A quick glance at Dudly's old alarm-clock told him it was twenty to one in the morning, but Harry was used to being awake this late. He had had very little sleep ever since he returned to Privet Drive from his fourth year at Hogwarts for the summer holiday. The horrors of the previous year - Cedric's death and Voldemort's fresh revival most of all - had been turning over in his mind so much that sleep was practically impossible. But tonight, tonight was different. Harry knew why he was awake, and it was definitely NOT due to fear of the Dark Lord. A girl was on his mind - it wasn't Cho, he'd given up on her ages ago, it wasn't Fleur, it wasn't even Hermione, who had given him something to think about with that kiss she gave him at the train station. It was a girl he had just about ignored for the past four years since he had met her. It was Ginny. Harry strongly recalled the moment he had stopped seeing her as the childish ten-year-old who begged her mum to see him at the station in his first year (for that was how he saw Ginny even when she was thirteen) but as the beautiful fourteen year old she was. It was the night he had taken the Golden egg to the Prefect's bathroom. On his way back, still unable to believe he had not been expelled with Filch and Snape on the prowl, thanks to Moody's help, Harry walked carelessly into someone outside the portrait hole. At first he didn't recognize her, but as her glossy copper-colored hair caught the moonlight, Harry realised it was Ginny. He recalled standing there, invisible under his Cloak, staring into those deep brown eyes and feeling a tingling feeling all over his body, his heart pounding stomach jolting the way it did when he used to fancy Cho. And ever since his feelings for Ginny had grown stronger with every glimpse he got of her. It wasn't just her beauty that hooked his heart - if he wanted beauty alone, he'd have stuck to Cho or, now that her teeth had shrunk, Hermione. No, it was her maturity, her sweetness, her gracefulness and just about everything about her. Harry stared down at the piece of paper he was holding - the cutting from the Daily Prophet Ron had sent him two years ago on his birthday with the picture of the Weasley family in Egypt. Harry ignored the rest of the waving Weasleys in the photo, and focused on Ginny who was standing with Ron's arm around her, looking particularly glamorous in the Egyptian sun. Harry marveled at the fact he hadn't noticed her beauty the first time he looked at the photo, if at no other time. Harry hadn't told Ron and Hermione about his feelings for Ginny, or indeed anyone - Ginny especially, but he knew that had he told them, Ron and Hermione's advice would be to tell her straight away. Harry wanted to wait until he saw her again, but the way Dumbledore had been talking at the end of last year, it didn't seem to likely he'd be going to the Burrow this summer. Yet Harry knew he couldn't hold his feelings in much longer. He'd have to write to her. Tonight would be a good idea, while everyone's asleep, so no one would notice Hedwig's appearance with no note for Ron. Yes, that's a good idea. As Harry grabbed a quill and the neatest piece of parchment he could find, he stared at the twelve-year-old Ginny in the photo and a thought occurred to him. He knew Ginny liked him - that would undoubtedly make things easier, but what if all she liked him for was his famous name, like Hermione had said about Krum last year. What if she grew tired of this one-sided celebrity relationship and turned her attention to something mutual and genuine with someone else? That's just a chance he's going to have to take, Harry told himself firmly. If that, indeed, was the case, there was nothing he could do about it, so after some mental planning, Harry wrote : Dear Ginny Hi, how are your holidays? I really hope you're enjoying them. There's something I really need to tell you - something that by rights, I should really be saying in person, but I don't know when I'll see you next, and I just can't hold this in any longer. Since the middle of last year, I've had you on my mind - and my heart. I know this sounds sudden, but really - I think you're wonderful, Ginny, and you really have captured my heart. My feelings for you have grown with every time I see, hear, or think about you, and I really feel like I HAVE to see you. I'm sorry for keeping you waiting for four years, I just really, really hope you haven't lost what little interest you've had in me. Please write back with whatever answer you've got. Love (you), Harry. Yes, that seemed about right. It only just covered his feelings for her, and Harry felt he'd better leave the details until he saw her. He folded it up, put the letter in an envelope and walked over to Hedwig. "Will you take this to the Burrow?" he said fondly to her. "But give it to Ginny. Not Ron or anyone else. Ginny. You know who she is, don't you?" Hedwig nipped his finger and with a soft hoot, she took off into the night, Harry watching her disappearing, wondering what sort of reply she'd bring back. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Chapter ( 2 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Summer Love Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. She, too, was thinking about things troubling her mind, overall it was Harry. Ginny had long ago learned to drop the affection she had for him as a famous celebrity, and started liking him for who he really was, the heroic teenager who had saved her in her first year from what was almost absolute death. Ever since, her awe of his great name and publicity had vanished and so began a genuine crush on him, gradually growing with every year. Now, three years afterwards, she knew that Harry had taught her the meaning of the word "love" and was even more devastated when Harry hadn't even considered inviting her to the Yule ball last year. Why? Ginny thought to herself, getting up from her bed and staring at herself in the mirror. Why didn't Harry like her? She tried looking objectively at her reflection in the full length mirror and told herself that she wasn't altogether ugly. She was slim, she had grown her orange hair to beyond her shoulders and it was now relatively sleek and shiny. Her physical maturity was showing, too, Ginny thought as she eyed her reflection's no longer flat chest, enlarged hips and slim waist. Tilting her head to the side, still staring at herself, Ginny thought she was even pretty. So, why didn't Harry show any interest in her, except the odd smile here or there when he arrives at the Burrow. Was it was because he, like the rest of her family, saw her as a child, being the youngest in the family? No one took her seriously, because there were always people older and wiser than her around. No. Harry wasn't like that. He was kind and understanding (quite apart from being incredible cute) and he wouldn't judge people by their age. Ginny thought of what Hermione had told her. Hermione was her best friend and the only person who truly knew about what Ginny felt for Harry. Hermione's advice wasn't exactly comforting, though. She had suggested that Ginny forgets about Harry and tries some other bloke. Oh yeah, Ginny thought as she left the mirror and sat on her bed, it was all right for Hermione, she was in a deep relationship with Ron. She supposed that once you were in a relationship, other people's romances don't really matter. Ginny put her head in her hands, the amber hair falling over her shoulders. What would she give for any sign of affection from Harry? Anything however distant..... Her thought were interrupted by a flutter of wings. Ginny looked up and saw a familiar pure-white owl with light-brown eyes perching on the windowsill holding an envelope. "Hedwig," Ginny smiled, walking up to the window, trying to force her hopes down. "I think you've made a mistake. Ron's room is two floors above. Just drop the note from Harry on his pillow and he'll...." Hedwig seemed to smile at her as she held out her leg. The envelope tied to it caught the moonlight illuminating the word "Ginny". Hands trembling, Ginny untied the envelope, pulled out the letter, flicked on a lamp and read her note. After re-reading the short letter several times over, Ginny felt she could have laughed. Heart pounding like a punch-bag, she grabbed a sheet of parchment, and wrote as neatly as possible with a shaking hand: Dear Harry, Thank you so much for that letter. It meant the world to me, it really did. Of course I haven't lost interest in you, silly, and you know how I feel about you - actually, you probably don't. I've loved you since you saved me from the Chamber of Secrets, well, actually it was just a crush at the time - but it's developed into, well, like I said, love. When can I see you, Harry? There's so much I'd like to say, but I can't. Not by owl post. I HAVE to see you. I can't thank you enough for that letter. Please write back - better do it at night, so no one finds out. Love(you, too), Yours forever, Ginny. Ginny tied the note to Hedwig's leg, but before she could fly off, Ginny hugged her and gave her one of Pig's owl treats. "Thanks, Hedwig," Ginny whispered. "Thank you so much." Ginny lay on her bed, heart feeling lighter than Hedwig's soaring wings, smiling to herself, enjoying the feeling that only love can give. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ « Previous Chapter ( 1 ) Next Chapter ( 3 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Summer Love Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. One of the letters Harry received, though was probably the worst thing that had happened to him all summer. It was a note from Dumbledore saying that due to certain security measures, what with Voldemort's return to power, Harry was denied permission to visit the Burrow that summer. Harry wrote to Ginny immediately, who replied by telling him they had already received the same letter. "I suppose we'll just have to meet on the Hogwarts Express, then," Harry had written glumly. "But there's a Hogsmeade weekend trip on the second week back, so we could get together there. Yeah, it could be our first date. What do you say, Gin?" Ginny's answer had been very enthusiastic, and so they planned their fist date together over several owls and nights. Neither of the could ever remember looking forward to something this much. * * * On September the first, Harry spotted the Weasleys at King's Cross standing between platforms nine and ten. As she caught his eye, Ginny had to fight an increasingly powerful urge to fling her arms around his neck, and by the look of it, so did Harry. Instead he smiled at her as he usually did, and shook hands with the Weasleys and accepted a hug from Mrs. Weasley. Harry and Ginny made sure they were the last pair to walk through the barrier, and once everyone else had slid through it, Ginny swiftly kissed Harry on the cheek before they walked though the metal. Further communication throughout the train journey and the start-of-term feast was impossible without arousing suspicion, so, when they reached the crowded common room after the feast, Harry pressed a note into Ginny's hand as they headed towards their dormitories. Not until Ginny was in bed, with the curtain around it drawn did Ginny read the note. It said: Meet me at the Gryffindor common room at five fifteen tomorrow morning. Trust me, I know what I'm doing. All my love, Harry. At five o clock the following morning, Ginny, awake and dressed, examined herself for the thousandth time in the mirror. Having tried countless different ways of doing her hair, she finally undid her ponytail (her previous idea) and let her hair fall over her shoulders. She was about to decide whether she looked all right, and whether she deserved Harry, when she suddenly noticed she was five minutes late. She brushed her hair swiftly for an eighteenth time that morning, and dashed down the stairs into the common room, where Harry stood smiling at her in that heart-stopping way of his. She smiled back, as she walked over to him. "Fancy a walk, Gin?" Harry asked, quietly. "Okay," Ginny replied and Harry took her hand. "But won't we get in trouble for being out of bed this early?" Harry smiled. "I told you I know what I'm doing, didn't I?" He held up the Invisibility Cloak. Within a few minutes, they had reached the Entrance Hall doors, which Harry opened with a flick of his wand and they stepped out onto the grounds. The first traces of sunlight were creeping over the lake, reflecting magnificently in the still water. Harry led Ginny to the edge of the lake, where he took off the Cloak, and stared into her amazing amber eyes. Ginny gazed dreamily into Harry's, startled slightly by just how enchantingly green they were. For a moment, neither of them said nothing. Then Ginny whispered, "What made you write to me that night?" "I told you, I couldn't stop thinking about you," Harry replied, hoping he didn't sound too corny. "And it was something I had been meaning to tell you for months." "You never showed any affection for me before," said Ginny, hoping she didn't sound accusing. "I mean, you did say you started loving me from last year. Why didn't you...." "Invite you to the Yule ball?" Harry asked, softly. "Because, unfortunately, I hadn't fallen under your spell yet." "Oh, I see," Ginny smiled sweetly. "So when did you "fall under my spell'?" " A few weeks afterwards. I was out trying to figure out the clue the clue to the Second Task, and I nearly got in loads of trouble with Snape and Filch, so when I got back to the portrait hole, I bumped into you and I got this weird tingling all over me and I sort of saw you in a different light...." "Yeah, moonlight," smiled Ginny, and Harry smiled back. "And my feelings sort of developed into something really strong," Harry continued. "It's like...." He struggled to find the appropriate word. Ginny, however, seemed to have guessed it. "Love?" she suggested timidly. Harry nodded. Ginny threw her arms around his neck and kissed him lightly on the lips, and Harry joined in. Their kiss was brief, yet warm and emotional, and neither of them really wanted it to end. When it did, Harry, never removing his gaze from those astonishing bronze eyes of Ginny's, said softly, "I love you, Ginny." Ginny looked back at him, smiled sweetly and replied, "I love you, too, Harry. Not your famous name, not your scar, just you - the wonderful Harry Potter that has captured my heart for three years." They leaned forward and shared another kiss, a deep, passionate one that lasted longer than the previous one. When their faces finally drew apart, Harry whispered, "Next time there's a Yule ball, you'll be my first and only choice." Ginny beamed at him. "Thanks, Harry." "So, are we still on for next week?" asked Harry. "The Hogsmeade visit? Our first date?" "You bet!" Ginny exclaimed, placing her arms around Harry again. "I've heard "Cupid's" do some pretty romantic meals and settings. That's a restaurant overlooking the river at the other end of the village." She added, catching Harry's bemused expression. "Great! We'll settle for that, then," smiled Harry. "I can't wait." "Me neither." "Oh, Ginny, do you reckon we should tell anyone, you know about us?" "Ron and Hermione, you mean?" she asked. "Yeah, well, if we're going to Hogsmeade together, I'm going to need to find a good excuse not to go with them," Harry replied. " I mean we always go together...." "I've already told Hermione," Ginny said. " She's a good friend of mine, so I tell her most things. Yeah, you can tell Ron if you like, but if I know them they'll be begging you not to go with them." "What do you mean?" Harry asked, startled. " They're in love, too," said Ginny, smiling. "With each other. Hermione came to our house this summer, and they were never apart, except for at night, of course - Hermione slept in my room. They thought they were keeping it secret but we all saw them kissing quite a few times, and doing a few other things, if you know what I mean" (she gave a small cough) "....anyway, don't worry. You don't need to think of an excuse. Hermione says they're also going on their first date, so we can alone." "Great!" Harry beamed. "Wonderful." They kissed briefly again, and walked up to the castle for breakfast, hand in hand. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ « Previous Chapter ( 2 ) Next Chapter ( 4 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Summer Love Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. It wasn't until he had ticked off five days - five extremely slow days in Harry's opinion - that anyone else had noticed it. "Days left till next Hogsmeade visit," Ron read aloud off the top of the piece of parchment pinned to Harry's headboard. " What do you need that for, Harry? I mean," he gave a small laugh, " school's not that bad." Harry didn't answer. He was thinking of Ginny constantly, and only half-listened to what anyone else ever said nowadays. He hadn't told Ron about his relationship with Ginny yet, though he had been meaning to. " Uh, Harry, about this coming Hogsmeade visit," Ron began awkwardly. Harry's attention snapped immediately to Ron. "No offence meant, mate, but would you mind not going with me and Hermione this time?" "Why not?" Harry knew the answer, but still wanted to hear it. "Well, Hermione and I, we're, well," Ron couldn't put the words together into a full sentence, and his ears turned bright pink. Harry laughed. "It's all right, Ron, I know," Harry smiled. "Know what?" "That you and Hermione are well, in a relationship," Harry replied. "How...." "Ginny told me." "Ginny?" Ron suddenly became suspicious. "Since when are you on such close terms with Ginny?" "Since the summer," Harry replied simply. "We really like each other a lot and we're, well, like you and Hermione. We've got our first date on Saturday as well." Ron narrowed his eyes. "You know, Harry, if I didn't know you better I'd think you were taking advantage of my sister." Harry was stunned. "Take advantage of her? Why on earth would I do that?" "Oh, I don't know," said Ron in mock thoughtfulness. "You could be disappointed, maybe, that Cho went for Diggory instead of you? Or that Fleur isn't here to smother you with kisses every time she sees you for saving her sister? Oh, and then there's the fact that Ginny's always had a soft spot for you...." "I'm not taking advantage of her," Harry said quietly, both shocked and hurt that Ron could even think of such a thing. Ron raised an eyebrow, frowning. "Don't you believe me?" Harry asked. "Well, I just think it's extremely odd that one second you're chasing part-Veelas and older attractive Quidditch players, and next second, once the other two are off limits, you turn your attention to a girl you know likes you who's a whole year younger than you...." "I am NOT taking advantage of Ginny!" Harry repeated, less hurt and more angry this time. "Yeah, well, that's what you'd say if you were taking advantage of her," muttered Ron shortly. "But I'm not!" Harry retorted, his voice rising. Then, feeling it was pointless to keep it in any longer added, "I love her, all right?" Ron was looking at Harry the way he often looked at Malfoy. "Yeah, I bet that's what you tell her, too. Raise her little spirits....poor kid's probably skipping with joy, only to be brought down to earth whenever someone older and more attractive comes along and...." "I WOULD NEVER EVER HURT GINNY!" Harry shouted. "AND I DO LOVE HER! AND SHE LOVES ME AND NOTHING - NOTHING! YOU CAN SAY OR DO IS GOING TO STOP US SEEING EACH OTHER, ALL RIGHT?" Harry turned on his heel and stormed out of the dormitory, slamming the door behind him. * * * Over the next few days, Harry pondered on Ron's behaviour. Why didn't he believe Harry? Why didn't he slap him on the back and congratulate him? How could he be so unfair? The only time Harry ever remembered Ron being like that was after Harry's name came out of the Goblet of Fire, but that was due to jealousy. But Ron's reaction couldn't possibly be for jealousy reasons, because Ron himself had Hermione, and Harry couldn't think of anyone who would make a better girlfriend or lover for Ron other than her. So what was his problem? Two days later, Ginny called Harry over for a quick word as he was coming out of Transfiguration. "Hermione told me about your row with Ron," she began. "And Ron said some things about you and me splitting up, about you taking advan - " "But you don't believe him, do you?" Harry asked anxiously. "Of course not," Ginny replied softly, running her hand through his hair fondly. "I know you love me and I love you, but...." "But?" "But, well, Ron's been your best friend for years - your FIRST friend, and I'd hate for your friendship to end because of me...." "So, so what are you saying?" Harry asked, frantically. "That we should stop seeing each other?" "I just want you and Ron to...." But Harry interrupted. "No! We can't break up! I know Ron's one of my best friends, but I love you, and I wouldn't give you up for anything! Not even for a friendship with a person who can't tell the difference between real love and one-sided selfishness, and accuses his best friend of doing it! You're the best thing that's happened to me, Gin, and between you and Ron, I choose you." Ginny was slightly taken aback by Harry's words, but then smiled and said, "Thanks, Harry." They leaned forward to kiss, but their lips had barely touched, when McGonagall barked at them to break it up. So they settled for a "see you the day after tomorrow!" and an "I'll be there!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------ « Previous Chapter ( 3 ) Next Chapter ( 5 ) » ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Summer Love Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff. Less than twelve away, he would be heading into Hogsmeade with Ginny for his first date ever. He was also a lot more self-conscience about his appearance, and his untidy black hair seemed even messier than usual. Countless times he tried to smooth it out a bit, but without success. Eventually, he asked Hermione if he could use the hair gel she had used for the Yule ball. "What do you want that for?" she inquired, curiously. "Well, tomorrow, I'm supposed to be going to Hogsmeade with Ginny," he replied awkwardly. "You know, our first date...." His voice tailed away. Hermione understood. She ran up to her dormitory and returned with a bottle of what looked like ordinary Muggle shampoo. "Here you go, Harry," she said, handing it to him. "But you know, I think Ginny likes you the way you are. I don't think you need to start with hair gels and so on to impress her, because it's just not you." Harry smiled at her, and handed the gel back. "Thanks, Hermione." "So, where is it you're going?" "Cupid's," Harry replied. "Oh, Ron was going to take me there," Hermione said. "But he couldn't affo- I mean, he decided we'd hire a Wild Goose broomstick - that's supposed to be the gentlest, most comfortable broom for two - and have a nice, romantic flight across the countryside together." She looked very excited. Harry was still angry with Ron for his suspicions about Harry's feelings for Ginny being false, but he was still very happy for Hermione, and he told her so. She beamed at him and wished him luck for tomorrow. Feeling extremely light-hearted and still a bit nervous, Harry went to bed, hoping the following day will come sooner if he had an early night. The following morning, Harry set off down the main street of Hogsmeade, with one arm around Ginny, who had her head resting on his shoulder. Both of them were wearing, not their usual school uniforms, but dress robes. Harry, while feeling that the bottle-green dress robes Mrs. Weasley had bought him the previous year were hardly any more elegant than his black school robes, decided that it would still show Ginny he was making an effort to make the date more special. Ginny, who hadn't needed dress robes the previous year, had bought herself a pair over the summer ever since Harry had started writing to her. These were a brilliant bluey-purple which Harry thought brought out her astonishing eyes even more. Harry didn't care what people would think if they saw him and Ginny together like that. He didn't even care if Rita Skeeter announced to the whole world about him and Ginny, even if she was thinking along the same lines Ron was. While their fellow students were making their way to Zonkos, Dervish and Banges, Honeydukes and the Three Broomsticks, Harry and Ginny made their way further down the main road to a part of the village Harry had never been to. At the very end of the road, by a large lake, stood a very posh-looking restaurant with the word "Cupid's" written in smart gold lettering on the sign above the door. As they entered, what looked like a house-elf with wings and a load of heart-tipped arrows slung over his shoulder showed them to a table at the very end of the restaurant. Ginny and Harry took their seats at the far table and as they did, a rainbow arose around them surrounding them from all sides. As they held hands across the table and smiled at each other, neither Harry nor Ginny could think of anything to say, so, to cover the silence, Harry signaled to a smart-looking winged house-elf, who took their orders for food. As they waited for their food, Harry looked at Ginny and said, "Ginny?" Something in Harry's tone made Ginny think Harry was about to ask her to marry him, which of course was impossible, as they were both still in their mid-teens, but Ginny was still hopeful. "Yes, Harry?" "Why me?" "S-Sorry?" "Why do love me?" Harry stammered, knowing how stupid he sounded. "I mean, there are so many other guys that are well, better than I am. Why - why do you love me if it's not because I'm famous?" Harry instantly wished he hadn't opened his mouth, and wondered why he did. She was dating him, for crying out loud, so why did he have to say such a stupid thing? Ginny, however, smiled. "I've told you before and I'll tell you again," she replied, softly, smiling sweetly. "I love you because of who you are. Your wonderful, caring personality. I couldn't care less what you've done in the past and how many books you're in and what you've got on your forehead. I love you - the you I know now, the Harry Potter who has stolen my heart. And in my opinion, no, there isn't any guy out there who's better than you. I mean," she said, slightly awkwardly, "I could ask the same thing about you. In fact, I had been meaning to. Why not Cho? Or that Beauxbatons champion, or Parvati, or Hermione (I saw her kissing you at King's Cross)? Why do love me - if you're not taking advantage of me?" she added smiling, cheekily. Harry grinned at her. "The only thing I liked about Cho was that she was pretty, and I'd given up on her ages ago. I never really liked Fleur at all, she was just grateful for what I did for her sister in the Second Task. There was never anything between me and Parvati - I only took her to the ball because I couldn't find anyone else, and I don't know if you remember but I spent most of last year trying to convince the world that Hermione's not my girlfriend. "But you're different, Gin. You don't choose who you fall in love with, and I fell for you. I don't know why, or why it took so long but like I said, you're the best thing that's happened to me. And the fact that you're more stunningly gorgeous than Fleur, Cho and all the other girls and Veelas in the world put together, well, I just take that as a bonus." "Thanks, Harry," smiled Ginny. They finished their food in silence. When they were done, Harry became aware that to their left stood what looked like a ballroom, and he could make out some music coming from it. "Want to dance?" he asked Ginny, rather timidly. "OK," she smiled. Harry took her hand and they passed through the rainbow surrounding the table. They entered the ballroom and glanced around. The floor seemed to be made of solid water. Their clear reflections in it rippled with every footstep. The rest of the room was just a mixture of lights, colours and music all blended together. They embraced in a tight hug. Harry stared at their reflections in the water-like floor. The scene seemed extremely familiar to him, though he couldn't think how - neither he nor Ginny had ever been here before or in any situation similar to this, but then he stared at his reflection's face, then at Ginny's and he understood. This scene was almost identical to one of the photographs in the album of his parents Hagrid had given Harry in his first year. Apparently, it was taken on their honeymoon, and Harry staring from the reflective Ginny to the real one he was hugging suddenly noticed just how much she resembled his mum. She was just as pretty (if not more) and she had the same colour hair. Of course, Harry was always being told how much he looked like his dad, and the feeling that he and Ginny were together seemed even more wonderful. He hoped that some day, he and Ginny might be able to share a future like his parents did until they were killed. "Do you think anyone from the school saw us?" Ginny asked suddenly, interrupting Harry's thoughts. "Does it matter?" Harry replied, kissing the back her hand. "We haven't got anything to hide. We're in love, and that's hardly something to be ashamed of, is it?" Ginny ran her fingers through Harry's hair affectionately. "No, it isn't." They leaned forward and joined in their first real kiss. Their mouths were slightly open as their lips touched, and stayed frozen momentarily like that before they locked in a deep passionate French kiss. Their tongues were alive, worming their ways up and down the mouths and throats. Harry felt that he and Ginny were one - two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, finally united. Harry even felt they shared the same heartbeat, as Ginny's arms wound themselves around his neck, while he pressed Ginny's body closer to his. Neither of them wanted that special moment to end - they were quite happy to stand there, swaying lightly in the soft music in each other's arms, fastened together with their mouths for the rest of eternity. This ridiculous thought quickly blended into a wish that he and Ginny could share a bed that night, which lasted for a moment before transforming into another idea that he could just go and Stun the whole world, then stand like this with Ginny forever.... Ginny, on her part, could hardly dare to believe this was happening in real life. This just seemed like a more realistic version of a dream she had had many, many times before and even more frequently since Harry became her pen-pal, then boyfriend. Harry pulled Ginny's body closer to his and put his hand on the back of her head, trying to push Ginny's mouth deeper into his. This was wonderful, this was heaven! A sudden high-pitched beeping sound rudely interrupted the soft music engulfing them. Extremely reluctantly, Ginny released her lips from Harry's mouth's grasp and asked "what's that?" "The alarm on my watch," said Harry, taking his hand off Ginny's back and shutting the alarm up. "You get that on Muggle watches, it's to remind you of a specific time you set it for..." Harry explained, catching Ginny's bemused expression. "Blimey!" Harry exclaimed, seeing the time. "We should have been back at school half an hour ago!" They sprinted to the front of the restaurant, paid a house-elf twelve Galleons, and ran towards Hogwarts. They reached the castle ten minutes later, and once inside they slowed their pace to a casual walk. "I wish we didn't have to wait for a Hogsmeade trip before we can that again," said Ginny, as they climbed a staircase. "We don't," Harry replied, grinning. "Fred and George's Marauder's Map that shows all the secret passageways from Hogwarts to Hogsmeade, so we can go any time we like! And I've got the Invisibility Cloak, so no one will ever know." "Brilliant!" Ginny exclaimed. "That's...." "Ginny!" called a voice behind them. They spun around and saw Professor Lupin (he'd come to teach again for Harry's fifth year) with his head popping out of his office. "Hello, Harry! Been to Hogsmeade?" "Yeah, it was great!" Harry grinned, winking at Ginny. "Good. Ginny, I was wondering if I could have a word with you on your Boggart essay, if you don't mind?" asked Lupin. "OK," she replied, looking reluctant to leave Harry. Harry kissed Ginny on the cheek - quite aware that Lupin was watching - and whispered "don't be long, Gin." He smiled at Ginny and Lupin, and turned in the direction of the common room, catching the wink and thumbs-up from Lupin. The castle was very quiet. Everyone else was at supper, but Harry, who didn't feel hungry at all made his way to Gryffindor Tower. From the other side of the Fat Lady's portrait, Harry heard two voices talking rather loudly, and it sounded like they were arguing. He recognised them as being Ron and Hermione's so he gave the password, and begged the Fat Lady to swing quietly on her hinges as she let him in. He hid in the shadows , quite aware that should Ron or Hermione turn their heads they'd see him, and since he couldn't hear anything they were saying from this end of the room, anyway, he pulled out his wand and whispered "Accio Invisibility Cloak!". The Cloak slid out of his dormitory and he grabbed it, pulled it on and headed for Ron and Hermione, who were standing up in front of the fire on the verge of an argument. "...I can't believe you're accusing Harry of doing such an awful thing!" said Hermione. "Well, I just think it's fishy that he drops all his fantasies with older, beautiful girls for a girl who's younger than him, got much less going for her, and he knows she's been mad about him for years! Don't you think it's odd?" "Ron," said Hermione calmly. "you and I know better than anyone that you don't pick who you fall in love with and when. Maybe last year it just wasn't the right time for them to get together yet, and now it is, but at least give him the benefit of the doubt." "Look, I know Harry's my friend, and I ought to trust him...." Ron began. "Yes, you should!" "....but Ginny's my sister and I think my responsibilities for her take priority to Harry's. Ginny's been through a lot already. All that stuff in the Chamber of Secrets.....poor kid...I should think Harry of all people would know not to go hurting her after all that. He was the one that saved her and knew the whole story...." "But you don't know Harry's going to hurt Ginny!" Hermione said loudly. "Why would he? Has it not occurred to you that maybe he really is in love with her? Or how hurt he must feel knowing that his best friend doesn't believe him - again! He's not taking advantage of Ginny - he loves her!" "How do I know that?" asked Ron. "You want proof?" "If you've got some...." "All right," said Hermione, quietly. "You love me, don't you?" "What?" "Ron, do you love me?" Hermione repeated. Ron dropped his indignant manner at once, replacing it with a concerned one. He took Hermione's hand and looked her. "Of course I do, Hermione, you know I do. More than anything or anyone or...." Hermione beamed. "Good. And I love you, Ron, very very much. But have you ever seen Harry after he's been talking to Ginny, writing to her, making eye-contact with her, thinking about her or having anything to do her?" "No," said Ron slowly, wondering what possible connection it could have with his and Hermione's relationship. "Well I have," she replied. " and Harry looks the way I feel whenever I'm with you." she blushed slightly but kept going. "Harry's told me what he feels for Ginny, and just the look on his face when he just mentions her name - there's no way he could be lying. And I'll tell you this, Ron, every word he's said about what's going on in his heart and mind concerning Ginny is exactly what I think and feel when I have anything to do with you." She kissed him briefly on his cheek before continuing. "And if that isn't good enough proof, I don't know what is." Ron bowed his, rather like Dobby used to when he had done something wrong. He tried talking, but nothing came out so Hermione went on, in a soft, soothing voice. "Look, Ron. I know you had Ginny's best interests at heart, but the fact is whatever you said to both her and Harry might have finished off their relationship. And that's going to hurt Ginny much, much more than anything Harry could do to her, because it was her own brother who brought on her misery." Ron looked up at Hermione, looking ashamed and timid. "You're right. I'm an idiot. I don't know how I could ever suspect Harry. I don't know what came over me...." Under the Cloak, Harry laughed. Now THAT was the Ron he knew and loved. Ron was cut short by Hermione who laughed and said "Oh, cut the talk and come here!" She threw her arms around him and kissed him firmly on the lips. Harry pulled off the Cloak, smiling, feeling very happy for his two best friends. Just then, the portrait hole swung open, and someone walked in. It was Ginny. As always when Ginny was around, the rest of the world went mysteriously blurred in Harry's vision and the only thing in clear focus was her. "Hi, Harry," she said softly. "Hi. What did Lupin want?" "He gave me full marks on my Boggart essay and gave me thirty points to Gryffindor," she replied, proudly. "Congratulations, Gin," smiled Harry, kissing her. Ginny's kiss became rather subdued, though, once she noticed Ron and Hermione staring at them from across the room. She pushed Harry off, and when he opened his mouth to ask why, she nodded in their direction. "Oh," said Harry. Hermione beamed at them. "Well, you two love-birds, how did it go?" Ginny, throwing Ron a nervous glance, replied, "Wonderful. Couldn't have been better, right, Harry?" Harry nodded, grinning. "Great! Well, we're really happy for you, aren't we Ron?" said Hermione. "Yeah, we are," said Ron looking apologetically at Harry. "Look, mate, I'm really sorry. I just - " "It's all right, Ron, I understand," grinned Harry. "Forgive me?" "Yeah, okay." The four of them sat down on the various couches and armchairs by the fire, discussing their dates. "Oh, it was terrific," said Hermione. "We hired this broomstick at the Broom Hire place near Dervish and Banges. And Ron flew me out of the village over this gorgeous scenery, then we stopped on top of this mountain, and had a small picnic, and we chatted and did some kissing - lots of it, actually...." Meanwhile Harry and Ron were talking. "Sorry, again, Harry," said Ron for the fourth time. "I know you never....." "I told you it's all right. So, how long have you and Hermione been together?" "Since the end of last year. Remember Hermione kissed you at the train station? Well, I asked her why she did that and she said "So Harry doesn't feel jealous when I do this," and she kissed me too, except this was on the lips, and you know I liked her since the Yule ball, so it sort of went on from there." "Great!" said Harry. "And have you and Ginny.....? You know," Ron said, nodding towards them dormitories. "What?" said Harry. "You know...." he indicated the dorms again. "Oh, that!" said Harry with a small laugh. "No. Why, have you and Hermione?" "Well, she stayed at my house over the summer and one night, after everyone else went to bed....well, let's just say she didn't sleep in Ginny's room that night like she always does." Harry didn't say anything. He was torn between amazement and shock. "I could give you a few pointers," Ron went on, grinning. "If you and Ginny ever get to that...." Ginny must have heard what they were saying, because she was staring at Harry, as though waiting for an answer herself. "We'll see," smiled Harry, winking at Ginny. She smiled back. Author's note: Anyway, there you have it. I still don't know whether I should write some more and maybe focus a bit more on the (ahem) night-time activities and change the rating by a bit or not..... If you review, could you please let me know about that bit. I don't know. If I do it could ruin the story........ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ « Previous Chapter ( 5 ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Review Story ( be a responsible reader and write a review) Title: Summer Love Name: Email: (optional) Review: If you feel that this entry violates any of the guidelines set by FanFiction.Net please click here to notify the staff.
