's...." Ginny came in slightly closer. "Harry you can tell me." Harry let out a light laugh, "No believe me Ginny I can't." "Fine then. If you don't trust me to listen then I'll just-" Ginny said beginning to walk away. Harry reached out and caught her arm, "No Ginny..." he sung her back toward him. "What?" she said cross. "I do trust you." "Well then tell me!" "There's nothing to tell..." "Uh huh.... then show me if you will." "Show you?" Harry questioned, a proposition forming in his mind, "Alright I'll show you..." Then he leaned in and kissed her very gently. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron and Hermione were still dancing; all that had happened with Harry and Ginny had only taken minutes... Ron was just content to stay right where he was, holding Hermione like he had done on that night.... that night when he had seen her break down. Hermione had been scared, terrified. She wasn't perfect, she wasn't a know it all brainiac. Ron knew that now, he had known it before, yet he had never seen it. She was a person, a muggle born person to be exact, who had goals, ambitions, and fears. Certain fears that made Ron want to hold her forever, trying to keep her safe. Hermione was still shocked at the feeling she had in Ron's arms. Although strange, it was rather pleasant. She did feel safe, safer than she had with anyone else; which Hermione figured was a good thing. Still it was strange to feel like this with Ron, about Ron.... and yet she couldn't help the fact that she did. Then the song died away... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ginny pulled away almost immediately from shock. She let out a small almost inaudible gasp, looking at Harry. Harry looked horrified with himself. His face was a mixture of shock and disgust, not with Ginny, but with himself. He hadn't meant to do that, didn't even know he was going to, but he had. He certainly had. He looked down at Ginny now; she was still frozen with shock, a hand half way to her mouth. "Hey Ginny I really didn't mean...well I mean I did, but I...well what I meant was...I was trying to.... you see-" Harry just stopped talking because he knew he was getting nowhere, and Ginny wasn't even listening, her hand on her mouth now. Harry smiled, at least that was a good sign... Harry opened his mouth to try and talk again but was sidetracked when a large black owl went whizzing past his head into the Great Hall. He touched Ginny lightly on the arm; she jumped but turned and looked at where he pointed. The owl had flown straight to Dumbledore, landing lightly on the table. The music stopped and everyone watched as Dumbledore swiftly freed the letter and sent it on its way. The parchment was worn and small, torn in various places as well. Dumbledore read it extremely quickly, his eyes darting around the paper. Harry saw his eyes blaze and cold fury etch its way onto his face like it had done last year, in Moody's office... Dumbledore suddenly stood, sending his chair flying, "Students I'm sorry but you all must return to your houses. Please, file out quietly. Professors a meeting in the staff room. Now." Bewildered, the students all obeyed, getting out quickly as possible. Harry and Ginny ran to find Ron and Hermione, but they were already gone, Harry spotted Ron leading a confused Hermione by the wrist. Ginny and Harry were the last inside, panting; they collapsed onto the couch. Everyone was up...waiting for someone to tell them what was happening. What was going on, who had sent the owl... just waiting for answers. Harry and Ron started a game of chess, while Hermione looked on. Parvati and Lavender absorbed themselves in picture magazines, while Dean and Seamus played exploding snap. George and Fred stayed up talking with Lee, Alicia and Angelina; Katie had fallen asleep on George's shoulder. Ginny sat absently holding her ballerina in her hands, it's tune filling the Common Room. The rest of the Gryffindors were either sitting in silence or sleepily coming down the stairs if they were in first through third year. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An hour or more passed, no one was really sure, when Professor McGonagall burst through the portrait of the Fat Lady. Her face was white and her eyes looked dazed. Everyone stood at her presence, anxious for some answers. "Students, you must remain calm. Professor Dumbledore has just received a letter from Professor Snape. As you know he has been on a secret mission for Dumbledore regarding You-Know-Who all year." Many heads nodded up and down. "All has been well until now. It seems that You -Know-Who had reached Azkaban and-" She stopped, gripping the wall to support her body, "And-" Everyone held their breath; they were all hanging on her every word, standing frozen. "And he has released all his prisoners, the Dementors have joined him.... He is back." Professor McGonagall said this all in a rush, then with tears in her eyes she muttered; "I'm so sorry students." Then she fled. Everyone stood frozen for a second until Parvati and Lavendar began to cry. Angelina had paled to the point of her dark skin looking almost white; Alicia was sitting mutely her hands clapped to her mouth. Katie was trembling something terrible, looking horrified. Dean and Seamus just stood there, cards in hands, staring worriedly at Lavendar and Parvaiti, then at each other. Fred and George sat on the couch at the same moment murmuring, "Bloody Hell..." Ron was frozen his eyes wide with shock. Harry, who was beside him, looked angry, if anything else. His hands were fists and his eyes blazed. Hermione was staring out the window, trying to breathe. This couldn't be happening...not now. Not so soon... Ginny was standing, her ballerina doll clutched in her hands. Her hands were trembling, and the doll slipped. She let out a cry as it fell to the floor and smashed, its song still playing loudly. She dropped to her knees, a sob escaping her. Harry and Ron both broke from their trances, and whirled on a now sobbing Ginny. Ron seemed concerned but he couldn't make himself go over to her, his legs wouldn't obey. Harry made it over and dropped to his knees. Ginny looked so helpless on the floor like that. He gently picked up a piece of the doll and stared wordlessly at it. Ginny glanced over at him, wiping her eyes hurriedly on the back of her hand. "It's all right Ginny," he said quietly. "No....no. I'm sorry Harry. I'm a fool for acting this way over this." she gestured to the fragments. "No Ginny. I know this is more than the doll," He lifted her chin up with his hand, "It's gonna be alright Gin, we'll get through this...somehow." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After ten more minutes of this, Alicia suddenly stood, "I think," she said with a quiver in her voice, "That we should all go and get some sleep now. Heaven knows we're going to need it." People nodded and shuffled off dazedly. Sniffles and sobs were still heard, as dazed and pale faces were still seen. Ginny disappeared inside, leaving her shattered doll behind her. Harry followed mutely after her; his trance was back. Hermione rose from her chair, turning to go, when she saw Ron still standing there. Hermione nearly ran to him, "Ron...oh Ron. Come on." she tried vainly to pull him along. He wretched his arm free, " No." he whispered, "It's no use." "What?" Hermione asked, frightened by his pale face, and expressionless eyes. "Everything.... He's back...we're done for. It's no use." "Ron!" she cried, catching his shoulders tightly, "What are you talking about? It's not over." Ron looked at her, "How? How can we defeat him?" "We'll fight, Ron we'll fight." "Fight. Ha. Fight and lose...Harry saved us before, Hermione. He can't possibly do that again." Hermione was scared now. What was with Ron? He had NEVER talked like this. Always the optimist, the joker...the high spirited one.... "Ron..." she choked on a cry. This was too much; everything was too much. This year had been hell what with the muggles killings, then her confused feelings, Voldemort first strike.... his army was rising, and now Ron. Now Ron was choosing to just stand here and....and GIVE UP! "Ron.... you move right now!" she yelled, "You are being stupid.... I don't understand why you are acting-" "Stupid," he murmured, "Stupid am I? What's the point of fighting Mione?" he roared, more in confusion than anger. She went to say something but he kept on, "There is no point...except death. Hermione I," he turned to her suddenly, " I don't want to die Mione. I don't want anyone to die...I don't want to go through this." Hermione's eyes filled with tears, "But Ron..." she went up and hugged him tight. Ron just stood there, letting her embrace him. He was scared, and he didn't want her to know that. He hated showing people his emotions, it made him feel even less then he was. But Hermione had seen...and she knew. Better her than anyone else. Ron hugged her back, letting the feeling of rightness come upon him. Hermione had her head on his shoulder, her eyes closed...she was safe now. Only now. Finally Ron broke from her, and moved to go upstairs. "Ron?" He turned and faced her," Yeah?" "Thanks for...just thanks." she whispered, too tired to say what she really wanted to right now. Ron shook his head; he hadn't done anything worthy of a thank you, "Hey Hermione?" "Yeah?" she asked, halfway up the stairs now. "Do you think that this is the end?" Hermione looked at him for a moment then said seriously, "No Ron. I think it's only the beginning." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: The end of the SERIES!! Yes that's right.... its over!!! You're all probably thinking I'm crazy but I'm not. I'm going to do an epilogue...then a sequel series. It will work itself out...you'll see. I want to say thanks to everyone who kept on reviewing my story all the way through, or well mostly all the way through lol. This epilogue may jump around but hopefully you'll be able to understand. Thanks again and enjoy!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Hermione's right." Ron assured himself as he finished packing up his trunk, "This is only the beginning." He packed away his books and quills and moved onto his dress robes, folding the soft blue material he remembered that night, he'd probably never forget it. A lot had happened that night, more than he would have like to happen anyway. He had danced with Hermione for the first time; that had been the good part. The really good part as far as he was concerned. Then He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named had returned, really and truly returned. Pounding his robes into his cauldron Ron tried to surpress the cold fingers of fear squeezing his heart and overtaking his stomach. Why was he so scared? Harry didn't seem worried, and he was the worst off...or was he? Ron knew deep in his heart that he really had it the worst. His best friend was Harry Potter, Voldemort's downfall, twice, and Hermione was a muggle born, a Death Eater's target. He could lose both his friends with the flick of a wand. A simple flick, that was all it took for Him to take away everything that meant something to Ron. Ron shook himself. A million times since that night he had thought about this, a million times he had seen it take place, with him powerless to stop it. Him on the outside, scared and not doing anything about it. But that wasn't how it was going to go! Ron would never do anything like that.... EVER. "Ron? Come on... its really time to get going." Harry said coming in the room. Harry looked exhausted. Ever since the news he had been tormented with headache after headache, some so powerful that they made him ill, yet he had refused to step foot inside the hospital wing. Whenever Ron or Ginny mainly, had tried to persuade him, he became a wall. Shaking his head and stomping off to the dorm rooms each time. "Yeah...I'm coming. Where are Hermione and Ginny?" "Hermione's already out on the grounds and Ginny's waiting for m- us." Ron eyed Harry; "You do seem to be with her more.... Something up?" "What...nooo." Harry said laughing a bit, "Nooo." Ron advanced on him, "Harry you can tell me. I see you two, I'm not blind you know." Harry snorted but said seriously, "All right Ron. Nothing is going on...yet, but it might." Ron narrowed his eyes, "It might?" "Yes it might. Now let's just leave it at that all right, come on. Hermione's gonna start worrying about you." Then, before Ron could reply, Harry was gone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Waiting at the foot of the stairs, were Harry and Ginny. They were talking in whispers and Ginny, Ron noticed was giggling, something she hadn't done too often since.... well just since. It might my foot, Ron thought, something WAS going on. Leaving them, Ron stepped from the Common Room, and walked out onto the grounds in search of Hermione. Seeing her made Ron tense up, she hadn't been the same since they had known what really happened the night He came back. Dumbledore had informed them that Professor Snape had been tagging the Death Eaters; following them in the shadows. He had sent weekly posting to Dumbledore; everything had been fine, until that night. Voldemort had gone to Azkaban and succeeded in recruiting the Death Eaters. As Snape watched in the shadows, Voldemort had sensed him. Something about the island and it's magic Dumbledore had said. Well in any case, Snape had been found out. Voldemort didn't kill him, or have the kiss administered either. Instead he threw Snape into the empty Azkaban, with no one there. He had put Snape under a powerful Crutiutas Curse, knocking him out for days when Snape had finally come to he sent word to Dumbledore, explaining the situation. And that's how it still stood. Snape was stuck, Voldemort was back, and the Dark Years were beginning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Ron!" Hermione shouted, "Come on!" Ron shook his head; he really had to stop this replaying thing... "Coming Mione." He reached her and they climbed into the nearest carriage. "We're done...our fifth year is over." Ron said wistfully. "Yeah, "Hermione sighed out the window, "and what a year it was." After that night, school had just whizzed by. No reports from the Daily Prophet thank God, and classes were the same as usual. O.W.L's had still be given out, much to everyone's disappointment. Then that was it...the year was over. And a year they would never ever forget was about to begin. Ron noted Harry and Ginny come running out of the castle, just in time to reach the last carriage. As Ginny climbed in Ron noticed she was holding Harry's hand. Ron also noticed Hermione watching them too but she was smiling. "Don't smile at them like that." Ron said. "And why ever not?" she huffed. "Because...don't you find it weird that they are...are..." "Getting together? No. I think it's wonderful, finally Harry has noticed Ginny whose loved him for years. It's like a fairy tale." Ron snorted, "Oh please...aren't you even the tiniest bit uncomfortable?" "Well," Hermione looked thoughtful, "Yes I guess this will change things, but change is good Ron. Yes, certain changes are good." The carriage pulled to a stop and Hermione hopped out, running away towards Harry and Ginny. Watching Hermione run, Ron noticed the way the sun glinted off her hair, it looked really pretty. Ron knew that Hermione was pretty, that was fact to him, but what good was it unless... No. Ron wasn't going to think of the rightness, the safeness, and the sense of truth right now. He was only going to think about getting home. Yet, again as Hermione had said, certain change was good, and this was only the beginning. Ron walked off and climbed aboard the Express with everyone. Chatter was normal on the trip home, yet things were very different. The atmosphere held a mysterious quality that scared all of them, but home was just around the bend.... Home, where everything was right and safe. At least...for now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stepping off the train, Ginny went straight into her mother's arms. Her mother held her, breathing a sigh, then turned to Harry and embraced him just as tight and long. Hermione who was in the background, smiled weakly, tension still hanging there. But Mrs. Weasley grabbed her as well. Ron had to smile, that was Mum for you. He made it over, struggling with his trunk. His mom saw him and grabbed him as she had done the others whispering, "My baby boy." in his ear. "Hi Mum." he said softly. She finally let him go, giving him time to speak to Harry and Hermione. He went to Harry first, "You all right?" Harry sighed, "Yes." Ron glanced at Ginny, and smiled, "Well, with her you should be." Harry smiled, while Hermione beamed at him. "I'll owl you as soon as I get home!" Ron shouted that to Harry's now retreating back, he was going to Ginny. Hermione sighed, "That was a very good thing you did Ron. It let's Harry know that you're ok with that at least." "I'm not...but does it really hurt to let him think so?" Hermione shook her head, "Ron there's a lot worse things to be worrying about this summer then that." then she quickly bit her lip as if to say "Sorry! Oh I didn't meant to say that!" Ron looked at her, "You are coming over this summer right? With Harry and everything?" Hermione suddenly seemed uncomfortable, "Well sure.... if you want me too, I mean with everything that's going on and well...honestly..." Ron stared at her, what was she on about? Of course he wanted her there! "Hermione!" he said, dropping his trunk and grabbing her shoulders, "Of course I...we all...want you there! Are you crazy? Why would you think otherwise?" Hermione looked startled, "Well.... I don't know...it's just... Ron, my parents. They're Muggles remember?" "So? They'll come too then." Ron said quickly. Hermione looked shocked then smiled, a real smile, which she hadn't done for months, "Oh Ron! That's so nice! You're amazing! I'm...oh thanks Ron...are you sure it's ok?" "Its fine dear!" Molly Weasley said coming behind them, "You just go tell your parents...Ron'll owl you of course." Hermione smiled again, "Thank you so much Mrs. Weasley! I'm going to go tell me parents right now...bye Ron!" she said this in a breathless rush. She ran half-way to her parents, then came back to Ron, "Thanks again Ron...we'll might be able to get through the summer all right now." then she reached up and kissed him on the cheek, before running back off. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron stared at her back in complete amazement. What had just happened here? "Pitiful." Ron turned to see Fred and George behind him. "You are pitiful," they said again. "What? Why?" Ron sounded hurt, he thought the twins were serious for once.... they were. "What are ya just standing there for?" Fred asked, while George added, "Go after her!" "Who?" Ron asked turning, "You mean Hermione?" "YES!" they said in unison. "But...." "GO!" Ron stared at them.... they were crazy. Why would he go after her? Before he had a chance to walk away however, Fred yelled, "Oy! Hermione! Come here a moment will you?" Hermione who had just been climbing in the back of her parent's car, looked confused, and then slowly came over. "Yes Fred?" she asked. But the twins said nothing as they turned and ran like little kids who were about to get in trouble. Ron glared at them over Hermione's head. When they got home he was going to... "What was that all about?" Hermione asked again, jerking Ron from his death thoughts. "Oh nothing. Joke. You know the twins." he laughed. "Yeah.... so what did they want?" "Em...nothing. Like I said...joke." "Oh well in that case I really have to get back, but Ron my parents have it all arranged!" "What?" "For us to stay this summer. We've spoken to your Mom and Dad who said we can all stay whenever we feel threatened because of well..." she trailed off and looked down for a moment. Shaking her head she looked back up, "Anyway...we're going to stay at your house in the twins room. They're going aboard this summer your Mum said." "Are they?" "Yes...Romania or something...but I just wanted to let you know that I'm coming...is Harry?" "I hope so.... I know Ginny asked him. I'll make sure to owl him this summer. It just wasn't fair to him not to hear form us all last summer..." "But it wasn't our fault! We wouldn't do that on purpose!" Hermione looked scandalized. "Yes I know...but still." "Still..." Hermione echoed him. Then, "Hermione!" came her father's voice, just as, "Ron! Hurry up!" was heard from Ginny. They two looked at each other, not wanting to separate even if it was only for a few weeks. Hermione bit he lip, as Ron looked down at her silently. Together they sighed and whispered a hurried, "Bye." before turning away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ron silently got into the van his father had gotten for this year, as a help token from the Ministry. Ginny looked at him briefly, her eyes a mixture of apprehension and laughter. Ron turned around and glared daggers at the twins, who grinned. Mrs. Weasley turned and said, "Well...with that over with only fifteen more minutes 'til you're home again my dears." Yes. Ron thought, staring out the window, only fifteen more minutes until they were home. Home, where everything was right and safe. At least...for now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N: Finally done!! My series, my favorite series is OVER!!!! But don't forget to R&R please....
