The she grabbed her backpack, and bounded downstairs, sitting down at the kitchen counter. "Hey, Mom, thanks for letting my friends stay here while Daddy's gone." She said. "I'm happy to have them over. I'd like to meet this Ron you talk about so much." Her mother said, grinning. "Promise you won't mention that, Mom!" Hermione sighed. "I won't! Oh, get that owl out of the kitchen!" her mom squealed, as Shayna entered the room. Shayna dropped the letters and flew back to Hermione's room. "It's just an owl." Hermione smirked. She opened the first letter to see Ginny's handwriting. Dear Hermione, I got mom to say yes! I used the 'you and dad can spend more time together' speech. She bought it! Ron's ecstatic, by the way. Hmm, I wonder what that means? Mom and Dad will drop us off tomorrow at 4:30 sharp! (Hold on, I have to get Ron to calm down so he can sign this.) See ya, Ron and Ginny Hermione smirked at the letter. They were always like that. She reached for the second letter, which was from Harry. Hermione, Hey! It took a little while, but I finally won over Uncle Vernon. I used the 'Sirius' card. Uncle Vernon, even though he won't use this word, NEEDS me to work around the house, because Dudley won't get off his fat butt. Dudley won't even be around while I'm gone, because he's going to be visiting his friend Piers Polkiss. Uncle Vernon tomorrow afternoon! Bye, Harry "Mom!" Hermione screeched. "Yes, Hermione? Where's the fire?" "You know the neighbor? The rat boy? Piers? What's his last name?" "Polkiss, I believe." Hermione swore under her breath so her mother wouldn't hear. She did not need this. Piers was the scum of the earth. No make that lower than scum. And he was always asking her out. "Just great." She muttered. The next day, Hermione woke up around noon. She had stayed up late, thinking. Mostly about Ron, though. She had lunch, and finished up the last homework she had to do over the summer. (Which didn't take long.) She changed into her swimming suit and went out side to sit in the sun. Piers Polkiss stared at her from over the fence. He whistled, and Hermione shot up, eyes open. "What do you want, Piers?" she snapped. "My friends will be here soon." "I want what I always want. A date with you." "In your dreams, rat-boy." "If you only knew what was in my dreams." He leered. Hermione shuddered. "My, my, who is this lovely thing?" Piers asked. Hermione turned to see Ginny. "Hey." She sighed. "I'm trying to get rid of him." Harry and Ron soon came out to join them. "Harry! Ron!" she squealed, hugging them, and then hugging Ginny. "I missed you all so much." Piers gaped at them. "You're friends with Potter?" "You!" Harry yelled. "That means Dudley is over there!" "Go away, Piers." Hermione snapped. She sighed and turned to face her friends, and then looked down at herself and turned red. "Oh, um, I should probably go change." She said, running inside. "Enjoying the view, Ron?" Harry grinned. "Harry!" Ron groaned, looking embarrassed. Hermione soon bounded back outside. They all sat pool side trying to catch up on things. They burst out laughing about something. Suddenly, Hermione shushed them. Shem walked over to the fence, and kicked a loose floorboard upward. A painful groan was heard, and then there were four other voices laughing. "Piers!" Hermione shrieked angrily. "Why were you spying on us? And who else is over there?" Four other large boys poked their heads over the fence, followed by a timid looking Piers. "Um...Hermione, this is Malcolm, Gordon, Dudley, and Dennis. They're staying over for a while." Hermione glared at him. "Look, you circus freak-show reject, my friends are staying over for two weeks, and you aren't to spy on us! My friends never get to come over, so this is special, and I don't want you ruining it!" Piers opened up the gate to the fence, and sidled up to Hermione. "Aw, come on, you know you want me." He said in an oily voice. Hermione clenched a fist, but Ron grabbed her arm before it collided with Piers' jaw. He dragged her backwards. "Come on, 'Mione, you don't want to hit him." He laughed. "Yes I do!" she said, trying to wrench free. Ron put his arms around her middle to hold down her arms. She immediately relaxed. "Hey, that guy's got his hands on your girlfriend, Piers!" Dennis laughed stupidly. "Girlfriend?" Hermione spat. "I am not his girlfriend." "He said you were." Dudley added. "Well he lied!" "Is that cut little red head your girlfriend? Cause if she isn't..." Malcolm started. "Naw, I don't know the scrawny one." Piers shrugged. "Scrawny? I'll show you scrawny..." "Alright, Ginny. Don't get angry. They aren't as tough as they look. You could hurt them." Harry said calmly. "Are they as stupid as they look?" Ron muttered. "Come on." Hermione said. The next evening, they went out to a club. They were dancing when someone familiar bumped into Ginny. "Hey!" she said, rubbing her back. "Weasley." A cold voice said. They turned around to see Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson. "What are you doing here, Malfoy?" Harry growled. "I'm just out with my girlfriend." Draco said. "Girlfriend?" Hermione said, giggling. "Yeah, what's so funny?" Pansy said irritably. "We never expected you two to start dating!" Ginny laughed. "Well, no body expected it from you all, either." Draco glared. "What are you talking about?" Ron said, eyes narrowing. "Oh, please, Weasley. People aren't blind. Everyone knows you and Granger have got it bad for each other, and the same goes for Potter and your sister." Draco sneered. "We have first names!" Ginny said harshly. "Let's just ignore them." Hermione said, pulling Ron away. Harry and Ginny sat down, watching Ron and Hermione dance. "They are so cute together." Ginny sighed. "Will she ever tell him?" "Tell him what?" Harry asked. "That she loves him." "He loves her, too, you know." "Why won't he tell her then?" "He's just as scared as she is, Gin." Hermione and Ron walked over, laughing. "What's so funny?" Harry asked, grinning. "Nothing!" Hermione said quickly, and then she yawned. "Tired?" Ron said. She nodded. "Well, we're ready to go." Ginny said. "Ok, then." Hermione said, yawning again. In one swift motion, Ron picked her up and carried her out to the car. "You're insane." She laughed. "You said you were tired!" he said innocently. "Yeah." She admitted softly. Ron plopped her down in the backseat and scooted in next to her. Harry slid into the driver's seat, and Ginny sat next to him in the passenger side. Harry held out his hand. "Keys." Hermione tossed him the car keys. Harry turned on the radio, and Hermione dropped her head onto Ron's shoulder, falling asleep. Ron grinned down at her. Leaning his head against the seat, he, too, fell asleep. Harry soon pulled into the driveway of the Granger's house, and Mrs. Granger came out to meet them. "Did everyone have fun?" Harry pointed at Ron and Hermione. "They did." Ginny gently shook Ron. "Ron? Ron, wake up. We're back." "Huh? Oh, hey." He yawned. Ginny reached out to wake Hermione, but Ron stopped her. "No, she's tired. We shouldn't wake her up. She doesn't weigh a thing, so I'll carry her upstairs." Ron picked her up and carried her upstairs. He tucked her into bed, and when he made sure she wasn't going to wake up, he flipped off the light and walked out of the room. The next morning, Hermione sat up in bed, yawning. She showered, changed her clothing, and looked around for Ginny. She was nowhere to be seen. She walked over to the boy's room, and noticed Harry was gone. Probably downstairs with Ginny, she thought. She kneeled next to Ron's bed and smiled at him. She touched his forehead. "He's so sweet looking when he's asleep. He looks so innocent and happy." "You think he's cute?" a voice said. Hermione whirled around to see Ginny and Harry grinning at her from the doorway. "Er, hey, guys." She said, turning red. "Hey, Hermione. Are you going to wake him up or just stare at him." Harry smirked. Hermione looked back at Ron. "I'll wake him up, you guys just go back downstairs." They nodded and left. "Ron? Ron, wake up." She said quietly. "Hermione..." he said in his sleep. "Ron?" He opened one eye, and then grinned, opening the other. "'Morning, 'Mione." "Hey. I didn't want to wake you up, but Harry and Ginny are getting antsy." "'Kay. I'll be right down." "Alright." She said. When she reached the door, she turned around to face him. "Thanks for not waking me up last night." "You looked to peaceful to disturb." He said. She smiled, and walked downstairs, absently chewing on her index finger nail. She sat down next to Ginny and ate her pancakes in silence, spacing out. "Hermione? Hello, Hermione? Hey, Ron." Harry said. Hermione snapped out of her trance. "Huh?" Ron slid into his seat next to Harry. "That's funny. The minute Ron's name is mentioned, Hermione comes back to reality." Ginny grinned, arching an eyebrow. Hermione turned bright red. Later that afternoon, Ron and Harry went swimming while Hermione and Ginny sat out in the sun. Ron got out of the pool and stood over Hermione. "Are you going to get in voluntarily, or are we going to have throw you two in?" "You wouldn't dare." "Try me." Hermione grinned, and shut her eyes again. "Alright, you asked for it." Ron and Harry picked them up and heaved them into the pool. Hermione came up spitting water. "Ron!" "Yeah?" he grinned. "I cannot believe you did that!" Ginny crawled out of the pool. "Potter!" "Yes, Gin?" Harry said, smiling innocently. Ginny grunted, wringing out her hair. Hermione sat on the edge of the pool, feet dangling in the water. Ginny floated next to her. "Someone likes Ron." She sang softly. "Is it that obvious?" "A blind man in America could see you like him." Two hands covered Hermione's eyes. "Guess who?" "Hmm...I don't know, Ron?" "You win." He grinned. "I always do. He grinned and sat down next to her. Someone came up behind Hermione and tapped her on the shoulder, causing her to jump. And that sent her headfirst into the pool. Ron gave her a hand out of the pool. "What do you want, Piers?" she snarled. "Um, you see, Hermione, um, Dudley dared me to do something." Piers said, his skin chalk-white. "Get to the point." She said, tapping her foot impatiently. He kissed her and ran. Hermione screamed wordlessly, and chased after him. Ron grabbed her. "Let me at him, Ron, let me kill him." She said angrily. "You don't want to kill him." He said calmly. "Yeah, you're right. I want to see him writhing in pain on the ground!" "Come on." He said, dragging her away from the fence. Hermione sniffed and laid out in the sun. "If he so much as looks at her ever again, so help me, I'll kill him." Ron growled. Harry snorted. "You've got it bad." "Yeah, yeah. I know. And so do you." "This isn't about me!" That evening, Hermione's mother cooked them a large dinner, and the five sat down at the table. "So tell me about yourselves." Mrs. Granger smiled. "Mum..." Hermione groaned. "They won't mind!" her mother said defensively. "Yes, Ron, tell her about yourself." Ginny grinned. "Who's the lucky girl who gets to date you, Ron?" Mrs. Granger asked. She, Harry, and Ginny all looked from Ron to Hermione pointedly. "Um, I'm not dating anyone at the moment, Mrs. Granger." Ron said, turning pink. "Please, call me Alison." Hermione turned to Ginny. "What about you, Ginny, any new boyfriends you'd like to talk about?" "And, you, Harry? Girlfriends?" Ron said. Harry and Ginny both blushed. Hermione was getting ready for bed that night when something whacked her in the head. She turned around to see Ginny holding a pillow in her hand. "What you did at dinner was cold, Hermione." "All's fair!" Hermione said, grabbing the nearest pillow and smacking her back. Soon, it was an all out pillow fight. Harry and Ron heard them, and came over to see what was going on. Ginny and Hermione nodded to each other, and started attacking the boys. "Hey!" Harry said, before Ginny hit him in the face. "Aw, that's it." Ron said, and he and Harry took the girls down. "Ok, I give up!" Ginny said loudly. "What about you, Hermione?" Ron said, tickling her. "Ok, ok!" she gasped out. Hermione's mother appeared. "What is going on?" "A pillow fight gone horribly wrong." Hermione sighed. "Well, everyone get to bed." Mrs. Granger said, a faint smile playing on her lips. The next day, Hermione decided to show them the mall. "I think I'm going to get my belly-button pierced." She said thoughtfully, as they all got into her car. "I might, too." Ginny grinned. "Gin, Mom would kill you." Ron laughed. "Even better." When they got to the mall, Hermione happily jumped out of the car. "Ok, slow down girl." Harry said. Finally, Hermione spotted a place where they pierced belly-buttons. "Can you wait here for us?" Ginny asked. Harry and Ron nodded. A little later, Hermione and Ginny came out with identical silver rings. "Who wants lunch?" Hermione asked. "I do. I'm hungry." Harry said, almost instantaneously. Ginny laughed and patted his stomach. "You're always hungry, Harry." "You noticed?" "It's hard not to." She said. A few days later, Hermione settled onto the porch swing, and steadily pushed herself back and forth. Ron walked over and sat down next to her. "Hey, 'Mione. What's up?" "I've just been thinking about how much we all have changed, that's all." She smiled. "We have?" "Yeah. Have you noticed how you and I haven't been fighting much lately? And Harry and Ginny are walking around like a couple." "Well, I know why we haven't been fighting, but I can't vouch for those two." "Why, then?" "Because I care about you. I hate that look you get when you're sad, and I hate it even more when I know I caused it." She smiled at him. "That was my answer, too." "You know what else?" "Hmm?" "I've grown to like you more than ever." He whispered. "I like you more than ever, too." She said softly. At that, he kissed her. When they pulled away, they saw seven faces peering at them, with mixed expressions. Two of them were Harry and Ginny, who were grinning. The other five were Piers, Malcolm, Gordon, Dennis, and Dudley. They were looking at them in shock and disgust. "Um, you guys, we're kind of busy at the moment, so if you don't mind..." Hermione started. Sadly, their two weeks ended quickly. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley came by to pick them all up to take them to Hogwarts. Ron picked Hermione up and carried her piggy-back style out of the house. Piers and Dudley stopped them. "Hey, Granger." Piers snapped. Hermione looked down on him from Ron's back. Ron was about a had taller, if not more, than Piers. "What?" "Dudley told me what kind of school you freaks go to." He sneered. "You did what, you killer whale?" Harry snarled, advancing on Dudley. "I did him where you four rejects go. Big deal." "It is a big deal!" Ginny said. Mr. Weasley came up behind them. "Alright, you four go to the car, I'll put a memory charm on them." He murmured. "And, Hermione, why are you on my son's back?" Ron and Hermione turned red, and she jumped down. "Uh, sorry, Mr. Weasley." She stammered. Mr. Weasley grinned and turned back to Piers and Dudley. When they all go in the car, Mrs. Weasley turned around to greet them. "Hello, kids! It's great to see you!" she smiled. And then her eyes widened and an angry look crossed her face. "Ginny! What is that in your stomach??"
